I still say you should all (or at least most) come to next year's San Diego Comic-Con. It's going to be July 22-25, 2004. Anybody who wants more details can look here . I'd be more than happy to help anyone find hotels and show you guys around.

Besides, if we get on each other's nerves we have something else to fall back on. lol wink tongue

Caroline and I would totally be up to the San Diego Con. But it would be Feb of 2004 before we'd know if we could make it or not.

If this goes through, I'll definitely be there! Doesn't the comic con fall around the same time as S.D. Pride? Double the fun!

Even longer from Maine.

My vote is still for Metropolis, IL

San Diego from Maine.... eh. I am not a big fan of flying.

However, my wife and I have talked for several years about taking a cross country train trip to San Diego. She has zero interest in comics, so an interesting trip is about the only way to win her consent to my going at all.

Maybe something could be arranged schedule and intinerary wise for various Legion Worlders to hop on at stops along the way? We could then relax and socialize during the trip. (YAY! Legion World Party Train!) And this way, we could then all arrive together at Gary's place en' masse...

He is putting us all up, right?

A train trip would be cool! I haven't been on a passenger train since I was a kid.

Just for giggles I checked w/ Amtrak. Sheila & I (and maybe the Princess?) would take the Downeaster Express from Portland, Maine to Boston. Then, a train from Boston to San Diego 7/20-7/23, returning 7/26-7/28, would be $772 for two.

There would be stops in Chicago and Los Angeles. I *think* these stops are train changes. If there is interest, I can check further to see if there are other stops along they way where Legion Worlders can hop on.

For the hell of it see if they stop in Salt Lake City. I don't know if we have any Amtrak stops here anymore or not.

The California Zephyr runs from Chicago to California, and runs right through Salt Lake City.

LASH could meet us in Chicago with a train from Memphis.

Problem seems to be getting from the Zephyr to a train that serves San Deigo. I may need to reverse engineer the trip.

Is there any real interest out there? If so, I'll plot a course based on cities needed to be hit along the way.....

Well, I am here in Boston. And I wouldn't mind meeting up with people from here.

Not sure if I will have the cash for a trip though.

Ok so major stopping points are Boston-Mephis-Salt Lake-San Diego.

Any others?

We might need to consider a Southern route as well. I'm in Florida, and we have others in Georgia, Alabama, etc. It might make more sense for Lasher to go down south from Memphis and meet up with the southern contingent.

I'm in Detroit, but if Detroit isn't part of this route's itinterary, Chicago wouldn't be too bad. Or maybe Toledo? This sounds like fun.

Here is the best I can do so far. There does not seem to be any way to link Memphis and Salt Lake.

Maine takes The Downeaster to Boston's North Station and cabs it to the South Station.

Our pals in NYC take The Regional from there to Boston's South Station.

From there, anyone able to get to Boston takes The Lake Shore Limited to Chicago. This passes through Albany NY, Cleveland OH.

Our pals in Mephis can meet us in Chicago on The City of New Orleans

From Chicago The California Zephyr runs through Lincoln NE, Denver CO, Salt Lake City UT.

We would get off in Martinez CA and board The Coast Starlight to Los Angeles. From there The Pacific Surfliner takes us to San Diego.

The Crescent runs from New Orleans to NYC, passing through VA, NC, SC, GA, AL, & MS. Any of our southern friends can catch it to the NYC end and join us to Chicago, or to the New Orleans end and ride up to Chicago through Memhpis

Our pals in FL can get to New Orleans on [i]The Sunset Limted[i] and either take it direct to LA passing through TX, or they can get off in New Orleans and take [i]The City of New Orleans[i] up through Memphis to the major Chicago hub meeting point.
