So I was thinking about the incidental similarities between the Legion and the 108 Stars of Destiny, the outlaw heroes of the Chinese novel Shui Hu Zhuan. (Which the Suikoden video games were based on.) And I thought that 108 seemed like a good number of Legionnaires. So I came up with the following list of 108 Legionnaires. To get to 108, I used a number of super-pets, Academy members, 21st-century teen heroes, children of Legionnaires, and a few Marvel characters who could plausibly be integrated into the DC universe.

What do you think of these choices? Would you enjoy reading a hypothetical Legion series that featured this list of characters?

I like the list a lot! In my mind, you can't have too many Legionnaires - this is a true Legion of the Legion.

Did Quantum Queen and Reflecto make the 108?

I left them off because I honestly have no idea who they are. I also left off a bunch of other Five-Year Gap characters, as well as Magno, who is basically redundant.

I'd like to see Konk as a Legionnaire.

This is an interesting concept. I'd like to see a Suikoden entry based on the Legion, since I'm a BIG Suikoden fan. Although I'm curious as to how the 108 were matched up.

In the Suikoden series, each "Star" corresponds to a certain "theme". That is...

Star #1 is usually the army leader.
Star #3 is the main strategist. #37 is the secondary strategist.
Star #108 is the thief.
Stars #44 and 45 have always been a pair of pretty boys.
Star #40 has always been the mysterious, alluring and powerful rune mistress.

Love Suikoden, Jeane always reminded me of Nura.

My thoughts exactly, LWL! Down to the white hair. I at first thought Mysa would make more sense, given her magical prowess, but personality-wise, Jeane = Nura for sure.

PS - Jeane becoming playable in Suikoden 4 really saved that game for me. She never left my party. Ditto for Suikoden 5!

Honestly, I've never actually finished a Suikoden game. I rented the original Suikoden many years ago, but had to return it, and when I was able to play it again more recently, I was shocked at the awful quality of the translation. I also started playing Suikoden III but gave up because of the amount of grinding involved.

I like the idea, though.

Oh, that's interesting. I just found a site that lists the roles traditionally associated with the stars, so I'll see if I can make a new version of the list that takes that into account.

Heh, you should've seen Suikoden II - decent translation with some glaring exceptions (but still IMO a wonderful game). Perhaps Suikoden V would have been better for you. Less grinding needed.
