Final cover (they went with #12 rather than #1 in the end, it seems, which is probably for the best. Not sure about the logo though): Anyone know when this is actually coming out? It seems to have been delayed, but I can't find when to. [That said, I'm going to have to wait for Amazon US anyway, I suppose - online shops in the UK only seem to be stocking the later & more expensive Titan Books edition]

Just finished re-reading this. Love it. The highlight of the reboot in spite of the many deaths.

hmmm they should have used the Cover for LL 1 instead of 12...after all this gives away too many spoilers w/o meaning too. not that anyone reading it for the first time would realize it.

I disagree. The cover to 12 is way better than the cover to 1.

^ It is a way better cover but I guess a new reader might be wondering 'Hey - why aren't Monstress and Apparition on this cover?' which would obviously be big spoilers for the events of earlier issues.
I wonder how many people picking up this book wouldn't already know those spoilers anyway though? I imagine a book like this would appeal more to niche buyers who are already fans of the team, rather than someone totally new who's just picking this book up on on a whim.

The cover to #1 was a bit of a botched "throw a bunch of separate figures together" job, IIRC though, and it kind of shows it. At least the #12 cover is a coherent piece of art. You miss that this shows Garth with two arms as well!

The publication of the Legion Lost HC inspired me to re-read Legion of the Damned, Legion Lost, Legion Worlds and The Legion vol. whatever-it-is. I must say that my opinion of Olivier Coipel's art has improved a lot since I read those issues for the first time. LoD was indeed a bit scratchy, but still very good. And the art set the tone for the series. The same is true for Legion Lost. By the time The Legion came along Coipel´s art had become outstanding, I think he might be one of my top artists who have ever drawn the Legion (others are Lightle, early Giffen and Kitson). Every Legionnaire looks a bit different: Brainy is small and not particularly muscular, Ultra Boy is a hunk, Apparition is slithe and a bit ethereal (my favorite renditions of those two characters), Saturn Girl is a bit unkempt, Cosmic Boy looks like a boy scout, Mon-el is really, really muscular and Chamaeleon´s antennae reflect his moods. Love it. I also like his design for Kid Quantum´s short hairdo and Triad's uniform (but not Shikari`s).
I also enjoyed DnA's writing a lot, at least at first. This is indeed the highlight of the reboot. Legion Lost is completely character-based and one surprise after another. Legion Worlds is very good, too, and also full of surprises. As for The Legion, well, I absolutely LOVED the first 6 issues (which read much better in one go), but the explanation of Ra´s al-Ghul´s nefarious plan in issue 7 really sucked. Perhaps it is because I am a biologist, and this whole deal about hyperevolution and seed-forms really made no sense to me at all. This actually surprised me coming from big science-fiction fans like DnA are, science-fiction really works best when it is based in, well, science.
That´s where I am right now. Onwards to Robotica...

You nailed it, Doctor One! One of my favorite things about Coipel's art was how Cham's antennae reflected his mood. Another was the different body types he gave each Legionnaire.

I completely agree!
I also loved how they "got" the Legionnaires' personalities, at least up until the Legion 8 or so. Chameleon was the one who befriended everybody; Violet wasn't painfully shy anymore, but she was always softspoken and calm; Brainy had his smug moments but he wasn't too smug; Lyle was a bit of an insufferable genius; Zoe was well-meaning but thoughtless, and so on.

I agree too. Damned, Rifts, Lost, Worlds and the first few issues of The Legion were excellent stuff. The equals of the White Triangle and Chu-Sting storylines from earlier in the Reboot IMO. They're all some of my favourite comics ever.
Which is what makes the depths of dreckitude that DnA sunk to later in their run all the more painful to bear for me. I still just do not get how writers who were SOOOOO good for their first few years on a property could become SOOOOOOO bad for their last couple?
Unless there were things going on behind the scenes (i.e. editorial) that we don't know about.

Unless there were things going on behind the scenes (i.e. editorial) that we don't know about. I'm convinced that Foundations was practically [re]written by Steven Wacker from #26-on. Not only did DnA set up SO many points in #25, then conspicuously drop them, but it was their first arc in the ongoing not to flow out of something in Worlds - and yet, DnA had set up the hooks for a Valor-centric plot in Worlds #1, then we have the Cult of Superboy coming out of nowhere (including not just DnA's own stuff, but the whole postboot). Oh, and they also set up a return to the Magno bit from Worlds #3 in #25 as one of the dropped bits... Be fair though - their ACTUAL last couple of issues (#32-33) were fine!

^ The rot had set in well before #26 for me though. I don't think I enjoyed a single issue of that series after around issue #5. The Ra's al Ghul story was a big let-down for me, the Computo/Robotica sucked on every level as far as I was concerned, I try to never think about that dumb Timber-Wolf-is-too-good-for-the-ENTIRE-Fatal-Five issue ("Think Fast" ), that Great Darkness Saga re-tread (was that Foundations?) was probably the worst story of the entire Reboot... in retrospect, I think it's pretty obvious that DnA had no idea what to do with the large cast of the Legion or an open-ended run on the book. Their only good stories were the ones that focused on a small group of characters over a short duration. I'll always be grateful to DnA for the pleasure they gave me in their first few years... but I'll also always resent them for getting my favourite version of this team cancelled and inflicting on us all the version that shall not be named.

(Grab potentially immortal 20th century villain for use in 30th century storyline.) R'as al-Ghul simply is no Darkseid. He wasn't a credible threat to the Legion, not even with such incredible lame-i-tude as being able to whistle in a frequency that made Durlans convulse. Oh. Such pain. And then there were all those clones and he turned out to not even know what he was doing, or if he was a pawn, and the terrorforms, and hadn't Earth been through enough?, and it really did feel a train-wreck in monthly installments. I did like Shikari and Gear, 'though. Every 'boot' has characters and elements that I like, I just wish they could somehow dredge them from the surrounding morass.

Wow, White Triangle was for me the hit in the nail I needed to quit Legion for good. Probably the worst story I had read since Tom McCraw's destruction of LSH's maturity. The solution to the whole plot was silly to the point of making me feel spoonfed, as far as I remember - never got to read it again, so pardon my memory. Came back just for Threeboot. Apparently, if WT was better than what came afterwards, I did a good thing.

When DnA came on the Legion it was the single most excited I'd ever been for the title in my history of collecting it. And that excitement just kept going for quite awhile.
I may have to reread Damned / Rifts / Lost / Worlds / etc. again!

I never understood why people liked DnA. I think they did a great job building the suspense - but in every single story they wrote, the payoff was a huge letdown. They would always end a story in some extremely contrived and awful way. I hated the stories, because I knew the ending would be unsatisfying. IMHO, of course.

^^Agree completely about DnA's run once The Legion series started, but Legion Lost and especially Legion Worlds were pretty solid.
