Has it been established post-crisis that the rings of Saturn cancels out evil impulses? If so, it would be a simple matter for the UP to implement the material into the Saturn symbols telepaths are required to wear. What were Naltor's demands? Noted that Imsk still has a representative in the UP government--does Brainy control the entire planet or a colony? Speaking of the UP how many Legionnaire parents are diplomats? A rough guess would be Saturn Girl, Cham, Phantom Girl and perhaps Atom Girl.

This was without a doubt my favorite issue since #15. The lack of Superbrittney all by itself would've redeemed it.
Thankfully, there was a lot more to it than that. Sure, the Titanese lady was new, but it left a little bit (not much, granted, but a little bit) of doubt as to which side she was on. If her name nad been Eve Aries, Meta Ulnoor, or Delya Castil it would've practically screamed "Hey older fans!!! Keep an eye on me!!! I'm important!!!"
I think we need more issues like this, especially now that the book's been around long enough for the team to be established. More stories like this, the Triplicate Girl highlight in #3, or the Garth/Imra short back around #11 or 12 (I don't have it with me right now) concentration on one, or at least small groups, of characters.

Haven't gotten my issue yet but it looks like the reviewer over at Silver Bullet Comicbooks didn't much care for the issue. And for the same reasons that most of us seemed to enjoy it.

Next to #3, this issue stands out as one of the best of the Waid/Kitson run so far IMHO. More solo adventures!

Have I mentioned that I loved this issue too, yet? No? Well, I did.
I can't wait to have enough time to make the new smilies and to update the profile pages.
Thanks Mark, Barry, etc. for another great issue that was a blast to read.

I enjoyed this issue as well. Thanks for the treat, Mark and Barry.
It seems that the art of telling a good 1-issue story is often lost in the comic world these days.

There's never a chunk of rock from Saturn's rings around when you need it, is there? Maybe Cham should check his junk drawer...
Yawn. I've never cared for spotlight stories. The large, diverse cast and the teamwork are what I read the Legion for. If I wanted to read about a single character, I'd probably read Spiderman or Daredevil.
I'd much rather have had the Dream Girl resurrection plot moved along and/or resolved.
Great to have Barry back on the artwork though. He space-rocks, as always.

Great art! Bored plot! A Chameleon story simple and without emotion. Is more important to know who is Dream Boy....

I TOTALLY agree with you Jim! Spotlight issues are especially deadly if they revolve around a Legionnaire you're not fond of (although I like Cham). Barry's magnificent art is wasted on a spotlight issue...this is when you need to use a fill-in artist...when the entire cast is not present.

I'm anxious about Nura too, but timing aside, I loved the issue. Cham's character seems to incorporate the best parts of the preboot version--he wants to be suave and breezy and sociable, but prejudice and culture-clashes make it an uphill road. The contrast between cool noir monologue and alien exterior is a very interesting one.
And "Brainiac Five's Handbook of Procedures For Useless Prisoners" alone was worth the cover price.

One of the best issues of the run so far, IMO.
Hopefully, we'll get more 1 and 2 issue tales in the future.

One thing I've noticed in the last two issues - and this one especially - is how restrained the Science Police have been. They have to deal with these uppity teenagers (thinking of loudmouth Rokk in particular) who have been given equal authority to them - unbelievable! - and they don't lose their cool. In this issue, they listen to Chameleon, let him prove his story and then let him go with no more than a "get lost and don't come back".
One of the creators (Kitson or Waid) said early on that it might not be too clear who the real good guys were, something to that effect. Thus I'm wondering if maybe the United Planets delegates are the bad guys - or at least very manipulative ones. It certainly appears that they're moving in to control the Legion, appointing Dream Boy, giving the teens all those policing powers (which they no doubt knew would cause friction with the cops); perhaps they even meant to divide the core group from the supporter-legionnaires. Who knows what other fine print was buried in what Lightning Lad signed? Perhaps Saturn Mom even used a little mind control to get him to sign - she may be better at it than her daughter, since she's older.
(We really need a good, simple name for the non-core group who are legionnaires but aren't.)

So where are all the posts concerning issue 19? Everyone seems to be more eager to talk about other titles than the Legion. Am I missing something?

Okay, this has been bothering me for a while, and with this spotlight issue, I just need an answer:
Cham can replicate the biology of other species, right? He can grow the gills of marine life, the hollow bones and wings of a flying creature, etc. If he can change his species, why can he not replicate the yellow sun radiation cells of Kryptonians? It really bugs me.

I have no special knowledge on this, but maybe the Kryptonians' invulnerability includes an immunity to Cham's scanning of lifeforms, which he needs to do in order to mimic them?

Also, how the heck did he replicate lightning when he imitated Lightning Lad?

Cham's capacity to duplicate the abilities of the forms he imitates has varied somewhat over the years, so it's probably difficult to come up with an explanation which would explain all of the various cases.
The way I tend to think about it is that he can duplicate abilities that derive from large-scale strutural features of the organism, such as the bone structure of birds allowing him to fly, but can't duplicate abilities that primarily rely upon micro-structure, such as the cellular structure of Kryptonians.

I have a question about Chameleon and his race. In the original series it was shown that the shape and color that Chameleon presents to the world is not their true shape. I believe their true shape involved tentacles? So...is the orange humanoid shape real or just a mask the Durlans use to hide their true shape? Also...how do they procreate? Do they have two genders, three, or just one? Any chances of bringing back Yera? Are the Proteans from Antares II related to the Durlans? Any chance of getting rid of the beady eyes that Cham is currently sporting?

The Proteans, at least traditionally, aren't related to the Durlans. The Proteans were favorite pets of the ancient Llorn civilization that lived on Antares II for awhile, before it began to go through a series of catastrophic environmental changes. Before leaving, they embued their pets with the ability to alter their form (which allowed them to survive the climactic changes), which also resulted in them evolving sentience.

This one I do know Cham only duplicated the appearance of the lightning sparks - presumably based on some lifeform he'd encountered that looked something like it. His mimicry isn't always totally accurate - hence the giant Brainiac head in the same scene.
