$45 if you register by April 16 (must be postmarked by then).
$50 if postmarked by June 5.
$60 if postmarked by June 18. Same if you pay at the door.
The prices include admission for all four days. And if you pre-register you get to attend Preview Night.

Preview Night, for the uninitiated, means that the Dealers' Room will be open the night before the con "officially" opens. Might not be much in the way of bargains, but some stalls will occasionally trot out limited edition merchandise.

Not sure if the Preview Night will be worth it for us or not. We might take the extra day to get our bearings for downtown.

Not a bad idea if you'll be driving back and forth every day.
I know there are shuttles that run from the convention center to various hotels, but I don't know if they go out to where you'll be.

I'm getting some info on the trolley which looks like it might just go to where we'll be staying. If so that will be a real cheap alternative.

Just booked our mini-van for the trip. Caroline and I decided that it would be wiser and a little cheaper to rent a car instead of taking our own. So I went with a mini-van to help chauffer people around. We've got a number of other on-line friends already committed that we'll spend some time with, some of them staying at the same hotel. And maybe a friend from Down Under (Hi Wayne!) will be able to make it was well.
So with the car booked, the hotel booked and the passes paid for, Caroline and I are pretty much committed. Anyone else still seriously thinking of going? If you are we need to plan at least one night where we all would go to dinner. Already have one planned with my other on-line family. I'd be real disappointed if I couldn't get together with this family too.

Oh, plus we'll be getting there on the 20th. And we'll be spending the night in Vegas on the 19th before driving the rest of the way in.
Trips to the Zoo and maybe the Wildlife Park are already being planned. A friend from Illinois that will be staying at the same hotel wants to see a beach and the ocean since he's never seen either. And if anyone is up to it I'm thinking maybe a day trip to Vegas.
We'll be in San Diego until Monday the 27th with the car due back on Tuesday. Should be plenty of time for fun.

Hopefully this will becaome a somewhat regular event.
I'd love to go as I haven't been west of New Mexico and I've always wanted to see the Pacific, but me and the Missus are flying to Florida at the end of May and then we are going to the Phillipines next February. Between that and going home to Indiana for the holidays we just don't have enough vacation time this year.

Prospects look good for me having my credit card paid off well before July, so it wouldn't hurt me too badly to charge some hotel rooms and a rental vehicle (I agree, Scott, a rental is probably the best way to go).
I wanna go to Cali, damn it!
Anybody wanna hitch a ride with?

Lash if its cheaper, you could fly into SLC and ride with Caroline and I the rest of the way. You'd have to be willing to stay overnight in Vegas though.

I almost died in line with my back problem trying to get out. And its been so long since I flew that I'd never had to take a subway or whatever you call it to get into the building where the terminals were at. I definitely prefer driving.

I like the feel of the open road, man!
Yes, I know all the statistics re: car crashes and whatever but I just feel safer knowing I'm behind the wheel rather than some pilot I never met!
I just gotta come to Cali! Italian Boy's gonna show me the sights in LA!

I'll be on the same coast, but the hubby and I are hitting all his family haunts the last two weeks of July (the only time we could both get that big a chunk of time off together), and a trip that far south won't fit in the itinerary. Sigh. I'm really looking forward to this trip since we'll be able to see our nephews (one of whom we've never seen in person) and the rest of his family (some of whom I've never met), but San Diego would have been a blast, too. Maybe next year.

I should be going down with my best friend. I think I'll be there July 23 - 25 (Friday - Sunday). Any word on what day y'all were planning on meeting up? I'm suppose to meet a friend from highschool one night but I should be able to meet up at least one of the days...

I want to go to this so bad, but there are a lot of things going against me: no money, and having to begin looking for a new full time job in the next month (can't really take a vacation a few weeks into a new job, and can't really aford it without a job), a very unreliable car, a youthful naviety that could get me in all kinds of shenanagans and no money (once more)! But I have these things going for me: Strong wanderlust and youthful enthusiasm! Although in all likely hood, I probably can't swing it, I'm going to try and figure it all out anyway, just to see if I can make it. My question, and please everyone give there input: how much money do you all think someone should have if there are considering driving across country from one end to the other? How much should I have to be safe, and how much could I have at the minimum to just swing it? I need to know! Just to screw around...do you think it's possible with say...$600-800 ? A trip to Cali, 44.something hours, many, many miles but lots and lots of fun! (Oh, and didn't Duke say he might be able to make it?)

Sorry Duke, I had the avatars turned off, and it never registered in my head that you were using the name "Obadiah Oldbuck" ! That's why I didn't realize you already replied to that.
