In light of recent events with Dave Cockrum, I wouldn't mind seeing a Phil Jimenez or George Perez tribute page with all of the Legionnaires on Shanghalla paying tribute to a statue of Cockrum....they were his kids as much as they were Curt Swan's....

I agree with this wholeheartedly, though I feel Barry Kitson is more than able to do this justice. Or better yet, maybe it should be a joint effort by all the remaining Legion artists.

Of course, the perfect tribute would be the Legion & X-Men paying tribute to Dave on Shanghalla, published in all DC & Marvel issues.

I agree that the X-men should be there as well...I think Barry would do a phenomenal job as well, maybe Didio and Quesada can make this happen...

Let me also say this: anything DC does to commemorate the Legion's 50th Anniversary that only pays tribute to the Silver Age version of the team will sorely disappoint me. As far as I'm concerned, the second 25 years of the Legion was just as important and worthwhile as the first 25 years.

I was thinking with the Shooter rumor that it might be fun to pay homage to the silver age by applying one of the milestone Legion stories to all eras of the Legion.

One thing fans of each of the Legions say is that their Legions didn't have a proper ending. We never knew what happened to them, dangling plotlines etc.

So I'd propose a big story where all the eras would cross over but not in the continuity of each of them.

Instead the Silver Age Adult Legion would cross over/team up with a

1) Levitz Style Legion some time after Magic Wars
2) The TMK Legion some time in the future of their timeline if they hadn't been rebooted.
3) Older Adult Version of the Reboot Legion
4) A potential future version of the Current Legion.

Along the way they can give us nuggets about who lived, who died, who got married, fat, old, bald and wrap up little nagging questions about certain plot lines from all the eras. Having given each of the previous eras a nice send off into the west the Legion could continue into the future.

Now that is what they call a Damn Good Idea. Even without the crossovers: a few stories to put all the characters to bed, and then we can move on with the current run. I like it.

I *so* hope DC and or Marvel decide to publish a pin-up with the Legion and the X-Men (and maybe Ms. Marvel?) on Shanghalla honoring/mourning Dave.

If not, maybe we could commission one? How much would something like that cost?

I'm sure we could all chip in and get one from Barry or even George Perez and then auction it off at whatever gathering we have for the 50th. All the proceeds could go directly to ACTOR.

Speaking of. Does anyone have contact information for George? I think I'll float the idea to him and Barry. Maybe we can get them each to do a small tribute for an auction.

I like the idea of a poster. Something else else big, epic, and spanning the entire history of the team.

I hope the Legion from Action gets their own monthly comic.

I tried to rip their soul out.I tried to make them forget Superman.
But they won't.

well, it's upon us!
the 50th Anniversary of the LSH, the Lightning Saga LSH over in Action Comics, a hit cartoon and spin-off comic, a hot new direction and creative team on the main book... and i haven't seen a single trade ad.
there's been a few Newsarama interviews with Shooter, and a few with "lightning saga" Geoff Johns. has anyone else seen anything else anywhere? have i missed something?
hello? DC editors... Marketing Dept.?

I think DC is waiting for the Legion "big story" for 2008 to kick before doing any marketing. Whether this will be Final Crisis, the "Legion of Three Worlds", or something else remains to be seen. Right now the Legion would be a marketing dept's nightmare. As you mentioned, you have the Lightning Saga Legion, the Legion in their own title, the animated Legion - how do you market those various versions to a new reader?

Take for example, the Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman full page house ads that run occasionally (and are unintentionally humorous for promoting "monthly" comics). If you had space for a one-page house ad featuring the Legion and only a single ad, which Legion do you promote?

I suspect things may really to start ramp in April/May as Countdown ends and Final Crisis launches.

thanks for the dates clarification.
as for the ads, simple...
you can have a big Manapul shot promoting the NEW creative team with little blurb saying also see the LSh in Action, LSH in the 31st Century, and on the WBkids! (with the logos at least.
or...
" the future is 50 years old and looking brighter than ever!"
check out one of DC' oldest and youngest super-teams in 3 different titles and the own cartoon!
it's not that hard. Superman and Batman appear in several titles in many continuities and styles.

The marketing does seem more like an increased trickle (here's some new trades, etc) rather than a coordinated effort.

But if Rich Johnson is to be believed, then DC editorial is in disarray right now. I don't know how reliable he is on this, but the comics seem to be less coordinated at least.

Still, wouldn't we have heard something if DC was planning a new series by now? Or is it too early?

fingers crossed.

I would only want the series if they had the right writer (and artist). More Legion is only worthwhile if it's good Legion. I think we learned that in the reboot...
