In that preview the last page fight scene is pretty cool. For the first time, I don't hate Garth's new look.
I'm also happy with Mon-El's characterization, a pleasant surprise.

Actually, a 31st century Green Lantern series would get me to pick up issues I wouldn't normally buy. Whether part of an anthology book or as a stand alone series I'd pick it up. My usual pattern is to support a book for a year (unless it sucks the intelligence out of the reader like Supergirl or Waid's latest Flash) and re-evaluate whether I want to keep it buying it or not. So DC would get another $36 out of me in 2009 at least.

i don't want to buy a book called legion of three worlds and have it have pages dictated on bring back the GL corps...first of all its a thousand years from now, so it should be okay that the green lanterns aren't around things change over time..the fact the the GL corps aren't around helps sells the idea that there would be a need for the legion of superheroes, i dont want the legion to be the justice league of the 31st century. that is stupid. the legion is meant to be about something else.
rond was cool cause he was the last one. and was able to hide it from the legion, and for most of his appearance in the legion books was as a friend to the legion who saved them twice with his brain. and not an ally with the 'most powerful weapon in the universe'
also i could not care any less about the green lanterns. i am so tired of them getting shoved down my throat at every turn. not every one is a freaking fan of the gl's. i hated that at the end of 2 i need to go on f***ing Wikipedia to find out who the hell that guy was on the end the book.

I really don't think the answer to making the Legion a more robust presence is to dilute the concept by integrating it with every other element of the DCU available. This is a five issue miniseries that should focus on the titular "3 Legions". Instead, it's shaping up to be a showcase for Geoff Johns' pet projects: Superboy-Prime, the Green Lanterns, and the Flash. I'm sorry if I sound bitter, but between the shameful wrap-up of the Legion's series, the completely continuity-boggling appearance of Legion lore in Final Crisis, and the LO3W preview which just confirms wasted page real estate, it's been a mighty dismal couple of weeks for me to be a Legion fan.

Legion of 3 Worlds? Not really, not so far from what we have seen.
...but you don't have a moment where you're sitting there staring at a table full of twenty-five characters with little name signs that say, "Hi, my superpower is confusing you!"

I like it. I realized that when I said to myself, "man I wish there wasn't such a big preview."
Over at Newsarama, the comments are by and large positive, and seem to put the blame for the lateness at the feet of George Perez's health, although they are forgiving of this.
I like that Mon and Shady still have such rapport. That's why I want the "old team" to survive. They, for all the disco unies and such, were the most real. They refer to Brainy like a friend, not some annoying jerk, realizing that as usual, he's steps ahead of them. However, one of the few bones I have to pick is that there was an awful lot of dialogue for such small panels.
I think this may be setting Mon-el up to be a more integral part of the Legion. For all his powers, in the Pre-crisis era, he was usually, not always, but usually IMHO, nothing more than muscle. Perhaps he will be more assertive and more of a leader from now on.
I don't have a problem with this much GL. Perhaps this is because I am a GL fan. Now, while I agree that the Legion needs to be THE premier team in the 31st century, I can see the Corps coming in handy.
As for the fight scene, I think the "big brother" LL was referring to was Mekt, not himself. I don't particularly like the new Johnsboot personality either, but it's really not that different from Shooter's latest characterization, except that he's more angry, but frankly, the team could use all the fire it can muster in this situation.
As for Spider Girl, could be a Perez mistake. In issue 2, she was choking Colossal Boy. Maybe he threw Validus into the path to block her.
I thought Ayla's "remember the code" comment was very reminiscent of Smallville.
Anyone notice the covers say Dec '08?
I'm sorry folks, I'm jazzed. I just hate having to wait yet again for the next one.

I was no big fan of Rond Vidar but if we lost him and his awesome costume just to get the chronically dull Sodam Yat instead, I'm going to be annoyed.

Does anyone (Klordny?) actually know if George Perez is the biggest reason for the delay here or can we just blame DC brass?

Actually, the delays have been on John's shoulders not Perez - as reported here by Vee and by people who attended SDCC - the scripts have been slow to arrive.

I checked out the preview and it seems ok to me.
I too am a GL fan, but prefer that those stories remain self-contained within their own little "universe" if you will. Lanterns in the 31st century isn't a new idea ... the short lived comic book based on the TV series already beat LO3W to the punch with that one! This mini series is about the Legion. Three seperate incarnations of the Legion actually so there is tons of characters/history/back story/ unresolved plot-lines there that need due consideration if some sort of "closure" is done by the series' end. I really hope this Legion series isn't just a springboard for up coming plots in GL, Flash and Superman, that would be a huge waste of energy and a major downer for us fans. This story needs to stay about the Legionnaires and what happens to all of them after the dust settles.

