The thing is...I don't think DC is really going to cater to the existing Legion fans very much...and why should they? We've pretty much proven there is no amount of abuse we won't take as a fan base. Yeah they'd probably like to get something that silences our complaints, but we still buy...so what have they got to lose by messing with it?
They've messed with it often...still comes out abotu the same. Even if Legion fans reject it and they get a book read by Titan, Flash, GL and Superman fans instead...they still come out ahead on the deal. If it is fully embraced by any one of those groups, or parts of all of them...it will still probably sell better than the Legion does.
Booster Gold outsells the Legion, the Legion written by Jim Shooter...that is our comics reality.
I don't particularly like that botton line mindset..especially when I am getting the short end of it...but it is the reality of this situation.
The only way DC loses on this is if whatever they come up with sells worse than the Legion...I don't think there is a realistic chance of that happening.

I still think that L3W primary focus is to solve DCU's new continuity by using the Legion of Super-Heroes messed-up chronology as a scapegoat. Not only that, but we do have the Time Trapper as a Superman hater (a novelty) as a "thread" to his retconned persona post-Crisis. Why LSH book is not even remotely tied to L3W is flabbergasting - but "makes" some sense at the light of recent Johns' declarations that Legion is not the main ingredient on his palette. We must not forget that, while Morrison is working on the new large concept of DCU at Final Crisis, Johns is definitely working on its minutia - more specifically, on the new chronology (which is his real strength, as seen on GL and Flash). How Legion will be affected is to be determined, but that's how things are being held currently.

And how will both writers' plans of the DCU converge, or shall I say, diverge? All in all, do not expect Lo3W to bring closure to Supergirl's forgotten adventures with the Legion early on. Thanks to the Crisis, that's non-canon, and so are Lang, Ross, and the Super-Pets. So instead of Marvel and their Ultimate versions, Action Legion might as well be the reverse... a closely alternate version that is now designated as Earth-1's. Nice. Now me wants a Legion Year One for that. And free of Kal or old Kara. Isn't that called Reboot?

What looks like the Lightning Lad LO3W cover is on the the DC Comics main page: http://www.dccomics.com/dcu/ It has more "personality" than the previous two but I have to say I'm not too wild about any of them.

Which, yeah, is damning with faint praise, given how the other two kinda sucked, IMO... I wish the other two had made better use of the power-sets of the characters. One Cosmic Boy levitating up twin metal sculptures of the other two that he was assembling out of metal bands, for instance, would be neat. A pale translucent image of Saturn Girl hovering over a seated solidly colored Saturn Girl meditating, while a third even more translucent Saturn Girl oversaw both of them would be neat, suggesting that one Saturn Girl was telepathically watching over another, while a third Saturn Girl watched over the both of them from some astral plane.

Saturn Girl (uncolored) remains my favorite. Cosmic Boy looks like a monkey and Lightning Lad looks like a stand in wearing the Lightning Lad costume.

I agree with Awkward Pause Boy (is it David Brent?): The best ones were the first two ones. The Lightning Lad looks old Image Comics somehow.

I think Cos and SaturnGirl were a case of Perez experimenting with alternate faces. I'm not saying they are the peaks of George's career or anything...but it was cool to see him still trying to grow as an artist after he's been in the business for so long and is already a legend. Plus he's got so many characters to draw he may need some extra faces. On their own merits as covers I am not that impressed with the covers, however if George Perez did them I am impressed because they are way different than his usual covers.
What's also kind of cool about them is that they are so calm. Perez usually draw these incredibly busy action packed covers and when you think about all the characters that are going to be packed into these books underneath those covers, the stillness of those first two covers is kind of ironic. I think both of those covers belie the turmoil within them.

I always like good posters and poster-type covers, and your ideas are good.

Well, here's a Newsarama preview of Lo3W #1... http://www.newsarama.com/php/multimedia/album_view.php?gid=574 That's one and a half more pages than Wizard! So far, I'm cautiously positive on how well Prime would be as a primary villain, again.

Wasn't this Clark Kent from Smallville? Why would he automatically say "his."
I have to go back and read his first appearance.

Can we assume that the Earth xenophobia is a retcon? Nothing indicated that on pre-Crisis Legion.

Wasn't this Clark Kent from Smallville? Why would he automatically say "his." Because Prime's Earth was destroyed and this is the DCU Superman's Earth Can we assume that the Earth xenophobia is a retcon? Nothing indicated that on pre-Crisis Legion. It was kicked off by Earth Man in the period between Crisis and the Lightning Saga arc - triggered by the crystal tablet left by the Time Trapper in the 21st Century that claimed that Superman was Earth born

Can we say the period between this set-up and Crisis to be the Some-Years/Months-Gap?

The Home of Superman sign does mean that this Earth's Superman was Superboy though right? If the first five pages are any indication, this is going to be a real slog for me.

Right. But, the character has been bouncing around the Multiverse. Why assume this Smallville belongs to "his" i.e. the Superman we (the consumers of these books) read about currently. It could just as well be the Superman from Kingdome Come or some other Superman's Smallville. I find it out of character and that annoys me.

I find it out of character and that annoys me.[/b]Aren't we (the consumers of these books) supposed to be dead since 1985? Is the world of Threeboot an alternate version of Earth-Prime, or are those comics just exploits of centuries-old, 'real-life' heroes? Some things would never be addressed, but the solemn part is that the 5YL version is finally laid to rest... though a 10YL Legion (thanks to Gary Frank's age-undefying mastery of facial expressions) is a fair trade, anyways. Hopefully, Johns can pull some strings and the 5YL crowd shows up for a frame or two... maybe in one of the Time-Trapper's time spheres, as the current, existing Legionnaires look on with utmost horror. (I can only imagine how Jan/Vi/Troy would react to their could-have-been future/present/past...) Regarding Lo3W... all I can say is to 'Wake Me Up When September Ends', if you know what I mean.

I'll go you one better... I had the weird idea that the Legion's mission in FC:L3W could be to travel through time and dimension and continuity and save the 5YL Earth from being destroyed. Wouldn't that be awesome? Plus, it would acknowledge the only parts of 5YL continuity that anyone really likes (except maybe Tenzil's marriage to Saturn Queen).
