Looking nice!
We've got confirmation that Jan's power works by touch alone now.
I kind of like that limitation, but how does he use it through his gloves?
"You know how I get. I thought we already beat this guy." We get Nura played for comedy and kicking ass in the same scene! I like!

What a far cry from the introduction of the reboot Dreamy. Definitely looking nice, indeed. I'm liking this Legion more and more.

Perhaps the "touch" is less of a physical restiction, and more like a "alchemic aura", like Superman's invulnerability or Spidey's ability to stick to walls (according to some interpretations).
In other words, if the cloth is thin enough, he can work through it, but the range is only a couple of millimeters. It may also have to do with the nature of the substances...he obviously didn't touch every molecule of the compound in the preview, but the other item is a lot denser.
And I loved the take on Dream Girl. Dreamy without being ditzy.

Something else else new to disscuss! Finally!
Jan probably has to be very, very close, but not necessarily in skin-to-object contact. Or his gloves are more of a mesh, maybe.
The fact that he transformed a gas that was dispersed throughout the room raises more questions about his power - he has to be very close to a substance to affect it, but how large a volume can he affect and how dispersed can the substance be?
Also raises another question - everytime we've seen him transform something, he's used his hands - not just his body in contact with the object, but specifically his hands, even when transmuting gas.
Love Dreamy's costume. And it's always good to see Karate Kid in action.
And Brainy. I also like the fact that the Legion was correct in their analysis of the situation - seeing them in action, confident, competent and effective, is a very nice change.
We see a little more of the conflict that surrounds the UP.
And in another sign that we're going to see a Legion this time, none of the characters on the cover appear in the five pages of the preview. I like that the focus is spread across the team.
And I like the new logo with the floating heads more every time I see it.

Nice how Nura predicts the would-be assassin's moves. She could have killed him with those bracelets alone. Just wish they'd depicted her with the traditional silver-blonde hair. Otherwise, she's terrific.
Why didn't Cosmic Boy ask Nura to confirm Brainy's hypothesis?
The little quips tell us a lot about the characters' personalities: Jan's "barbarian" remark and KK's "big hairy a...". Looks like KK is a hot-head again. He had a ying/yang symbol on the back of his uni in issue #1. What happened to it?
I really like Jan's new brushed-back hairstyle and tactile powers. Can he transmute with his feet?

Aaaah! Jan works for AOL! Looking good, overall. Nice to see Dream Girl turning up, and the rest. I really need some background on the characters though. I'm not *quite* feeling like I know them yet. Particularly, I want to know how this Legion got together. J

Oooo. Dreamy pretty. (I'm still not sold on the cloud pants, but I'm getting there.)
I like the cyborg villian design, though. The lenses instead of eyes thing is kinda creepy, mostly because Barry Kitson managed to make them look almost *natural* in that setting. I wonder if such extensive body modification is common in the future?
Also, still no conformation that Brainy goes by Brainiac *5* this time around, but at least he's not glaring malevolently. Maybe the last front cover was more of a public perception thing... his siding with the Legion might make a few people nervous.

If Jan has to touch something to transform it, wouldn't his gloves get transformed every time he used his powers?

I am a tad surprised that after the promise of new storylines, the preview seems to be a take on first appearance of the Molecular Master storyline. But at least, it is over by Page 5 and it is a nice nod to the past. Love all the characterisation and how much we can learn about the Legionnaires simply by what they say and do. As regards the glove issue, could it be that the gloves are not transformed because it is not the composition that Element Lad is transmuting? I would assume that once he transmute part of what he touches, a chain reaction starts that affect the whole. Otherwise, he will have to stroke all parts of whatever he transmutes... Where does Brainiac get his information from? It seems to be even better than what the UP has. Also, could KK be too impulsive to 'wake' Dream Girl from a prognostication? Or is that her normal state?
Long Live The Legion!

COVER: I too am LOVING the logo more and more. Also find it interesting that none of the heroes on the cover are in the preview.
PAGE 1: Note the figures Brainy is looking at. "2B does not equal 2B, it equals ?" 2B as in "to be", or Brainiac 2?
In the square root tingy I also see 66B4L A refrence to Brainiac 4?
Page 2: Are there really only 5 delegates in the UP? These are all different than the ones seen last issue. Also, those UP officials were refered to as Senators, while there are delegates. Is the UP a bicamaral organization?
Page 3: I like KK's 'tude. Not crazy about Dreamy's pants, looks like she spilled someting on them.
Page 4: Unlike most, I am not terribly toubled by Element Lad's gloves. I suspect that having to touch something is less a tectile skin-to-object need than a methodoly for focus and concentration. I HIGLY favor the need to touch the item though.
But what I find even more interesting, and no one else seems to have caught it yet, is that Element Lad apparently cannot automatically sence whatever a substance is made of, unlike previous incarnations. Note, he says "now that Brainy has identified its chemical composition." The depowers Jan further by making him usless with most composite materials.
I definitly dig his costume, hair, and soul patch.
Hopefully the yin/ynag can get re-added in post-production before the book comes out.
Page 5: I'm not really impressed with tranced out Dream Girl. Is she having a dream? Why does Cos need Brainy's caluclations in the 98th percentile, why not just ask Nura. Why does she think they already beat the droid, does she not see it right in front of her? And as for the fighting.. I guess being able to precog her opponents moves would work except it seems pretty into teh moment for someone who was just a zombie 2 seconds ago thing.

