I just got back from the Doctor's Office.
It's Cancer, Basil Cell Carcinoma.
She says I only have 40 -50 years left to live unless I get hit by a car or struck by lightning trying to revive a fallen comrade.
[BCC (Basil Cell Carcinoma) is the most common form of skin cancer. It's easily treatable, usually by surgical removal, and doesn't spread throughout the body like other forms of cancer.]

Good news but a bit of a scare I'm imagining.
How did you recognize it?

Well, things could be a lot worse. I'm glad to hear it wasn't something more threatening. I get pretty lazy with the sunblock myself.
BTW, how long have you been a Protean?

Phew, I'm glad it wasn't more serious. The first two lines of your post made my stomach knot up.

I hope treatment goes well, Chuck... glad it wasn't a worse form of cancer.

I, too, was floored by your first two lines.
Then your third line made me think you were only joking.
You didn't say if you were going to have the surgical procedure done, or if it was going to be treated some other way. In any case, I hope the treatment goes well.
Thanks for sharing your story and your timely warning about sunblock, Chuck.

Chuck, I ought to come over and give you a good whippin' for scarin' us like that!
I'm just glad it seems to have been caught in time and is treatable. Just take better care in the sun. I've found out, dealing with Caroline's parents, that we need to pay more attention than they did when it comes to spending time in the sun. Seems, for a long while, they were always having to have BCC treated on their arms or face.

Okay, I apologize, I should have phrased the post better.
I'm going to have the BCC Removed as soon as I can get the appointment scheduled. That should happen within the next week or two.
Then it's just a couple of checkups and an annual screening.

My aunt had to have a similar procedure done a few years ago. She was always going to tanning booths and such, and she ended up having to have like 5 or 6 places treated.
Lesson learned, she now prefers to be a little more pale and a lot more healthy.
Luckily for me, I have very fair complexion, so over the years I've been forced to either stay out of the sun or block as much as possible. Tanning has never been an option, because I go from burn directly to pale.
It's a scary thing, though, because treatable cancer is still cancer, and nobody wants that diagnosis.

Glad you caught this early Chuck. While BASAL cell carcinoma is a form aof cancer, it is one of the most treatable and you should be just fine (as your doctor said) though you will need to be watchful from here on out. ;hug:

Basil or Basal? That is the question.
The answer is that I don't want either, and I certainly don't want surgery just a half inch away from my right eye but...
Thanks for all the support and kind words, guys and gals, it really means a lot to me.

Hey, does that mean you get to wear a pirate patch over the eye and run around SDCC 2008 shouting “Argh” and Shiver me timbers” and abducting pretty young damsels for ransom and stuff?

No, but it should make him look far more dastardly when he borrows preview copies

I think basil cell carcinoma causes you to slowly morph into a tall, neurotic British hotel owner with a penchant for physical, slapstick humor. Definitely a grim diagnosis.
...but you don't have a moment where you're sitting there staring at a table full of twenty-five characters with little name signs that say, "Hi, my superpower is confusing you!"
