Best (1): It's a tie --Long before I even had an inkling that I would one day become Lad Boy, I saw Tina Turner in Birmingham, Alabama. Best stadium show I've ever been to. It should have been a screaming clue about my future identity.

Best (2): Wolf Trap Farm Park in Vienna Virgina, Bonnie Raitt. Words cannot adequately describe "Dimming of the Day."

Worst: Lyle Lovett, George Washington University -- song after song after song, as if he were daring us to leave before he was finished.

PBM, At your 20-year High School Reunion what is(was) the most surprising thing about yourself to reveal(to have been revealed)?

Well, if nobody else will touch this, I'll take a stab.

Let's see, this is currently the 10th anniversary of when I started high school...

So offhand, I'd have to say the most surprising thing would be my explanation of how I discovered time travel (Rond, eat your heart out).

Now, should another 14 years go past, what I /hope/ will be the big shock will be one of the following:

1) How I managed to get Rachel Leigh Cook to marry me, and how I managed to convince her to wear the Triad outfit on our anniversary. *cough, moving on*

2) How I stopped the Secret War.

3) The operation was a success, and I'm no longer contagious.

4) I'm a registered clergyman. (Amazingly enough, that one's true)

5) "Why, yes, Karla, I can still bend that way. Want me to demonstrate?" (Long story.)

All right, person below me, step forward to face your question:

Which team has a better shot of ever winning a world series: Seattle Mariners, Chicago Cubs, New England Patriots?

In order of increasing probability.

(1) "Hell Freezes Over" the all new habanero frappucino becomes Starbucks' best seller
(2) Legion survives eight years without reboot.
(3) My wife tells my boyfriend to save his rent money and move in with us.
(4) Mariners sail to World Series victory in 4 straight.

Rachel Leigh Co-...no.

Plush cabbit, the teddy bear my grandmother made for my father when he was little, pillows, blankets, sheets, a few scattered comics, and...hey, the missing remote!

...and...some other things.

You mean other than MY COMPUTER, right? wink

Let's see, I've got a police scanner (so I can hear them coming for me!), my Wacom pen, stapler, tape dispenser, a mess of little knick-nacks including a puck autographed by Buffalo Sabres star and Hockey Hall of Famer Gilbert Perreault, an Ozzy Ozbourne bobblehead, a mini Director's slate (the little thing they clap together at the start of a scene to synch up the film and sound reels), one of those little dancing hamsters that sings "Kung-Fu Fighting" when you squeeze it's paw and a mini Buffalo Bills helmet. I also have a stack of CDs, an ashtray, a couple of computer books that I've never read, my digital camera, a can of Pledge furniture polish for electronics, a couple of credit cards that I haven't called to activate yet , the warranty information for my broken printer-fax-scanner which I haven't bothered to call on yet, and a whole bunch of other crap that's mostly just taking up space.

PBM, wouldn't it have been easier for me to just take a picture? laugh

No. Your digital camera, you will eventually discover, is in a state of disrepair -- remember that night you couldn't find the bedside ashtray?

PBM, George Bush was re-elected; John Hinkley (Reagan's would-be assassin) is seeking extended free time away from the happy ward at St. Elizabeth's; Laura Bush is today re-opening Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the White House to pedestrians; Tom Ridge is likely to leave DHS soon, am I being paranoid or are there dots to connect?

Wouldn't be necessary. My wife, literally a rocket scientist, is making plans to send me in space without all those pesky little safety checks that NASA is so anal about. She's a great woman.

PBM, if I were in space right now, would you come visit me?

I assume you mean limelight?

Christopher Walken, of course. He's what I picture God to look like. And hopefully behave as.

I hope not, but yes, my cousin doesn't and I don't like her so there.

BTW, Yes, I meant limelight, but I never use it because it makes no since, linelight does, but I'm not going to get into that.

PBM, Ever Jenga?

Like Magenga. ...I guess those Dr. Scholl's commercials don't translate well.

And actually, limelight stems from the days when lime (not the fruit) was heated to produce light for stage productions (as well as...well, a lot of other things, really). The light emitted from the heated light was called, obviously, 'limelight', and its use with the stage is how the phrase 'step into the limelight' originated.

PBM, does anybody even care about that above paragraph?

"Dying is easy. Comedy is hard." - Attributed to many sayers.

"Tragedy is when I cut my finger. Comedy is when you walk into an open sewer and die."
- Mel Brooks

A true satire movie is one that is always appreciated by movie audiences. At least, they used to be. Movies and programs such as "Airplane!", "Robin Hood: Men In Tights", "Get Smart", they all had one thing in common. They got the joke, and worked with it.

Many satire films manage to comment on society as well as mock it. Most men would never put on stockings. But how many people know the lyrics to 'We're Men! (Manly men!) We're men in tiiiiiights!'?

Today, most 'satire' movies just pull the same jokes over and over again. 'Scary Movie' might have been funny, but one can only see so many jokes about homophobia and drugs before it wears off.

"This is Spinal Tap."
"Austin Powers."
"Dr. Strangelove."

All movies that took a chunk of society, held it up to the light, pointed out the cracks, and then glorified them to make sure you noticed them. A true satire work isn't just raunchy jokes, tired gags, and non sequitors. Some people still have it (Mel Brooks). Some people don't (the Wayans brothers).

And when you find 'it', you have to celebrate it. Because it is truly hard to make something that critiques society so well, but makes everybody leave with a smile before they start to think about it.

*ahem*

PBM, why can't I ever get a smooth break when I pull apart chopsticks?
