Wow! Just read all 10 pages, and issue 4 this past weekend. At age 51 and my duaghter at age 15 we are both happy to see ME Lad go. Now please make sure that BB is not an active memeber also and it conitue to please both of us.
Not sure what is going on with Shady, but it sure looks like an interesting tale to watch/read.
I do like SV's new costume, but I would like to see less blondes! Especially Jeckie and Nura. I don't mind Jeckie's tiara, but I don't like the boob window and the blonde hair.
Would like to see more development of Night Girl, but I'm not in a hurry. I am glad/hoping that XS is still with LSH.
Sodum Yat needs to get over it and get busy.
I hope there was a reason for the whole twins storyline. I didn't see it.
Can't wait to see Timber Wolf in action with claws. Nice upgrade!!
I vote for Mon-el or Sensor Girl for leader.

I'll play Devil's advocate for Sodom Yat for the moment: First, he has lost a lot, ya know? Imagine you were a cop and your whole entire precinct was completely decimated. And there's just you left to carry on. Wouldn't that be kinda rough to deal with? Second, yeesh, are we really so set in our antiquated ideals of masculinity that a dude still ain't allowed to frickin' CRY any more? It's like you are all screamin', " suck it up and stop bein' such a woman, ya big wussy!" Really? Third....the mowhawk....er...........awright, I got nothin'! Grow some friggin' hair, ya big fat wussy!
Still "Lardy" to my friends!

Plus it's been 1000 years. I mean, really, shouldn't he be over it yet? Talk about an emotional marathon-man! I can't have the same feeling for more than thirty minutes before I run out of serotonin! Mon-El spent 1000 years alone, a silent helpless witness to life and death and love and loss, because he had no choice. Saddam has spent the last 1000 years alone because he's *too sad to go meet people.* Did anything happen in those 1000 years where a Daxamite with a Green Lantern ring could have helped? Apparently not, because he just sat around feeling miserable. It's not like he's really 'carrying on' the legacy of the Corps, since he's apparently not left Oa, except for Lo3W, and then immediately returned to his sulking rock. Do they make Prozac for Daxamites? Dude needs some, stat. If this was a Green Lantern book, there might be some relevance to Eeyore and his tale of woe, but it's the Legion of Super-Heroes. He's neither a Legionnaire, nor, for the last 1000 years, a super-hero. All he's doing here is eating up page-space, while actual Legionnaires like Chuck & Lu and Tenzil and Blok & Mysa are getting written out to make space. He's not only deadly dull, but actual Legionnaires are being sidelined so that we can have yet more pages of his pity-party! Argh!

Not really. It would annoy me just as much if it were, say, the average Marvel heroine as written by the young Stan Lee.

All the page-time Yat is getting relative to other characters smells of cross-marketing to me. I hope it does the book some good from a sales perspective, but beyond that my only reaction to anything GL-related is a mix of boredom and annoyance.

'boredom and annoyance' A mild curse, surely. The Chinese curse with, "May you live in interesting times." That seems much more virulent.
And it's only one page, after all, annoying as Yat is. In dotREBELS, Vril is about to have a war/confrontation with the GLs. sigh
What I don't understand is why a world as ancient as OA and beings as old as the Guardians, find a thousand years to be such a big deal?
By doing this, we know that nothing that the current GLs are doing means anything at all. If they were just on Earth, okay, 1000 years might mean a lot sociologially, but a cosmic kind of society? I guess everything comes to an end, but OA seems so vital, as do it's people. When DC brought back the G-women, I thought they'd have children and revitalize the culture and the GLs. Oh, well.
All that said, I kind of find the GL's plight mildly interesting since I like GLs, in general.
Maybe, Yat will realize his time is over and sacrifice himself to bring Rond back, a GL who COULD revitalize the Corps and who's time it is.

It's interesting how much Rond's loss has been lamented among our fandom. I know from the moment I saw him die in L3W, I knew it would be so. It's interesting to see how much he is missed compared to the other supporting characters who died in same: Myg and R.J. Brande. All three were essentially background characters who only had a handful of big moments in their time. Ron and Brande had a long history; Myg, not so much.
I wonder if Rond would have been lamented as much had he never bore the GL ring. Having this power enabled him to have a big, splashy role in the big issue V3, issue 50 throwdown with the Time Trapper. Having the ring also earned him a memorable supporting role in the 5YL. Of course, it also earned him his demise in L3W.
So do we love Rond a lot more because he got the GL ring? Sure, he had some good scenes particularly with Brainy over the years and there's always his memorable roles in some of the Universo stories. But was ultimately getting the GL ring the best thing to ever happen to him as far as his popularity is concerned?
If I'm anywhere near the mark on this, then seeing who will ultimately succeed Rond as a GL in the Legion's future is a pretty worthwhile plot thread. I think following up on that thread, rather than just ignoring it, honors Rond as a character and the impact his death had on the fans and the Legion's story. Beyond it's potential commercial value which I care little about, that's the reason I care about seeing where this storyline goes.

I'd rather see it go wherever it's going with Rond rather than Yat. That's what gets my panties in a bundle.

