I still think we ought to plan some activities "on the way," if possible. Maybe at the "big stops" in Chicago (we could all go see Oprah together!) and Los Angeles (we could all go to Magic Mountain or Disneyland!)
It does sound like a really cool idea.

I'm surprised that in your world travels that you haven't stopped here yet, UltraMatthew. And it's great to hear so many of you (especially PB) want to come here next year. Although the Con would be enough to keep any of us occupied (even those who could care less about comics - last year I found and bought a Ganesha idol for my BF there), San Diego has a lot to offer. There's the "World-Famous" Zoo in Balboa Park which also has a number of attractions and museums. The Wild Animal Park (a drive through zoo) is just up the freeway. Coronado is a lot of fun to experience. We all have to go to the Cambrillo National Monument and a breathtaking view of the city. Check out the sunset at Sunset Cliffs. The Beaches, oh man, the beaches. Old Town. Sea World. Tijuana - everybody must experience it once. The Indian-gaming casinos for the gamblers. If you just want to stay downtown, there's the Gaslamp quarter District, full of great shops and restaurants. Horton Plaza a great outdoor, multi-level mall. Seaport Village. And the new Ballpark should be done or at least close to it by then. Lots to see and do. Here's some more info: http://www.entersandiego.com/ http://gocalifornia.about.com/bl_sdarticles.htm

I stayed at the Clarion Bay View this year, and from my room, I could have watched a game had the ballpark been completed. "Downtown" SD looks to be going through some development. It would not surprise me if hotel prices (for one) were a bit higher by next year.

We've already started my savings account. And actually won a two night stay at the new Anaheim Marriott Suites for anytime next year. I know its a drive but still its a free room. First time in the seven years I've worked with Marriott that I've gotten an absolutely free stay. Guess it does pay to finally be considered middle management.

Hey, I was just thinking about this thread last night! Sounds cool -- it would be great to meet up with folks "for real"...

This sounds like a reall great idea, I hope that there'd be a way for everyone to really meet up. So I take it that San Diego is the possible meeting place? This might be a stretch for a poor grad student to get out there, but a trip across country could be possible. I know that I could only ever make such a trip in the summer. So who is really serious about meeting up?! A huge Legion World conference where we could all party would be cool! Can't you just see me and Pov making our way across the country, slowly assembling a team of LMBers? Wacky Shenanagans in Memphis with Lash? A huge Chicago party with KP, Portfolio Boy and whoever can make it there? By the time we all got to San Diego, I'd be out of money !

You know if this is really a runner I might be able to swing it. If time and finances allow. I might need some help with beds and stuff to avoid hotel bills but I'm sure some one can offer help to a poor european

The cheapest package I found on Expedia was for around $600. The hotel is two stars (it's a HoJo's), and it's not right downtown, but hey, I fugure all we need is to be there, right?
This is seriously tempting.

This is seriously tempting. Actually, that's not a bad hotel. If I'm thinking of the right one. My parents stayed there once.
