Current LSH hasn't seen the LSV yet, so we don't know. We only saw Mekt in the DnA run, I believe, and the Superman/Batman version wasn't him. I'd say this S/B LSV goes right back to the Adventure era.

Since that the pre an post boot timelines are in continuity this LSV is from the post crisis pre zero hour timeline. Or better, an alternate future timeline of that timeline. They´re, of course, the ones that join the Dinamoboy LSH.

Also, Cosmic King has an additional power he never had in any previous incarnation. It would be nice if these three could be linked into ThreeBoots Legion, but I guess we shouldn't count on it.

I think it would be very cool if they belonged to the new Legion timeline. Interesting way to introduce the LSV into current continuity. In the end have them emerbge from their time-bubble into the current LSH time...
Better yet, have the current Legion timeline be a direct result from their time tampering ways. That would be interesting indeed. Granted this is probably not going to happen, but how would you feel if it did?

I think I would prefer that to some Time Trapper or Persuader's silly dimension-slicing axe explanation.
Didn't Waid say something about this Legion existing in isolation from the contemporary DCU? Or was that just until the Countdown-related changes kick in?

I would also prefer it. All the elements are in place. Why not use them?

The new LSV dude does favor Urthlo, but I'm willing to lay money down that it is Beauty Blaze and a more-threatening looking Echo.
ps/ I'm AMAZED to hear how many fans haven't heard of Echo & Beauty Blaze. *tsk!* Research the classics, kids, you won't be disappoined!

I think the LSV is one of the few villains I'd absolutely LOVE to see come back into the new Legion's mythos. They fit perfectly with the whole kids vs. adults paradigm that they've started to build upon, IMO.

Lash, realize that not everyone is willing and able to shell out money for 12 Legion Archives. Me, OTOH, bought the first 8 of them *twice* because I left them behind when me and my ex split up. I can't imagine doing this for any other Archive series.

Beauty Blaze and Echo came to my mind when I first saw that page. The Adult Legion saga is still one of my favorite Legion stories.
I started reading Superman/Batman during the Supergirl storyline, and I like both the stories and the art. Just like the Adult Legion, the Legion reboots, and S&B, if you ignore continuity and just think to yourself "Elseworlds" the stories are much more enjoyable.
PS - Echo also appeared for one panel in a TMK story in a flashback of Legionnaires just before they disbanded for the five-year-gap (it included Dream Girl and Blok as well if memory serves). The suggestion was Echo was actually a Legionnaire for a time! Can't remember the issue, but it may have been the one featuring Sun Boy??

Yes, Echo was a Legionnaire briefly, off-panel, during the 5 year gap.
He appeared for a 1-panel flashback in TMK's SLH # 28 (iirc), the Sun Boy spotlight.
A few more details about his membership are revealed in the 2994 LSH Sourcebook.

The stories in question have been reprinted in various giant-sized issues, too. Though those are almost as pricey as the archives.
I haven't priced the smaller digest-sized series of reprints... mentioned elsewhere on the this forum. Did the LSV issues get reprinted in those?
It was a *real* rush to see Echo (I'm pretty sure that's who it'll be) and Beauty Blaze on that last page... that good ol' secong (third? fourth?) string glow...

[/b]I want a piece of that bet also I'm convinced it's Echo (yes, he did have a funky full-face mask) because he's the only one that makes sense in that grouping. Saturn Queen, Cosmic King, Lightning Lord, Beauty Blaze and Echo were the 5 members of the LSV shown in the Adult LSH story. This is obviously a tribute to that infamous story.

I don't think it exists in isolation of the contemporary DCU. If memory serves, Mr. Waid, in Dallas, said that the current Legion IS the timeline. It's up to the rest of the DCU to make the Legion timeline fit in to their titles. Or something like that. BTW ... I picked up the first six issues in the hardback format that was released about a year ago of Superman/Batman. It was an incredibly fun read. Since then, I've sorta hung on for dear life. It's just one of those titles that you kick back and enjoy. To take a line from Bevis, it's a great "popcorn" comic. (But that's just my opinion.)

I totally agree with you. With S/B, I tell my internal continuity cop to shut the heck up and have some fun for once.
Truth be told, though, I'm not successful at doing that for long. The Hawkman/Shazam plot hole was infuriating -- YOU DON'T END A COMIC WITH A CLIFFHANGER AND THEN RESOLVE THE CLIFFHANGER COMPLETELY OFF-PANEL. And this time around, it's the Silver Age'd origin of Aquaman plus the plot hole of Batman regaining his "Batman" memories despite having never BEEN Batman in this timeline that have disappointed me.
The art drew me back to this title -- rare for that to happen to me. The other appeal of S/B is the Jekyll half of Loeb to the Hyde responsible for those moments I hate: the running internal commentary of the title characters. THAT, I love. That and the fact that this is less a Superman or Batman title than it is a tour of the whole DCU. I mean, who HASN'T appeared yet in this book?
-- Still here to help.

I know Loeb's stuff isn't what you'd call "great" writing, but I do find his stuff enjoyable. This is the sort of stuff that sold 100,000+ copies years ago. It was fun precisely because it was goofy.
