OM! You must see this! Allow relief to set in! smile

Q: Any plans for Captain Comet OYL?

DD: Not only are there plans for Captain Comet OYL, but he also plays an important role in 52.

Here at Newsarama (not much else than above)

I'd KILL for a Captain Comet/Adam Strange/Space sci-fi title! I hope both get some good treatment!

I saw that too (posted that in the Legion forum). I didn't realize it, but the two could be connected (I was hoping for a Superman when he was Boy guest-featuring the Legion series there).

I want Captain Comet, Adam Strange, etc., and I know many other LWers have a love of LEGION and the Omega Men.

Good science-fiction comics are hard to find these days, and I love the old DC Silver
Age (and pre-Silver, depending on your view of the Captain) space-heroes.

I love space stories too.

OYL Titans revealed that one of their characters is still in space. Seems there's lots of stuff to be explored out there.

I expect that they'll add a non-green lantern space project at some point just to build on some of the stuff from RT War and Infinite Crisis.

See it?

Dude, I asked the question.

As long as the "important role" isn't a Ted Kord-like important role, I'll be OK.

I can't really add much to what's already been said, except that I, too, want to see more space opera from DC.

Read LEGIONS OF 7 WORLDS in the Bits forum:

I'm thinking we'll see him in 52 #5 - the "something weird in space" issue with the cover they're keeping secret.

Ugh. A bunch of unnecessary changes (including his name - why not find a reason to keep it rather than drop the Captain if it's that important to have it have a meaning *sheesh*) and yet another character death.

It's probably a great character too. In fact, I bet it's going to be Prince Gavyn, Starman. Cause DC thinks we're too stupid to comprehend that there might be more than one character with the same name. And just to bring "life" back into a character no one was asking to come back. shake

Well, I'm not much of a Captain Comet fan but the fact that Starlin is writing and drawing the backups is more than enough to make me pick up the mini.

I have been wanting one lightly {read, not as much as a firestorm book, but still wanting it none the less) for years. I always thought there was a tremendous amount of potential there, and his costume really reminded me of a legion costume.

A couple of things:

- I'm not that impressed with the new look. The new costume looks more like a variation of the Darkstars uniform. Also, Ivan Reis did a fine job of updating the '70s outfit in R/T War.

- I also liked that Reis had him looking more his age. It's a pity that, with all the talk about DC's new diversity, that we're not seeing heroes that are older.

- The image of the new-look Comet standing over the corpse of the old-look Comet makes me nervous.

- For the second name in the character's history, he gets an appearance because Adam Strange wasn't available. The first time was with L.E.G.I.O.N.

- Per Jim Starlin: "Since there was a lot of Captain Comet in 52, I used him as a substitute." Interesting.

- So the bad guys front for an interstellar church, eh? How many times can Starlin go to this well?

- I'm in for this. Probably. But this shouldn't surprise any of you.

I'm definately in. That being said I both have (1) high hopes and (2) strong reservations about some things. The name change & 'new' Captain Comet (given the vagueness of that statement) seem stupid, but overall, I'm excited to see the Captain in a starring role. I love the character like OM does, and hope has good screen time in 52 too.

And jeepers, I haven't read 'the Weird' since I was like 11 years old. I can't remember a thing about it other than I didn't really like it then.

Yeah, I thought I had read somewhere else that this was an all-new "Captain" Comet? That would obviously contradict the Newsarama article that focused on Blake as Comet for "all these years..." and him being an older hero now (like with his greying hair in the Rann-Thanagar War.

What really matters to me is, are we going to see some L.E.G.I.O.N.naires during this series. Doesn't sound like it, since it focuses on Wierd and Comet.

The report from Wizard World Philly made mention of a "new" Captain Comet.

Starlin's interview suggests it's just an update being made to the original character.

I fear OM is so right -- how many times can Starlin tell the same story? Why should we buy it again. Cobie, I thought I was the only one that had forgotten The Weird. Wasn't there some really pointless, overly long story with the JLA? It would have been so much better to have some new blood on this.

...but you don't have a moment where you're sitting there staring at a table full of twenty-five characters with little name signs that say, "Hi, my superpower is confusing you!"

See, the Davis article also says "new" Captain Comet.

Not a good sign for the old one...

And I never read "Hardcore Station", but from Shane's artwork, "Eye" sure looks like an Emerald Empress with the Emerald Eye.

In the end, all I can say is, thank God they're finally bringing back "The Weird"! lol

(sorry, I know the sarcasm meter just overloaded...)

Crap. Now my A-Rness kicks in, and I have to buy the Omega Men series due to L.E.G.I.O.N...

Oh well, it could be worse, at least it is a mini. Good to see Doc survived after all, I felt bad for him in the Adam Strange story. frown

Newsarama now has previews for a number of comics, including Mystery in Space #1.

Interesting giveaway in the preview pages, I will say.

(Note for those of you who read the discussion: The "OM" referenced in that thread is *not* me.)

Looks good. Interesting that they give that away in a preview. I'll probably still pick it up, at least for Starlin.

Mystery in Space #1

Click Here For A SpoilerThe starting point for both stories occurs as Captain Comet is killed by an unseen ambush or disaster. His enormous will to live and his telepathic power somehow call out to the Weird's essence and they merge for a moment before separating again. This causes both Comet and the Weird to come back to life.

Back on the Hardcore Station, Comet's talking dog Tyrone and his colleague (romantic interest?) Eye catch some thugs breaking in to Comet's place. With Comet dead, Tyrone gives the highlights of Comet's career. He mentions his origin in the 50s, the SSoSV era and the recent freelance work with L.E.G.I.O.N. in R/T war. He does not mention the lengthy membership in L.dot but he does not contradict it either.

Story ends as the dog finds the new Comet knocked out in his study. In the back-up the Weird reappears and finds himself on an Eternal Light Corp. World.

The art has a nice science fiction look to it. Davis went out of his way to populate the station with non-humanoid aliens. My one complaint is that I had a hard time figuring out the chronological order of the events in the story because of the way the scenes were strung together.
