No prob DB, that's why we're here smile

And yeah, they kinda do. We've had five here on LW (ten previously before LW), and the last few had some major problems, which is why we haven't had one since Sept. 30, 2004.

I'm really like the Alt route.

While I am moderating the convention and as such cannot actively debate, let me mention a few more issues we may ought to consider as we continue to draft the constitution.

The civil rights and freedoms of all sentient beings, including interspecies marriage

Our legal system (which thus far has been pretty much unleash the security office and then let the offenders rot in Takron-Galtos)

What rights we would like to give nonsentient beings

The LMB military

LMB holidays (I'm a big fan of MLLASH day, myself)

Possible rationing of ice cream, should the universe supply run out

The LMB oath of allegiance

A working system of checks and balances on all functions of government

Just some thoughts.

Well, the two people in charge (Leader and Deputy Leader) would see who were sending them the PM's for starters. This is directly the reason we canont use the polling system.

Then those two would have to consider if any were alts. I know I can help slightly, as I have a solid idea of who many of the alts are on LW.

Perhaps a third monitor, like Spellbinder/Crujectra could be there too to help. Cru is a founder on LW, a longtime respected member of the LMB (from day 1, which was six years ago), and has a wide knowledge of who the alts are. Plus, Cru has been leader twice before, and has expressed that there is no longer a desire there to run for leader again. Spellbinder might be a permanent third monitor for future elections, on the premise that she never runs again?

Any real questions on an alt may then fall to her (she has connections laugh ).

Just more thoughts.

Most altID's are well known, (despite what certain people think, Cobalt Kid is not an altID shared by four posters) and when in doubt, we do have a positive method of verifying altID's.

- Perhaps a specific alt ID, designed solely to run elections is created. It is called ‘Election Tyrant’ or something like that (tribute to old Loser Lad Alt ID on DCMBs). The password is given to the Leader and Deputy Leader. The votes are sent in and tabulated. The PMs are all then subsequently erased. The leader sends on the password to the new leader and new deputy leader. They then change the password so the old leader and deputy leader no longer have it.

What do you think? Might this help?
Sending this speech on as a memo to every delegation's desk in attendance. I urge all of you to think about this plan.

I would also like to mention that thus far, no delegate has brought up the possibility of a form of LMB government which has no election component. I'm not a fan of this one myself, considering the history Leader elections have in the LMB and heck, in the Legion of Super-Heroes itself... but it's something we might ought to think about as well.

Concerning statues, I think maybe we ought to have a "no graven image" clause in the Constitution. It's even biblical! laugh

If you're concerned about the idea of vote rigging with alt-ids and such. Couldn't you impose a "Residency Requirement" such as

1) freezing the voter list at a known date, some point before the campaign begins.
2) ensuring that voters comes from a list of known active posters.
3) require voter registration well in advance of a poll.

Considering Cobie's history, I figure it's better just to reserve one day a year to severely puncture his ego...

The statue part was retorical...

OK, here is the Abin Quank/Cobalt Kid/Princess Crujectra Plan in full:

On the Leader being honest – Perhaps that where the Deputy leader comes in? The Deputy leader could double-check and just ensure that there is no dishonesty going on. By making it an overt part of the process, there is no need for hard-feelings—“hey, that’s the Deputy Leader’s job, dude!”.

ProcessPerhaps a specific alt ID, designed solely to run elections is created.

Why no Polls and what about Alts Well, the two people in charge (Leader and Deputy Leader) would see who were sending them the PM's for starters. This is directly the reason we cannot use the polling system. Then those two would have to consider if any were alts. I know I can help slightly, as I have a solid idea of who many of the alts are on LW.

Third Permanent Monitor Perhaps a third monitor, like Spellbinder/Crujectra could be there too to help. Any real questions on an alt may then fall to her as we have a definitive way to find them if we must.

What if a PM is deleted from the Alt’s mailbox? Ah, here is the final part of the plan: A thread is created by the leader about the election. Whenever any LMB votes (re: sending a PM to the Alt), they post in the thread saying “Hey, I voted for leader”. This allows the Deputy Leader and Crujectra to know exactly who has voted. Thus, if by some chance in hell a PM was deleted from the Alt’s mailbox, the Deputy and Cru would know, b/c they’d have a list of who voted right in front of them.

Having voter registration is not a bad idea. It might solve certain issues.

Another question concerning altID's is; did Stoopid Cat's election as Deputy leader set a precident or do the unusual circumstances surrounding that election nullify the precidence?

Quiz HELP!!!

This is a great dialogue. As chair, I think I would like to go ahead and ask all delegations to please table all other matters of substance for today only as we hash out this LMB leader election thing.

This is only for matters of substance. Of course, points of personal privelege concerning ice cream, pushing other delegates into the pool, heavy petting, and such are always admissible in open forum.

You know what? I can’t believe it, but I’m fully satisfied with that plan. Just to give credit where it is due, Princess Crujectra helped create it.

I’d love to hear others thoughts and maybe even move forward sometime soon with it.

I agree KP—I really feel like something is being done.

The problem in the past has been that the line easily gets blurred between voting for characters and voting for the actual person.

No heavy petting today, can't you see Caliente's not here? Nothing against those who swing the other way but it's just not the same. frown

On the Voter's list, establishing the list well ahead of time is good.

It allows people who want to vote to opt in. (and other LW members who think you guys are freaks and weirdos to opt out.)
It also gives the candidates a known list of people to court and conversely lets them know who on LW not to bother.

You'd couple this with rules on what's allowable campaigning. Such as restricting electioneering to the board and not e-mail etc.

I'm intrigued by the voter registration idea. I think a list of "known active posters" would be problematic, though. And I see no reason to disenfranchise lurkers if they wanted to vote.

Hell if someone read my 1000+ posts, they'd put me in that category for sure.
