Although DC call it a '1 in 10' variant, LCSs have to order 10 'ordinary' covers to get one variant so it is technically a 'one in eleven' variant.

I ordered mine from my LCS and was promised that being a 1 in 10 variant only inceases the cost to around double the cover price... which I can live with if the finished product is as good as only Jim Lee could deliver. Hey, anyone seen a copy of this yet?? Anyway, anything would be better than the solicited cover (yuck!).

Yeah that cover sure is weak. And I am not sure that Cinar is going to be an artist that the masses will flock to, if you get my meaning. I know his work from his "Noble Causes" run - a book I really loved - and it was solid, but not outstanding. To hire him instead of a big gun penciller lets me fear for the dedication to the attempt of reigniting the Legion franchise... ... but I'll be there for it, no matter what

Once you get to be a "big gun," you probably want to do something where you get a bigger fan base with not quite so much exertion.
I've seen worse covers, frankly. Give the guy a chance to grow and get comfortable. You look at Giffen and Grell's early work and it doesn't look like much by contemporary standards, either.

I agree....who could else forget the artwork of Oliver during the Legion Lost and improved so much that he took off to work on Thor and Avengers and his popularity skyrocketed? wow.

I've been out of commission for awhile, so I'm a Johnny-come-lately on this thread, but having JUST now seen it, I've just GOTTA say...
HALLELUJAH!!
Not only is the new book by Levitz FINALLY launched (and I, for one, would be ecstatic this book was coming out even if the cover featured green sh*t flies hovering over something icky!), but ...
Doom Patrol!! My 2nd favorite Book! I never thought they'd come together!
OF course, all about a year overdue...or TWO years, considering the 50th anniversary. But still, it did NOT die, the ORIGINALS are back, so...
LONG LIVE THe LEGION
P.S. (For those of us who grew up with the Levitz Legion...its good to be the financially dominant generation, isn't it?)

If by "financial dominance," you refer to that old joke about the wallet that has "nothing in it but three moths and a washer"-- then, yeah. Sure.

 Yeah. And I don't even have the washer.

The hand on the cover to LSH#1 belongs to Mekt Ranzz' missing twin!!! Notice the lightning bolt hitting the flight ring? That's the clue!! It's a misleading clue though because Mekt's twin was separated at birth and thus has no lightning powers. Why was he taken? Because that was the actual Darkseid's curse from the Great Darkness Saga!!! The twin who stayed on Winath grew up evil because of his solo status, while the other twin grew up noble & heroic because he was saved from Darkseid's clutches by none other than the Guardians of the Universe!!!

i think it's superboy's hand. or superman's hand rather.
anyway, why don't they just put wonder woman on the cover of Legion of Super Heroes #1. (come on) or batman. or the scarecrow.
<sad face> wants a real legion cover.

Oh, and I'm not sure if I agree with the whole Mekt twin thing. Has there been any hint of a twin in any of the continuites? Could it just be a Green Lantern in the future who has to choose to be a Lantern or a legionnaire? We've had Supes and Supergirl thrown in there. Yes, they are a part of Legion history, but why not a Green Lantern?! I don't know that much Lantern history, but why not just throw a Green Lantern in there for some form of funs sake?!

I think its Polar Boy on the Legion 1 cover. Thats why its showcasing his forearm. When he gets the Green Lantern ring, it grows him back a real arm from his current ice one. Thats my theory and I am sticking to it.

Hmm....maybe Mon's last action before going into the Phantom Zone is the act that will bring about his death at the hands of the Time Trapper from the Baxter series. Thus, he has the Legion career of Mon-El but is now dead in the contemporary stories. That doesn't explain his LO3W appearance but I could see them doing something like that. I don't really think Levitz wants to write Mon-El, and if Sodam Yat is joining the team it makes Mon redundant.
I hope they don't do this...I like Mon a lot better than Sodam Yat.

And if Levitz is including the end of the Baxter run in this continuity, then that means Mon-El is dead. As far as prominence...I don't really remember Mon being prominent. His relationship with Shady was prominent, and there was that cool back home in hell issue but that's about it. He basically just stood around and held up heavy stuff. I don't really mind that to be honest, as I think Mon-El makes a great enigmatic supporting character and not so great lead character...but I definitely like him better alive than I do dead. I don't know that Mon is going to be dead in the contemporary stories, only that he was so at the end of Levitz last run on the Legion, which is supposed to be part of this continuity in some way, and I don't see any Mon anywhere in the Cinar drawings.

I think the last bit has more to do to not confusing readers of the 21st century adventures.
And regardless of whether or not Mon died in the V3 series...he's back now (along with several dozen other unexplained characters) in the Johnsboot. Mon's death was even reversed in the TMK series just months after his "death."
Mon-El (with Shadow Lass and often with Ultra Boy and Phantom Girl) were used to set up and tell most of Levitz story arcs, so I hardly see him as not being used by Levitz now.

True but it seems to me we are in one of those accursed time in flux situations...although I like this one better than I usually do. Mon's death was even reversed in the TMK series just months after his "death."
And if he is indeed dead again, the same thing could happen. I don't have any proof he's dead, it's just speculation on my part. Mon-El (with Shadow Lass and often with Ultra Boy and Phantom Girl) were used to set up and tell most of Levitz story arcs, so I hardly see him as not being used by Levitz now. [/qb]
We'll see...I think Yat being on the team bodes poorly for Mon. I genuinely hope I'm wrong.
