If it was Prof. de la Paz, then it was most likely written by Mike, delivered by Mannie, and somewhere nearby a lethal blonde named Wyoming Knott is keeping a watchful eye over the group.

I suggest we keep a close eye out for these people... they can be dangerous...

Yes cravings during pregnancy can be explained by an increased need for citric acid cycle intermediaries. This is due to the fact that some of these intermediaries must be sacrificed to a variety of anabolic functions in the expectant mother and .... faint

Ahem Caliente honey, could you explain the line of dialogue under discussion here? [/b]
Allow me to say this once because I know, without any doubt whatsoever that I am not NOW nor will I EVER BE (at least as far as the foreseeable future is concerned) pregnant.

And, Cobalt dear, I do NOT appreciate these insinuations. I was merely alluding to the fact that pepperment ice cream goes wonderfully with my green-skinned honey...

Okay, so I'll start the discussion.

Experience has shown that holding an election using the polling forum is an open invitation for cheating, and since the only people who could monitor polls to prevent cheating are unwilling to do so, it seems that this option is out. I think most people agree that completely public and open voting on a thread would be disastrous as well. So, it seems to me, the best way to hold an election is to have some specific individual (such as the current leader) or group of individuals whose job it is to collect and tally votes through PMs.

Would it be advisable to set up a known altID to act as a polling place? That way the individual selected as a fair and impartial judge wouldn't lose their ability to converse via PM for the duration of the election.

It would also allow vote PM's to be saved in case of the need for re-counts, etc...

At this stage in the game Eryk, I’m apt to agree with you. But I have some additional thoughts that alter it slightly—

- This creates the notion that we must trust the leader completely to be honest in his tallying. I’m not saying we can’t trust anyone in particular, just that we now have to have faith in the system. Is there anyway to strengthen it?

- Perhaps that where the Deputy leader comes in? The Deputy leader could double-check and just ensure that there is no dishonesty going on. By making it an overt part of the process, there is no need for hard-feelings—“hey, that’s the Deputy Leader’s job, dude!”.

- Perhaps a specific alt ID, designed solely to run elections is created. It is called ‘Election Tyrant’ or something like that (tribute to old Loser Lad Alt ID on DCMBs). The password is given to the Leader and Deputy Leader. The votes are sent in and tabulated. The PMs are all then subsequently erased. The leader sends on the password to the new leader and new deputy leader. They then change the password so the old leader and deputy leader no longer have it.

What do you think? Might this help?

Just to reaffirm Eryk’s thoughts:

- The Polling system in the Voting forum is flawed and has failed us twice. We know this from experience.

- The thought of an open vote, where everyone’s votes are public, is something that many think is a bad idea—it could cause hard feelings afterwards: this too, we know from experience. Personally, I’d love to see an open vote like this—but I sure as all hell don’t want the hard feelings afterwards.

Above all else, the leadership elections must be FUN—its why they exist in the first place. The very idea that someone’s fun could be ruined takes away the entire point of them.

an open vote might be interesting...since our characters are voting for other characters, not necessarily us voting for our clique.

campaign speach posts and rebuttals would be awesome...let the mud slinging begin!!

On the powers of the LMB Leader

First of all, let’s get it strait—he/she can’t have any that directly affect Legion World. Nightcrawler has specifically asked that Legion World be held separate from the LMB leadership election, and therefore the LMB leader.

What exactly does this mean? It means the leader doesn’t gain Moderator Powers—can’t lock threads, move threads, etc. The Moderators are already there and there for a reason. Thus, moderators are already in charge of watching over their forums, ensuring there are no obnoxious posters, encouraging new posters to join in, etc. The LMB leader does not need these jobs.

And let’s face it; the LMB is a group full of leaders. The leader is more symbolic than anything. What exactly should the powers be? Well, none really. Can’t order people around or kick people out or dish out punishment. All decisions like that will always be by the group. In storylines and such, sure they get those powers, but in real things, they don’t.

So, here’s what they might have:
1. Be completely in charge of the next election. That is the main task.
2. Be a place to turn to if people have concerns about anything. The moderators already have this too, but one more person never hurts.
3. Be a direct presence in ensuring that LMB antics do not ever disturb the rest of Legion World. This aspect might include the idea that LMB ‘storylines’ or ‘role-playing’ never get out of hand and bother someone in ‘real life’.
4. An active part in welcoming new members, explaining what the LMB is to people, and (possibly) promoting the LMB’s websites (Yahoo and Outpost).

Above all else, we must recognize right now that the LMB Leader really has no real power over any LMBer.

Thoughts?

DB, have you been here for an election?

Unfortunately, or maybe Very Fortunately, we're a bunch of geeks, lovable, wonderful geeks, but geeks none the less, we tend to get a mite toooooooo passionate about some things.

Campaining and mud-slinging ARE fun.

Open-voting Would Not Be fun
