Does anybody know if it will be Legion related? The blurb mentions repurcussions for a millenium but thats a bit vague to me. It also mentions a planet where Superman is worshipped. Is that a future Legionnaires planet? Or am I grasping at straws? confused

I'm actually hoping that they are separate. I'd like to see what Paul does without the Legion involved (Superman/Batman) as well as with them.

Oh, good. It features the three founders and Brainy. I was beginning to forget what they looked like.

I think they need to change the group's name to the Quartet of Super Heroes.

The art is pretty, though.

Ordway's style, with the softer faces, makes them look a bit younger than they look drawn by most of the other artists I've seen around these parts recently.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the continual emphasis on a tiny handful of Legionnaires is the result of editorial decree. Supposedly, the large cast of characters most of us associate with the team is a problem, so far as newer readers getting into the series. So the majority of the characters end up as walk-ons if they show up at all, while the same tiny group gets center stage anytime there's a big event outside the book proper.

Seems silly to me, but since when do TPTB give a flying rat's [bleep] about what I think? shrug

Is it the whole rat that's flying, or just the rat's (bleep)??
I always wondered about that.

The art looks wonderful. I love Jerry Ordway. Shame about the four Legionnaires he's been given to draw. I am SO bored of that combination of characters. I'm getting to the point where I almost never want to see them share a panel again, ever.

Given that Dan DiDio has admitted that he 'doesn't get' the Legion, you are probably right. "The central few plus walk ons when needed" was the way the team was organised for the TV show, though Cos was one of the walk-ons despite being leader.

Look at which four heroes they picked to make for the JLU style 4-pack on Mattycollector last year ...

I get that they are trying to "brand" (no pun intended) these three founders-plus-one genius onto the newer readers but cut the rest of the team some slack ... I doubt a 4-pack featuring Wildfire, TimberWolf, Ultra Boy and Blok would sit on the toy store shelves collecting dust. Neither would a comic at the local comic shop featuring those same 4 and Batman.
Does DC think the readers would go "Who the heck are those guys? I'm not buying that" .... um, no. In fact it might actually increase sales for that issue and possibly make the new readers then go and pick up Paul Levitz Legion book to see more of those same four.

It's time DC came out of its comfort zone and gave some others on the team a chance by promoting them and believing in them.

A more hopeful explanation is that they ARE trying to raise the brand awareness of the Legion, starting with the most prominent characters. The founders had a fair amount of prominence in the early history of the Legion, after all. And we did just have a big Superman storyline starring Mon-El, Sensor Girl, Chameleon Boy, Matter-Eater Lad, etc. I'm delighted Brainy is getting used so much -- he's an iconic, fascinating and amusing character, and there really isn't anyone else like him in the DCU. I'm hopeful that the Legion's interaction with SuperGIRL will open up more cameo options for our Legionnaires. We need an updated version of the Super Girl Friends story. It would be nice to see an occasional story that's the reverse of the recent BATB Legion story--Superman or Supergirl has a present-day problem that a particular Legionnaire could help with.

...but you don't have a moment where you're sitting there staring at a table full of twenty-five characters with little name signs that say, "Hi, my superpower is confusing you!"

Super girlfriends is out of continuity to be replaced with a Satan Girl story in the october Supergirl annual.

The thing about Brainy is that is takes a good writer not to write him as a jackass with no motivation. I'm glad Brainy is in the keep of Levitz and Gates. Gates especially gets Brainy.

maybe that's what the supergirl annual is...it could explain the dancing saturn girl, phantom girl and triplicate girl LOL

I just read this issue and, while I really appreciate the extra exposure the Legion is getting, I must confess I am a bit stumped as to what the whole purpose of the trip to the 21st century was!? I read it twice already and * ahem * I'm ashamed to say I still don't get what the point of this issue was. confused

So the good news is, that this isn't as Founders/Brainy centric as the preview implies, there's actually a pretty decent sampling of Legionnaires.

The Bad news is that this story is pretty much a throwaway. It's a decent enough "Done in One", but it is kind of pointless, especially for the 6 bucks (Canadian) I spent on it.

There are also a number of two-page backups by different teams, some good, some not.

Did anyone else notice Vi and Jo in the last three pages? By the end they looked like they were ready to kiss.

Why is Batman acting as if he hasn't met the Legion here? Even if you ignore Brave and the Bold 179, he's met two versions of the Legion in Brave and the Bold #5-6 and Superman/Batman #14-18, both of which are fairly recent... and he's met them in Lightning Saga.

what was that all about? i have no idea. i can only guess it's linked to other current or upcoming Superman/Batman plots.

i enjoyed the Legion looking for Batman to help, and seeing the legion burst on the sleepy main street of Smallville one more time, but... there are a few head-scratchers.

Dawnstar does not act like she just met and fought w/Bats a few months ago in Lightning Saga. even if it is Dick and not Bruce, it's Dawny that acts like she doesn't know what a Batman is. Also, "Batman" refers to the Legion as "YOUNG heros from the future". however, Superboy calls them "old... and scruffy". can anyone make up their mind how old this Legion is? this is infuriating.
they are either teens or same age as Superman, they can't be both.
