I like the ADVENTURE cover- though they should've got Jo's hair color right... maybe there's still time to correct that.
The LEGION cover's good, too. Rokk's pose somehow made me think of Spider-man. I know it's not what he's doing here, but have we ever see him use magnetism to cling to/climb up metal buildings or towers?
I think that'd be a nice use of his power.
Timber Wolf looks good- except for his orange booties. They make me laugh. Not in character for Brin. I think Ayla's been sewing while hitting pluberry wine.

Tyroc's new costume has REALLY got to go! It's poorly designed and hurts my eyes at the same time.

Agreed on Tyroc's costume, though I kind of like Brin's orange chunky soles.
WTF is up with the twist on Brainy's boots though? I noticed it in one of the issues a while ago and had to go look through back issues to see if it was something new or not....I have been meaning to bring it up for ages but keep forgetting - it looks like someone has grabbed his feet and just twisted them round and round like they were wringing out a towel or something!
Does anyone else get this or am I just space-crazy???

I did not notice that until you pointed it out, but perhaps we'll learn that Coluans have corkscrews for feet, and he has to screw his boots on in the morning. I don't think we've ever seen his feet, so it wouldn't even be a retcon. Does anyone else get this or am I just space-crazy??? The one does not preclude the other.

Brin's costume looks like a nice Lightle-era callback which was my favorite look for the character. I wouldn't mind, however, if Cinar had decided to keep Manapul's idea to have him be barefooted instead of giving him the odd-looking boots. I think the bare feet suits the character, even if this version is more human than subsequent 'boots. (It's good to see the human version back, btw.)
Still "Lardy" to my friends!

I remain one of those heretics who actually likes Tyroc's look. The old one was already anachronistic about a year after it was designed, and it wouldn't fit in with the current team designs at all.
I wouldn't have minded if they'd compromised and used something like the later version of Tyroc from the Legion cartoon, though. They could have kept the basic iconography of the original and just updated/streamlined it a bit...
Hey, Kids! My "Cranky and Kitschy" collage art is now viewable on DeviantArt! Drop by and tell me that I sent you. *updated often!*

^ Yes. At least something to connect him to his original look. Other than those weird belt things (which really - of all the things to keep from Tyroc's original appearance, they chose THAT?!?) it may as well be a completely new character.
Maybe Paul specifically asked for that since he never liked the old Tyroc anyway?

I think that the red costume of Tyroc has to do something with his name as it means the Devils Scream or something...Devil = Red...not white as it often symbolizes Angel. Hmmm?

I think we saw him walking barefoot in his jammies in the Supergirl robot story.

I like Brin's look. I did a costume look for him from a photo using that costume, more of less. I like his hair a little wilder and his eyes red or gold, but still, very similar to the cover.
I like that cover quite a bit. The Adventure cover is like the current storyline, boring. And where are the other girls, Tinya and Lu? They joined before Supes. We even see them in Adventure as being there. And, historically, Garth didn't die super early on. Lar was there and quite a few others. :grumble:

I'm on the fence about Tyroc's costume. It has a vaguely Kirby-esque feel that is okay.
But he needs hair, durnit! Long braids, or dreds, or something! Maybe a mohawk. Not enough good guys have mohawks!
Ah well, at least Jacques bucked the 1000 year old trend that Luke Cage, Black Lightning, John Stewart, Ultimate Nick Fury, etc. seem to have embraced and still has hair.

Would love to see some of those OTHER 15 members besides the founders.

Perhaps it's one of the "Durlan Assassins" in bed with Earth Man in the previous issue's cover!

I always like it when we find points of agreement, Mr. Gallagher! Since the UP sentiment that killed Brande (or at least, the Durlans might think so) that's probably a great suggestion lil'rhino. Wouldn't EM just have a kitten!

[/b]And while the whole "Death and resurrection of LL" arc is one of my ALL-TIME faves from back in the day, it is beginning to feel a little over-exposed what with the Lightning Saga and all. Newer readers probably feel like there was "The origin of LSH", "The death and resurrection of Lightening Lad", "The death of Ferro Lad" and "The GDS" and thats all you need to know about the LSH. Come on creative team, move on. There are so, so many more wonderful LSH moments in the history of this group.
So what.

Has anyone seen any advance solicits for the variant cover of issue #4 yet? I'm curious as to which Legionnaire will be featured this time.

Haven't seen any solicits, but Jim Lee posted a cover sketch of 80's Timber Wolf on his twitter that he's started working on, so I'm guessing Brin will be next...

Hey, an 80's T-Wolf would be cool ... I wonder which logo/banner they would go with though as they already did an eighties tribute with the Imra cover on #1. Hmmmmm.....

Jim Lee posted on his twitter "Has the Legion #4 variant been shown yet? The one with Mon-el front and center?" The Brin sketches could be for #5. He's posted various tweets and pictures of his stages while drawing Brin, including asking if it was ok that he wanted to put a mullet on him, as he's doing an 80's version. Oh, aaaaannd, he has also done a sneak peak of a panel from Icons.
I might live on the butt end of the world, but I get to see the days before anyone else.... mwaahahahahahaha

I stand corrected! Well, sort of... That logo was used right up until the last publishing month in 1979 for Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes #258 and then changed to the new title and chunkier logo of just "Legion Of Super-Heroes" with issues #259, published in 1980, but it was technically still September, 1979 at the time.

I like the Adventure cover. I always flash back to Superboy/LSH #201, my first comic, and I bought it because it had cool heroes lying dead on the cover. I normally don't like beanpole anorexic heroes either, but it sorta works on this cover, given the subject and the perspective. It adds to the pathos, like an El Greco painting. I think the Legion Yildiray cover is much less successful, mainly because the bad guys look generic and are in the foreground, relegating the Legion to the background. To see a better version of this cover, look at the Adventure cover from the Dark Circle's first appearance: Regarding Brainy's boots: it's clear that they are ski-boots, but I doubt Brainy was skiing. I imagine he finds their insulated, non-conducting properties an asset in his hazardous lab.
...but you don't have a moment where you're sitting there staring at a table full of twenty-five characters with little name signs that say, "Hi, my superpower is confusing you!"
