Brainy was doing pretty well in the exit polling.

I suspect that at least part of it is that he's really popular among newer/more casual Legion fans (e.g. those who got into because of the cartoon).

Jasmine was in the reboot, I think.

Jeckie was leader after Polar Boy, so this Legion has elected females four times, so far.

Just be grateful that (bleah!) "Superman X" didn't end up the write-in winner then!

I wonder if the "in-story' results are proportionately related to the way the actual fan voting played out. I'd find it very odd that Polar Boy would have garnered so high a fan response.

Also... no Chameleon Girl vote? She is still on the team, correct? Am I remembering correctly that she, herself, actually was one of the ballot choices?

Imra, Nura and Jeckie in the retroboot.
Jasmin doesn't count because she's in the reboot and out of continuity.

Was Jeckie the leader during 5yl?
Has Brek been Legion leader already?
Another thing to look up.
sigh

Imra was elected twice. Jeckie was leader during Magic Wars.

I think the easiest fix for Levitz story-wise (since he seems to have had other plans for Mon-el) is to have him decline leadership and turn it over to Brainy.

Would that mean Sun Boy or Polar Boy would then be acting deputy? (I haven't bothered to add up the votes).

That would be a big insult to the voters though. If he couldn't use him he shouldn't have been eligible

Not to mention his appearance on Smallville recently, and that's a huge ratings grabber so that was bound to make some new fans out there.
This is not a bad thing btw ... any publicity is good publicity as far as the Legion's concerned (but no bad publicity ain't bad either).

Brainy has always been popular, now he's just more popular.

I knew that Imra was elected twice.
Do you count that as separate women leaders?

No, but Krypton Kid said "this Legion has elected females four times" which is true. Imra twice, Nura and Jeckie once each.

I was really, really looking forward to Phantom Girl getting the Legion leader vote this time. Even second place would have been ok ... that way if Monel was written off the main book (ie: left to explore the universe as a Green Lantern) then Tinya would have gotten the job by default!

I think that would have made for some really excellent character moments and growing pains (plus some really funny ones too I bet) for PG while she learns what it means to be the leader. This would have made her the fourth female to get that honour.

Sadly it seems the job now might go to Brainy, again!

Brainy hasn't been leader since the 60's but he seems powerful in the legion because he has all the knowledge.

Canonically, there are a number of Legionnaires with scientific prowess. But we rarely get to see that because all too often, it's: Oh, Brainy, tell us what to do!

I used to be a huge fan of the character, but let me tell you: Nothing kills love for me like overexposure. Even the fanfic I write is all set in the Animated 'verse. That way I have the option of Brainy being canonically removed from the picture (see the end of S2) and I can keep him out, and give some other characters a chance to actually breathe some air for a change. tongue

I wouldn't be surprised if we see Mon-El delegating many of his Legion leader duties to various mission "deputies" while he's taking care of far-away GL tasks.

We could very well see Brainy, PG, Cham, and others assuming leader roles until the next election.

I agree with those who said that if Mon-El was already scripted for the coming year, he shouldn't have been included in the election. Look how quickly ME-Lad, Chuck and Lu were removed from the equation.

Dreamy, Imra, Cham and Mon-El are supposed to be really smart and / or technically minded, and they never get to show that off.

I think it could be funny if Dream Girl (or one of the others) were to be written similar to Cassandra or Lisa Simpson. She's smart/precognitive, but nobody ever listens to her because she's beautiful.

Really not happy with those results, to put it mildly.

Mon-El was on my list of interesting options, but number five, below Tinya, Cham, Lu and Ayla. And Lu wasn't even a legal option. smile

With the Durlan assassin storyline, Cham would have been an ideal choice, being the son of Brande and a very long-term Legionnaire (and the only one from the core four in The Universo Project that hasn't been leader, IIRC).

In a way, since I suspect that Paul intends to put the team through the wringer, I'm almost glad that Tinya didn't get the job, as she'd forever have the stench of whatever terrible things happen stuck to her, like poor Janet, over in the Avengers, never able to live down the awful crap that happened while she was leader, as if it was somehow her fault.

Nobody is likely to blame Mon-El's leadership for anything bad that happens in the next year, or, if they do, it will be forgiven because he's double-timing it as a Green Lantern and didn't have the opportunity to fully focus on Legion matters. He'll get a pass. I'm not sure that someone like Tinya would get that pass if all hell broke loose 'on her watch.'

At least Brainy didn't win. The only person I'd *less* like to see leader would be Earth-Man, and, yes, that means that I'd rather see Gates, Dawnstar or Quislet as leader, before Brainy.

The next issue blurb for Adventure Comics #522 says, "The New Green Lantern!"

I wonder, does that simply mean we'll be seeing Mon-El, or might he somehow pass on his GL ring in order to assume his Legion duties?

A new, new, NEW, Green Lantern? Dayum, that ring gets around. There's been enough fingers wiggling around in there, that the next 'chosen' should use protection, if ya know what I mean...
