I'm currently working on a lovely new sketch of Dream Girl, and it occured to me that she's the type of character that moms would generally not care for. Extremely beautiful, curvy, flirty, scantily clad, and full on sexy. Moms might think that this is not the type of character they want their little kids watching in cartoons.

So I got to thinking, what else about the Legion could be considered controversial? The kind of stuff that we're all really used to, or comfortable with, but that people new to the series would be put off by.

I would say any of the adult themes would upset those parents who think that because it is a comic book, it is for kids and is santized for kids.

LL probably shouldn't lose an arm, Triplicate Girl should only become Duo Damsel if one girl decides to quit and become a computo...I mean computer technician. The original stories would probably freak me out if I were a wee lad.

Maybe cartoon Dreamy will have a long silver turtleneck sweater?

I don't see much in the LSH stories into the 80's of much controversy by even today's conservative standards. When the cloths starting coming off and people started changing sex, well then there were a few things discussion worthy.

Those old Terrytoon and Warner Brothers cartoons of the 50's/60's hit some of the same controversial subjects on the front pages today (racism, roles of women, cannibalism) and even got a bit racy but did it in a way that really little kids wouldn't catch on. The art and animation blew away most anything on Network tv today and had classics in symphony and jazz playing throughout. Give me a Legion Animation along those lines.....

I look at a book like "Fables" and say this so could have been done in a way that parents, teens, and kids could have enjoyed and talked about together, but NOOOOooooo, they got to put Cinderella in there butt naked with Boo Bear and have Jack chopping heads off chickens.

The Giffen/Beirbaum version of Roxxas the Butcher. A murderer, schizophrenic, and Fabulous all at the same time--plenty for uptight parents to take offense at.

Torrid love affairs between secretly gay super-heroes and decietful trannies may not play in Peoria.

"Quiet Darkness": The God of Evil Incarnate ends up being a sympathetic character. Every red state would have Al Gordon burning in effigy. And don't get me started on the whole "Evolvo Problem"...!

I don't know that we're going to see the destruction of Trom in the cartoon either.

No, I don't think they could get that one past BS&P very easily.

I like wearing caps. My mom and all my friends' parents are fine with it.

But here's something my dad wasn't too fond of: How Brin's dad had experimented on him. He didn't think it was a very good thing to show younger kids because if their parents were scientists they'd probably stop trusting their parents...or at elast that's what he said.

hey you at least gotta give 'em credit for not SHOWING him experimenting on him.

*shrug* Yeah, that's true. My dad had to give them credit for that.

see. WB cares about family values and stuff. (I learned that the hard way when they MASACERED (sp) Cardcaptors) it's just hard to explain why Timberwolf is that way without telling about his father's experiments and stuff.

It's an opportunity for the family to discuss it. Have these scientist parents ever wondered if their kids were nervous about possibly becoming guinea pigs? "Dad, you'd never experiment on *me* would you?" Then, Dad has a chance to explain his stance on such things.

That's definitely a perspective I had never considered before. Thanks, Ojisan.

yah. that kinda hits it close to home where I live cause almost every kid I know has a parent who's a doctor or a scientist and I'm sure those kids wouldn't want to be experimented or operated on. like one of my best friends, his dad's some kind of space scientist. I'm pretty sure he doesn't want to be sent into orbit anytime soon. (although he does want to be a space physisit (major spelling))

Yeah, but what about if the planet was about to explode? Wouldn't he want his dad to send him off in a rocket to safety? wink

T-wolf's original origin doesn't have his father experiment on him. His dad does give him super-powers, but it was presented as a sure thing, not as an experiment.

That makes some sense (by-the-by, happy 44th Quislet), I kinda prefer the experimentation for some reason though...it sounds cool so that might just be it...

You haved to give these kids a little credit. I mean I was addicted to the dungeons and dragons cartoon as a kid but it didn't keep me from going to the amusement park.

...More than I can say for me...then again I live in the middle of nowhere and my mom and dad never take me and my brother anywhere 'cause we argue all the time...And he kicked my knee and moved the kneecap (I seriously felt it move, hurt as all levels of Hell) a while back and how it pops and hurts.
My dad was somewhat annoyed (not much mind you, just enough to comment) with the only appearance of Matter Eater Lad. He says: "Yeah, tell the kids to stick just about anything in their mouths, not like parents are tellin' them not to." I pointed out that some kids wind up chewing on whatever anyway so it really doesn't matter.
