There was the obligatory B&W preview copy of issue #37 (No #36, that I could find) and I thought I'd share what I was able to peek through. It was in the middle of a busy table next to Jim Lee and other big names signing and sketching, so I didn't read it word for word.

SPOILERS: The first several pages takes place on Karahdia. If I remember correctly, those shown were Spark, Live Wire (in HIS uniform and not Jan's, although he was obviously crystalline), Cosmic Boy, Triad, Invisible Kid, Star Boy & Kid Quantum. M'Onel and Superboy were in space & Saturn Girl was in a ship above the planet. Saturn Girl's in communication with Gear and Chuck and says they can't stop and help with the Metropolis crisis since the bugs may overrun the system.

Dreamer's still unconscious and a prisoner of Devil & Canary. She's joined by Timber Wolf, whom Devil is attracted to, but he bites her when she kisses him.

Oasis One apparently crashed the issue before and Karate Kid lost the fight with the escaped prisoners, although he made alliances with Organ Thief, Persuader, and his daughter. He promises the prisoners that he can do a better job taking them all down now (i.e. this issue). He's mentally prepared this time.

Brainy's mental problems seem to have been dealt with by now since he seems to be in charge. Chameleon has been injured (a broken arm?) They surmise that the villains are after Legionniares and not the President of the UP, since Apparition was the target and not Winema. I couldn't tell if the theory about Taan replacing Wazzo was true. The surprising part is who is helping this group of Legionnaires... laugh

Although I enjoyed their art in #35, Dan and Andy do an incredible job this issue. They really captured the characters more than #35. From what I was able to read, Gail has done another outstanding job. This may be my favorite arc of the post-boot Legion.

SPOILERS:...a group of at least four cadets. Not sure how they got there or why, but there they are. However, none of them seemed to have appeared in #25. These four are "new." (Well the masked one may have.) smile

The two males are original. One of them is made of or can turn into Aluminum and has abilities along those lines. The second male is an obvious alien who can affect gravity within a 6 foot cubic area.

Now then, the two females are from the pre-boot. The first one shown is Nightwind. She's pretty impressive with her wind powers. She defends Chameleon after he's been injured further. But, the big and very welcome surprise is the masked cadet, who turns out to be...

...Infectious Lass. Not only does Drura look great, but she takes out Lantern and Arrow at the end of the issue, Reep says (I'm paraphrasing), "one of our most promising cadets."

Let's all pray that Waid doesn't reboot this Legion away. I want to see more. And now I'm depressed that Gail didn't continue as the ongoing writer. frown

Better? I have to admit as being the type that loves to know how a movie ends before I see it. It's like seeing it for the second time, the first time. MUCH more enjoyable. And I still don't know how it'll all end, so where's the harm?

Nightcrawler good job! Very exciting stuff. The cadets info kicks butt! I'm a big fan of both the females! I hope Waid doesn't just throw this stuff out! frown

thanks

Not to be a killjoy, but do these have to be up? They really will cut into the enjoyment of the issues, I think.

Just wondering...

The invisible text isn't enough? If I couldn't get to the convention, I'd have liked someone to spill the beans.

But, if you really think the warnings and invisible text isn't enough, I can delete this thread, Gail.

It's really up to you guys, I'm just a guest here. If this is S.O.P., then so be it. But I think anything that actually spoils a story is a darn shame.

If you guys are cool with it staying up, that's what matters.

Well, this is the first time we've had access to a future issue since LW came into being. If this is considered bad form, I'll delete it.

We understand what you're saying Gail but some of us don't have immediate access to issues in the comic shop and we're dying to be part of the discussions as soon as they get started when a new issue is out.
Yes, spoilers do a little damage to the mysteriousness of each new issue but knowing a little in advance of the release makes me that much more curious and excited to see the new one each month.
Heck, I'll betcha somebody aroound here would cheerfully scarifice one of their least favorite pets for an advance copy of Mark Waid's first issue...and the rest of us would pester him/her mercilessly until he/she scanned it in and uploaded it.

So, is Issue 37 the last one before Waid takes over?

Except for the second post, these spoilers don't seem as groundbreaking as when I first posted them. #36 gave most (BUT not all) of what I said away.

Be wary of the second post, ye who don't like to be spoiled!

Spoilers and even more spoilers ahead!

Gail, can I just thank you a million times for the great new Cadet we got to see in Legion #37! They and Nightwind have totally made my inner Legion fan happy. laugh

I liked a lot of the pacing in this issue, and was glad to see the Legionnaires get back on their toes and get organized, even the ones that seemed pretty bad off by last issue.

I'm glad there was a little bit of a Legion come-back against Arrow and Lantern at the end. I was starting to get annoyed with them...which means they're great villains! They pose a threat and make my hair stand on end everytime they target a Legionnaire or make a move! The guys you love to hate, I suppose! I'm interested to see what larger role Canary is going to play (I assume she has something major to do for the conclusion). Perhaps we have a future Legionnaire within her? Devil is still fun in her sadistic way.

Timber-Wolf came off a little Wolverine to me in this issue with the "healing" line, though the abilities do fit him (not to mention, Brin DID come before Logan). I can't wait to see his move against Devil. I'm glad Cham has bounced back from his injuries, but with how many he's sustained in this issue, I wonder how he'll fair long-term?

Not much of Jo and Tinya, except for their "somber" moment. I hope Winema will pull through, believe it or not. She makes a good foil to the team and I'd hate to have the U.P. go through yet another President in the past five years.

Even big, Vi was great this issue. She actually used her size powers well for something other than standing around. Smart play using the grav-tubes/rails to prop buildings up. Without tech running, they aren't much use, are they? Brainy was great in charge and Val certainly hasn't lost his edge against the prisoners. Glad to see him meet up with the others and I loved his "mentally prepared" line. Umbra didn't have much for this issue, though I'm sure she and the others will get their time to shine.

Loved getting a peek into the other Legion's mission! They certainly have their hands full! I worry about them from what Spark's narration is indicating. Three days is a long time to be fighting, and I can't help but notice several Legionnaires aren't present with her "several of us might not make it" line. Good to see Saturn Girl in the Bouncing Boy, along with M'On and Supes for aerial reinforcements here. It makes sense some Legionnaires just wouldn't work well with hand-to-hand combat on the ground for so long. Loved Garth's new (reused) duds!

Heh.

Well, yay! Glad you enjoyed it!

Barring the error (that I think was my fault) about the date in the first issue, this is supposed to take place a little later than DnA's run. So costumes and such, well, it's just to show some time has passed, and some changes made.

Best,

Gail

Gail,

I don't recall any error with the dates in the first issue, but even then I like the subtle hints we're starting to get that time HAS passed from DnA's run. We've got a few new cadets that have joined, Garth's new costume, and I think I noticed Ayla's hair a bit longer than usual. I kind of liked it! Like Umbra has recently, it's fun to see when the Legionnaires experiment and change their hair, just as normal people would from day to day.

Thanks for taking the time to interact with the fans. I'm very, very excited for the conclusion now! Are you sure we can't snag you to write a second Legion title alongside Waid and Kitson's relaunch? laugh

YAY!!!!

Though I have serious concerns about the continued Wolverinizing of Timber Wolf, it's worth it for the appearance of a certain young lady!

I'll post more detailed thoughts later!