[Repeated posts taken care of. You can do that for yourself, MM, by clicking on the "edit" button. It looks like a squashed tv.]
Loved the preview. Of the Legionnaires shown, I think I like Jan best, even if he is a bit distant.

He may be able to detect the components of the atmosphere, but not know WHICH components needed changing. And as for the fighting.. But she's not in the moment...she's a few moments ahead. Literally. She may have trouble focusing on the here-and-now, but in combat, that's actually a GOOD thing.

Better to say, it makes him depowered against compositions he can't recognize. I can see scenes like this: "For some reason, I can't change his gold armor into lead... wait, it's iron pyrite!" Now, if only Waid knows enough chemistry to stop having him do things Chemical King should have done and vice versa... Presumably, she can't target distant future events (like, say, more than a few seconds). Originally posted by Portfolio Boy: Why does she think they already beat the droid, does she not see it right in front of her? From my own fiction, the precognative character was constantly aware of events about 15 seconds in the future and had difficulty distinguishing exactly when he was seeing things. I would be honored if Mark Waid stole my conception! (Though, given he's never heard of me and my fiction exists primarily in my head, I suppose I couldn't call it copyrighted if I wanted to. :-)

That's the way I understood it too, there's a little confusion as to which moment she's focusing on is the present and which is the future.
I recently mentioned Molecule Master to somebody so he was kind of fresh in my mind when I read this preview earlier today. I was really pleased and wonder if Mark is intentionally doing a bit of homage to Dave Cockrum here by using the android poisoning the air plot device? He's so different but still similar enough that I kind of get the idea that Barry felt the same way and made the translator android look quite a bit like 'ol MM. Pretty cool, Barry did say he likes to add lots of "Easter eggs" to the artwork.
Is one of those ambassadors a Durlan?

I hope this clears up the whole 'terrorist' angle and the Legionaires fighting against the United Planets.
They seem very intent on "action" in these books and I think it might be a good idea to hold down the rush a bit and follow up on plots

Well spotted on the missing yin/yang symbol - it's back for the rest of the book! Can't believe we all missed that!

The Legionnaires sure have no hesitation to call each other names, do they? Kinda rude. We're in issue two and we're still seeing the adults in power (the UP) disrespecting the Legion "children." I hope this doesn't go on very long.
This scene was pretty cool. I liked the action. I'd like to know what kind of machines Brainy's using to detect everything that's happening or will happen. I'm not sure if I like that they seemed to lean on that. I suppose it's quite helpful. Why didn't Brainy's machines forsee the attack on Lallor? Maybe he invented them after that? We need to know more about Brainy and his gear.
I thought Element Lad and KK were both doing great work, but at first I didn't like the idea of Dreamy being off in la la land. However, she compensated for it, so that part of her comes across as more interesting. She looked great!
Can't wait to actually get the issue and read the whole thing!! Love previews.

Looks great! We've got a lot of variety in sentients and I think the portals look wonderful, even if I'm not a fan of portals.
Do some of those ambassadors have younger counterparts in the Issue #1 crowd scenes?
It struck me as odd that E-lad has to touch things and that he doesn't sense or read what the composition of his target is... of course, it's boring as bricks if a character doesn't have some limitation on their power. The other thing is that this is a young team - maybe some of them will be developing and refining their powers over time.
I like the portrayal of Cosmic Boy - always a bit uncertain of what the team is about to undertake? As leader of a semi-renegade group and the one who probably deals the most with the authorities, he must feel overwhelmed.

I thought Jan came off looking great. Stunning scene where he is transmuting the gas. Great job on that Barry! Karate Kid didn't look asian to me. Actually he looked like a miscolored Jo or Gim in a couple of panels. Don't care for the ditsy Nura though she did show that she can kick butt. Poor Cos apparently is confined to the control room I hope we see him in action soon. I'm not liking this version of Brainy at all. He's going to get very annoying (even MORE so than other versions )