Exactly. 1000 years in the future isn't much different from space in the present-day DC Universe. The Corps changes even less in that time; they've existed for how many billion years? There's little DC can do in the future that they can't do in the present. There's a reason we've never got another ongoing series in the Legion's time. (I have some unfinished ideas on how DC could make time differences matter more, but they would require Ultimizing the DC Universe.)

So far, the only Legion in this story is the Johnsboot Legion. With this preview, we are now about 45% through the miniseries and all the other two Legions have done is shown up on a splash page and have their Brainy's argue with one another. Given the solicits for the next several issues, I am not optimistic that the postboot and Threeboot will do much of anything, other than be cannon fodder.

The preview looks really nice, but I too don't care about the GL's in the 31st century, I don't want to see the "rebirth" of the corps, because it doesn't matter.
Besides, I thought the GL Corps did exist in the future, it was just the UP kicked GL out of their space AND the Guardians realized that Earth (and the other UP worlds) could take care of themselves.
When did this change?
I liked that idea, I mean, otherwise the GL Corps just becomes way to paternalistic and that's annoying. The UP can handle their own cosmic problem without the GLs popping up and the Legion certainly can.
The other thing that bums me about the preview is that those costumes are still, for the most part, really ugly. Yes Perez draws beautifully but I wish he could draw beautifully costumes that didn't make me throw up a little in my mouth.
I did like Mon and Shady in the preview, the way Mon talked to Yat, that was cool, Yat was boring and whiny, but Mon-El showed why he's so beloved by fans, he was just cool, confident, and had it all together. Mon-El is awesome.

I don't think the Perez art looks 'slick'. I think it looks like his work always does ~ wonderful.
I loved Rond Vidar and I'm sorry he was part of the DC fodder found in every Crisis story. digh I like the Corps, too, so I'm not unhappy their in this arc. I agree with veryvery, that using the rings is a great idea.
And I USED to like the Lar-Tasmia oneness, but now, after Umbra, I just find Shady's lack of involvement annoying.
I'm weary of someone with so much potential just standing around for the T&A effect. I want Umbra and her kick-bottomness!
Ya here that, Johns! I want a Tasmia that will give Lar a run for his money! And the DCU, while she's at it!

If you look below Spider Girl, Saturn Girl is looking her way in that old "Mind-Controlly" way of hers. That's what I assumed when I first saw the picture.

I just did a personality description of LL based on the way he's been acting in 3 Worlds. Some winging, but I think I could explain the anger. Maybe.

i think that with the (re)birth of the GLC in the future, johns just want the legion's setting to be more recognizable as the DCU, even if it's in the future. maybe DC thinks that that was one of the reasons the legion lost readers' interest, because of it's being so "far away" from the DCU, like it didn't matter to the rest of the line (personally i think it was due more to DC's awful editorial policy towards the legion since the birth of the direct market, but that's just my two cents). think about it. they put superman back into the team. they made the legion visit the batcave (in action comics) the GLC could be another "DCU touch" to add to the 31st century's background. anyway, i loved the preview (GL part included ) and i can't wait to read the actual book!

If they wanted the GLC in the future then it's already been established and was active until Johns' retcon.
So I see no point in wasting space in a comic entitled "LEGION OF THREE WORLDS" to re-establishing something that should have been left alone in the first place. There's just too many other far more interesting stuff to be done with three versions of Legions and it speaks volumes to me that this is more important than establishing the Legions before they go off and get slaughtered for DC's big event.

If they wanted the GLC in the future then it's already been established and was active until Johns' retcon. the levitz legion itself was already been established before johns' retcon, but he thought anyway of "disband" it and make the legionnaries come together again in action comics. why not, if it's an excuse for making a fun and pertinent story? what would have changed if DC had put out before a book where they showed you the 31st century's GLC disbanding? we know that a few years have passed, story-wise, since we last saw the levitz-johns-whatever-legion, so anything could have happened in the meantime. really, i'm sorry but i don't see the problem here. besides, did the GLC ever even appear in a pre-crisis legion comic? i just remember seeing rond vidar, post-crisis. but i could easily be wrong, my grandpa has a better memory than me

Rond was supposed to have died and we see Brainy(?) go to his grave and there he was, alive and revealed to be a GL. Brainy convinces him to join some hopeless cosmic fight. That moment was a very beautiful story moment and incredible image burned in my memory. Rond was always portrayed pre-boot as a rather mysterious person, usually alone and rather shadowed. A perfect hidden GL defender in a federation that didn't want them. I don't think I have those issues any more, so I can't look it up for you. Sorry.
