oh...so THAT's why his hair's white...but wouldn't that put Mekt in jail for like, ever?

I read that part, but I prefer the version with Mekt because it explains why his hair's white in the cartoon.

And CopyCat....go figure, it's the 31st century *shrug*

That would be cool though. If that was true I'd love to get a life sentence.

See? In both the original series AND in the reboot Garth was a "hard luck hero". He's a bit stronger in personality in the current book than he was in the recently canceled series but I always wonder how much of Legion history Mark Waid's going to use and how much he'll ignore.
This doubly goes for the 'toon since obviously the creators are students of LSH lore.

..oops..
forgot to mention the clown..can't forget the clown laugh
As far as I know the scary clown is NEW to poor Garth's back story.

I do like how there are obvious and non-so-obvious references to the comics though. Even though I don't understand some of them at the time I research it and get a big kick outta it. One I had immediately recognized was "Cumputo" and when I heard that I asked when it'd go outta Brainy's control. My brother sat there oblivious until I explained it to him...it's kinda sad when you hafta explain things to your older brother. *sigh*

lol I'm the oldest in my family but my siblings don't care a THING about whatever I have to say. it's 99% of the time about Brainy now a days anyway.

Well I gotta explain to my dad too so that's kinda sad too since I kinda figgered he'd be the one explaining references to the comics since he's older.

Sounds like it's time for dad to do a little bit of comic book buying on e-bay laugh

Yeah Ojisan, it's very cool that there's so much use of history in the cartoon. Like you said though, it's seldom obvious when they're pulling out some bits from the past to make them new again.
...and my 6yr old watches it with me every saturday. I love it when he starts explaining it to ME. laugh

I think so too (he's 47 this year so I kinda figgered he'd at least know something) , but he likes watching with me so I'd rather not have my know-it-all dad commentating on the whole episode while it's on. And he thinks me and my brother are annoying when he watched TV...

Aww, that's just gotta be adorable! I can't wait to be married and have kids of my own so I can have moments like that. ^_^

I don't think they'd mentioned in any Legionnaire's backstory that they believed in monsters under the bed -- yet that is a common fear among children.

Though I'm surprised that no-one's mentioned where the name "Captain Howdy" came from, RL? It was the name of the child murderer from Twisted Sister's two-part song "Horror-Teria".

Twisted Sister was an early 80s metal band most famous for their song "We're Not Gonna Take It".

The Exorcist is an old school horror film. The effects are kinda simple by today's standards but the way they use long sequences without cuts really built up tension. (You don't get that in those gorefests that are almost cartoony more than scary.)

I took a girl to the Exorcist when it was rereleased a few years back. Still freaks people out after all these years.

long sequences without cuts??? that IS scary!! (jk) it's just kinda hard for me to imagine a scary movie cause I'm just not really scared by those kinds of things. I am scared of the WEIRDEST things. (plus some of the weirdest reasons why)

~Heather's Exclussive Scare List~
-Peacocks (attacked by peacocks as a young child)
-Frogs (played a Mother Goose computer game as a child and everytime you got to some part this giant frog would jump up at the computer screen. scared the HECK out of me)
-Celery (nightmare about celery coming alive and eating everyone in the grocery store. never eaten celery to this day)
-Being alone in the back room of my house (it's haunted and I can see ghosts. why NOT be afraid?!)

you wanna scare me, make a peacock and a frog drag me to the back of my house and force me to eat celery. THEN I'll be scared.

yah. as a child my family and I went to the flea market and there were these chickens there. now, I was REAL little and had like, never seen chickens before so of course when a rooster crowed in my face I was a bit freaked out. then that night, I had a nightmare where a giant chicken came in my room and was sitting on my bed. so now my family keeps picking on me about how I was scared of a chicken even though I absolutely ADORE chickens now.

Chickens! When I was little we used to see them in trucks goin' by the house all the time (we live out in the country outside a small town about 30 minutes south of Dover, state capital) and we used to pretend (me and a couple friends who came to my house because my mom ran a daycare) that we were gonna go save the chickens. It was so cute, ya'll woulda laughed if ya'll saw it.

and the reason I missed those is because I was reading a list in alphabetical order and that was as far as I got.

the list was ordered by fears not phobias. and yes conversations can take odd turns.

that way makes mor sense *nods* And I found a picture of my boyfriend (with me in a ratehr unflattering way in the background) today! He's in DeMolay and I'm in Job's Daughters...we kinda broke the "No Jobie dating a DeMolay" rule made up by other Jobies but I don't really care...

???? I have no idea what either of those things are and it took me like five times rereading it to figure out that "ratehr" was supposed to be "rather"