I always thought Rond's popularity had to do with the ingenuity of a green lantern ring being tied to this supporting character loooooooong before the current ubiquitous Green Lantern tie-ins all over the DCU.

Heck, I haven't even read LO3W. I just liked Rond because he had that cute little jacket and because I always imagined him as the only person who could tear Brainy away from the lab long enough for a beer and a real conversation now and then.
I suppose if anyone could make me give a flying rat's a** about Green Lanterns, it would be him.

Obviously, that preceded the current Green Lantern popularity wave by nearly two decades. But I remember the idea of him being a GL being popular when it appeared. I think the fact that Rond was given a new heroic, proactive role was very appealing to people. Sometimes, there's a backlash when this is done with supporting characters (see numerous Claremont X-Men examples), but I don't ever remember people saying, "Aw, shoot! They're ruining Rond by making him a GL, dammit!" Without the upgrade I doubt Rond would've been significantly above Brande, Circadia Senius, the Academy characters, GiGi Cusimano or countless other supporting characters who made significant and recurring appearances. With the upgrade, however, he has a special place above most of those characters in the hearts of fans. Hence, his death had a powerful effect, and he is sorely missed. Making Rond a GL was really an ingenious move by Paul and Keith, the perfect example of a longtime supporting character making a welcome transition to superhero. Keith and the rest of the 5YL creators were wise to follow-up on it, albeit as a spouse and guest player occasionally. The biggest tragedy of his death in L3W is that we didn't get more stories exploring his adventures and role as a GL. It's actually a shame he was never a Legionnaire.

Rond was killed in 5yl, too. In the fight against Mordru for Mysa, that happened before the Legionnaires arrived. After that terrible tragedy, his daughter and Laurel Gand were introduced.
That was BIG.
It's worse now, because it's happened twice, even though earlier in his life. For me, it was a rather cheap and unoriginal thing for Geoff Johns to do.
Also, Rond was supposed to have died before, I think, although I might still be remembering that wrong.
He was always a quiet, heroic guy with tons of potential. Unfortunately, he looked like Supes and Mon. I however, can enjoy LOTS of guys who look like them, with no problem.
I don't know if the GL ring has anything to do with his popularity. He didn't really have it in many stories, did he? I only remember the one where Brainy went to get him, that is besides the TMK story of his death and then his death in Lo3W. I like him with or without the ring but the ring gives him more possibilities for story inclusion, except, he's dead.
I DO know that Yat is a very poor substitue and using him, a new creation, rather than an old and loved character is something DC does without really thinking about the consequences.
It's like Paul killing Condo and regreting it later. Lack of forethought and imagination.

I could ask Mr. Levitz at Big Apple Con about Rond's child.
I was hoping to ask him about Vi and Ayla (not if they're a couple again or were, but whether or not they can still be attracted to women)

Johns did the same thing in Infinite Crisis. He wrote Tempest telling Dolphin to get their "daughter" to safety. Cerdian's a boy.

Rond was thought to have died during the Universo Project at the hands of his father, because Rond was the only person not subject to Universo's hypnosis powers. The Legion even buried him. It was a twist that Sensor Girl discovers Rond actually survived, and a second twist that his GL ring saved him, him being a Green Lantern of course. Maybe those well written stories about Rond is what makes him more than a secondary Legion character. I always thought Rond should have been made a Legionnaire, with Will Power being his unique ability.

Agreed! Great stories with him always standing against his father's evil.
And a GL ring isn't like any other powersource. Willpower is a wonderful 'unique' ability. Something else else Yat is sorely missing, I'm afraid.

I was hoping to ask him about Vi and Ayla (not if they're a couple again or were, but whether or not they can still be attracted to women) I don't mean this in a rude way, but it's interesting that Archie Comics just had an out gay character debut in their universe. So far as I know, the universe hasn't caved in-- and from what I've seen of the debut, it was well-handled. Does that mean that the Archie-verse is now more mature on the subject of "mature" subject matter than DC is? I really hope that Levitz and the DC brass don't have this idea that at this late date, any of us need to be "protected" from seeing same-sex couples in comics. If I could talk to the guy, I'd want to make that clear. Vi/Ayla to me was always a good thing, even if it's officially still not canon thanks to Editorial's waffling and/or cowardice. I gather that the same thing happened with Reboot IK. They were only allowed to sort of imply that he liked guys, because of Editorial. But if I'm wrong, somebody can correct me. When I think of all the other "modernization" we've seen in comics (and much of it doesn't do anything for me, frankly) it seems more than a little ridiculous that the Legion mythos is still tiptoeing around the idea that sympathetic characters can be canonically GLBT, or what have you.

Actually, Rond was suppised to die, but was saved by one of the creators...not Giffen. He is seen several times after that story, but as a background character...since his ring was destroyed in the battle with Mordru in the rescue Mysa story..

I recall Laurel's crappy, ill-advised death near the end but couldn't recall Rond biting it, too! It's funny, though. Rond was kind of a bad guy/fifth wheel-type in 5YL for me because he stood between Laurel and Brainy ever possibly rekindling their romance. Brainy and Laurel had MAD chemistry during that era!
