Definitely must be try-outs. Those are so core to what makes the book fun and they make great jump points for storylines. A great opportunity to show both the angst and the humor of the book.
"Not making the team" is something most can identify with and like in LSH, different characters handle it differently. I would want it to be the Polar Boy/ Night Girl tryout if not the Ferro Lad... tryout.
LL versus Ferro: If the first movie doesn't take, there wouldn't be any others.
Well, I defer on the LL versus Ferro death, more seem to think that the better. I guess I just cannot visualize, if I'd never heard of Legion, how that storyline would compel me? Maybe I need to dig out those issues, I think I have them in a reprint. The revival thing at the end would make it all kind of moot, wouldn't it?

I'd have to agree and say the Death of Ferro Lad would be fantastic. Acting wise? Saturn Girl- Gemma Ward (or Diane Kruger/Melissa George) Lightning Lad- Guy Pierce Cosmic Boy-Tyron Leitso Lightning Lass- Nora Zehetner?

I just had this idea: The Legion of St. Trinian's, with all the female Legionnaires as students.
Madam Fatal would have to be the headmistress.

Not Madam Fatal. Thora!
(What is Gemma Ward doing to Barbie? Stripping her naked and cutting off her hair?? I can see Tinya doing that, but not Imra.)

The way the origin and early days of the Legion were handled in the reboot could translate quite well to the screen.
The movie would begin with the origin, then have President Chu take over and draft other members into the team so that it would build very quickly. A lot of the tidbits and development of that era could be included: Lyle as the super-spy, Cham not speaking Interlac, Gim as the hardass, Thom as the klutz, Zoe as the fashion hound . . . these "tags" make it easy for the audience to identify with the characters.
The movie could conclude with the Chu sting.
Ideally, I would like to see the preboot characters used, but the reboot did such a wonderful job of fleshing out the Legion's first year and making cinematic use of the characters that it seems a more natural fit. I like this, but realistically the Chu sting would be hard to fit into a single movie. Even taking away much of the intervening plot would be tough; Chu worked best because we almost didn't see it coming. Winema Wazzo was a very effective red herring, as was the fake Sun-Eater and the Fatal Five. Having the Chu Sting take place in a sequel though, with Chu being introduced in the first movie, would work beautifully I think. This would also help us get more invested in the characters.

^^I see the reboot working as a much better plot guide for a tv series than for a movie, myself.

OK, this time I'm serious.
No, seriously. I'm serious.
Honestly.
Two words:
Lego Legion.
Next time we have a DC/Marvel crossover, I want it to take place in the Hostessverse

I think the first movie should be a mash-up of most of what I consider the best moments of the first 4 years of the Adventure era, bookended by two Khund assaults on Earth -- the one where Garth dies, and the one involving the 4 new members where Nemesis Kid tries to frame Karate Kid as the traitor. At the same time of the second assault, we could work in Sun Boy's bout of space madness, the Super-Stalag, Computo, and Star Boy taking a life, all happening more or less simultaneously with the ongoing battle.
In the second movie, the aftermath of the battle brings the super-criminals out of the woodwork, leading to one-off battles against the likes of Regulus and Starfinger, and climaxing with the coming together of the Fatal Five and their takeover of Talok VIII (the Five's first comics appearance, "Death of Ferro Lad," is a great story, but I like the Talok one better and I think it'd work better as a movie.)
Third movie: a mash-up of Jim Shooter's Universo epic and Paul Levitz's Universo epic.
Still "Fickles" to my friends.

I'd like to see something like the animated series, just not animated. the reason is that they managed to draw info from many eras to make a version of the legion that didn't require an encyclopedia to understand. You could watch any episode without knowing anything at all about the Legion and enjoy it. On the other hand they would include things (tips of the hat) from old times and Easter Egg them in - that older fans could enjoy.

I feel that the 20-issue run of Legion of Super-Heroes in the 31st Century is underappreciated.

And a Teen Lantern, and Impulse (Bart Allen), and 31st-century Amazons on Io, and Starro the Conquerer, and a giant statue of J'Onn J'Onzz on Mars, Thanagarian Pirates, and Tharok disguised as Metallo...
I had pre-teen grandchildren at the time.

I think they should go in a totally different direction to most other superhero films and do a minimal action, character-focused film. Something else else Wes Anderson esc focusing on some random light-hearted adventure where various legionnaires bond and have a fun time while still doing their job as superheroes.
Superboy's first mission with them could be a good plotline as he can be a surrogate character for the Legion to infodump about their future society too and a rookie Superboy with no-training in how to use his powers would prevent him from overshadowing the rest of the Legion.
