1. Has had enough of drunk sentients coming up to him in bars asking "Do you think you can take me? Huh?"
2. Never ever ever wants to hear about that schmoe Nemesis Kid again.

So how did Duplicate Boy's power work anyway? Could he really only duplicate Legionnaires? If so, did that only refer to current members? Does he need to be exposed to them somehow to dupe them or would he be able to dupe a new Legionnaire who just joined?

IIRC, in his first appearance he is shown duplicating the powers of the other Lallorians, so it was not just Legionnaires. Any power could be duplicated. The expose, or better yet close proximity, rule would have made the character mor einteresting, and usable, IMHO. But no, essentially, Dupie could do anything he could think of. I think I recall a few stories were he was predicted as not terribly imaginative though.

Dupe Boy's powers were of the "once he's seen it, he can copy it" variety (kind of like the Composite Man, but without the apparent time limitation). The only real limits was that he couln't copy anyone too powerful. Validus, for instance, was beyond his upper limit.
I agree he would have worked better if he'd had to rely upon proximity to those whose powers he duplicated. Kind of like the (one-shot, unless I'm mistaken) JLA villain Paragon, who could adapt the powers and skills of anybody within a certain radius.

For Dupe, it's not how he uses it, it's which one to use...

Wait, no... it's not ONLY *how* he uses it, but *which one* to use.... yeah, better...

6. Even less-than-half-baked jokes about his missing third Carggite body.
7. Questions like "When are you going to be your own man and stop being such a copy-cat?"
8. Questions like "So, how's it going with Salu?"

People who assume that Triplicate Girl can take him. Of course, she can, but its not that obvious.

So if Duplicate Boy fought Nemesis Kid, who would win? I've wondered about this on occasion, but I usually have to stop thinking about it before it drives me crazy.

It depends.
I think most people find this puzzling because they assume that Duplicate Boy would duplicate Nemesis Kid's powers. My theory is that he's not actually capable of duplicating NK's powers (in the same way that he can't duplicate Validus's). So it would basically come down to whether or not he's smart enough to duplicate Carggite abilities. Otherwise, NK can respond to any power he duplicates with something to trump it.
Now, if you *did* have two people with NK's powers who fought one another, my theory is that this would have unpredictable effects, somewhat like when NK fights multiple opponents and his power either shuts down completely or teleports him away.

Or Duplicate Boy's duplicate nemesising up would truly equalize them. Superpowers would be nullified. In which case, the smartest guy would find a way to win.
Wonder who that would be?
What would be fun would be watching Duplicate Boy try out one power after another, then seeing what form Nemesis Kid's power would take to defeat Dupes.
*That's* the sequence I'd want to see.

that would be pretty interesting actually.
Not to totally go off topic here, but Im a new member and just recently started getting information on the Legion. Duplicate Boy was the first one who really caught my attention. However since I dont have any of the comics whats so ever I really dont know much about the characters exept through bios and such (and those are extremely limited) Is there anyone who has some scans of him using his powers (Im also using him in comic tournament so the scans would also help me with that) that would care to share and pm them to me? I would really appreciate it.
sorry to go off topic........
