New York, October 7, 2010– Beginning January 2011, DC Comics will implement a line-wide pricing adjustment, lowering the prices of all standard length 32-page ongoing comic book titles currently priced at $3.99 to $2.99, it was announced today by DC Comics Co-Publishers Jim Lee and Dan DiDio.
From DC\'s blog. There's a list of titles that includes Adventure & the main Legion Title.

I'm not sure I like that Legion is losing 10 story pages.

Yeah, I didn't mind paying $4 for extra LSH pages. My problem is and always was with paying $4 for the regular number of pages. LSH's huge cast benefits from a bigger comic.

I guess it also means we'll be losing the interior art from Francis Portela. I routinely enjoy his pages more than Cinar's. frown

Comicbookresources has a breaking news item that Marvel has responded to DC and will apparently be rolling back the prices on most of their 3.99 books to 2.99 as well.

It looks like the big players in the industry finally got a clue that their excessive price increases were significantly hurting the market.

I wonder what this means for Adventure. Maybe DC's plans have changed and they will be keeping Legion as the main feature. That would allow the Legion to have 2 titles like most of DC's other teams.

One clear thing - this should mean the end of unnecessary full-page spreads from artists.

^CB, the article about Marvel mentions comics debuting in January or later being launched with the $2.99 price pointing. Absolutely nothing about rolling back existing price points like DC is, at this point at least.

Thanks for the clarification. We should be seeing an official statement tomorrow from Marvel once the New York Comicon is under way.

I did some math.
It currently costs us 13.3 cents per 30 story pages to enjoy our favourite future team once a month. That's a total of $3.99 an issue.
But GUESS WHAT??? DC is "thinking of us fans" and "the Art Form" of comics .... and the "future of readership" but "dropping" the price point down to $2.99 an issue.
Yeah .... ok.
So now, not only am I getting only 20 story pages per month, but it's also going to cost me 15 cents per page!!!
Is DC really saving us money? No. They are actually putting money in their own pockets (SHOCK!).
Not only that but their creative team also catches a break with this new price change (calling it a "price reduction" is false) because it's less work, less stress per month for them. Less pages to put out a month.
And DC still makes a profit.
Nice.

I would rather keep paying 13.3 cents per page if it meant I could have 30 story pages to enjoy of my favourite super-hero team, instead of 20 pages at a higher price.

I'm not happy about losing two pages of story but I do appreciate the lower price.

I just hope that the fewer pages will make writers tighten up their scripts a bit so we don't have any more unnecessarily long, indulgent scenes that drag a story down. I also hope it means artists will be more likely to a) keep a deadline (meaning no more late comics), and b) quit with all those annoying splash pages.

I'll be sorry if this means the end of Portela's run with the Legion though. I too prefer him to Cinar.

It's been my experience that 30 pages = assloads of unnecessary 1 and 2-page splashes, plus meandering storytelling.

The 20 page count will FORCE the writers and artists to tighten their belts and produce better work.

This is a good thing.

If this means the will be getting rid of the "co-features", this is excellent news. I tried them, but recently I did no longer bother to even have a look at them - be it Atom, Liberty Belle or whoever was featured in it. I still paid for them though...

For the Legion the news is not all that good, of course. I also felt that the extra size format did give the story a bigger chance to grow quickly.

In addition, I feel a little bit proud to hear the Marvel news cause I feel a tiny little bit resopnsible for it (together with everybody who dropped the more expensive books like me). The moment the prize raise came, I was out of the Matrvel universe immediately, only keeping 2,99$ X-Factor. Obviously a large enough crowd made the same prudent decision. Kudos, my brothers in arms, this one seems to go to our side smile
