Hello all

I am new to this board and to the Legion universe. With my recent dissatisfaction with the Titans & X-Men, I decided to drop "Exiles". Whenever I drop a book, I always try something new to replace. In some cases it can be great, I dropped a book and picked up "Iron Fist". It turned out to be a terrific book. Other times it can be a disappointment when last month I tried the "Mighty Avengers".

Anyway I picked up #37 and also the first 2 trades of the Kitson/Waid trades. I fell in love with Dream Girl.

I was wondering if anyone could recommend some good Dream Girl issues Pre-Infinite Crisis.

I second LSH 288 (1982), "The Legionnaire's Made For Burning!" Ignore the tortured title, enjoy some classic Nura.

I think you mean # 350-351, the two-part "Devil's Dozen" story; Nura isn't in # 349 (Universo's first appearance).

I liked Nura's role in ADVENTURE # 342, even though it's relatively minor. She supports Thom throughout his trial.

I saw a great cover with Dream Girl on the cover which was drawn by George Perez. He drew a pretty good Dream Girl.

Did he do a draw on Legion that involved her?

Perez did a bunch of covers, especially in the early 80s, but I don't recall him doing a regular issue. He also in the early 80s did a set of character designs that appeared in a digest (new material to balance out content that was mostly reprints), some of which were later used.

She would have made at least a brief cameo in the 2004 SF; not very in depth. That one was done as a sort of tour of Legion HQ, with only brief bios of each character.

I do not beleive she was in the other one; if so it was probably as a brief mention, as she was not a member at that time.

I just picked this up tonight. Wow great story! I love telepaths too so it was great to see Saturn Girl and Universo involved in the story. Dreamer looked great too! Thanks Mystery Lad for the great tip to pick up that story!

At the end of the story, Dreamer gets to be a Legion member. Does she become a regular in the book?

Anyone know where I can find a listing of every Nura appearance?

Did she appear in any of the Legion books where Alan Davis was drawing the covers?

Aside from covers George Perez hasn't had too much of her to draw. He did draw Nura (the current version) in a recent issue of Brave and the Bold also written in by Waid. She also appeared in a few panels of Crisis on Infinite Earths.

I really like her first appearance from Adventure in 1964 that Rhino posted. If you can't see it its probably due to firewall software or maybe ad-blocking software on your browser. My browser blocks any file with a name containing 'ad' from appearing. Try this.

Here's a panel from Thom's trial in 1966. I believe that this issue was the last issue of the Tales of the Legion in Adventure Comics not written by Jim Shooter who was 14 or 15 at the time. That would make him 57 or 58? I have to say that Curt Swan probably drew the prettiest Nura ever.




The Adventure issues with Nura are probably hard to find and expensive, or available only in expensive archives. However I think that this issue in particular has been reprinted several times due to its importance in establishing the original Legion's rules on killing.

Also if you can live with the black and white Showcase Presents: Legion of Superheroes has these appearances. Her first appearance is in Volume 1 and the Trial of Star Boy in Volume 2 coming this spring. Unfortunately the Devil's Dozen story will not be collected until Volume 3 not yet scheduled.

Greg Larocque drew the sexiest, most seductive Dream Girl ever.

Then you're just going to love the 'Universo Project'. Lots of Dream Girl, and an astonishing Saturn Girl. And yes, the villain is Universo. The story is quite self-contained, too, it makes for a great reading on its own. LSH Baxter series, # 32-ish (can't remember exactly).

The story that sold me on Dream Girl is the little backup story where she returns to Naltor and solves the problem with the earthquake regulator messing with the Naltorians' precognitive powers. Early Levitz era.

Has Dreamer (I actually like that name better than Dream Girl) ever shown dream powers like she seems to be showing in the current run?

Was Shooter the one who created her?

I have to say I actually find Kitson's Nura the sexiest. She looks confident and I love the new costume...especially the new bracers. I am also glad they got rid of the star on her face. I would love to get Kitson to do a sketch of her for me. He always drew a gorgeous Lilith too.

I will see Waid next month at the Orlando Con and see what plans he had for Nura in the long run...if he planned on her coming fully back.

Some other random answers:

Credit for creating Dream Girl goes to writer Edmond Hamilton and artist John Forte, the creative team of ADV. 317 (though Curt Swan and George Klein drew the cover).

ADV. 342 was reprinted in SUPERBOY # 202, June 1974. It might be a bit cheeper than the archives, if you can find it.

Dream Girl does indeed appear in the LSV War (Baxter series # 1-5), though her role is hardly memorable. After flipping through those issues just now, what stands out to me is Nura kicking Orion in the midsection and then being threatened by Silver Slasher.

I just picked that issue up!
