To fill the 5 week gap a bit... (please forgive any inaccuracies due to the fact that I haven't read the Secret Files yet or due to just plain laziness)

WOW! You could just feel the emotions that Ayla has bubbling to the surface.

That was amazing!

These were fantastic -- your "really secret" version is head and shoulders above much of what we actually got in the DC version.

I'd love to see more.

Wish we'd seen these pages in the actual books... about time they actually showed some real emotional connections, as opposed to just saying it happened off-panel. Well done!

So now it's time to get to work on that five YEAR gap. I'll be back in a week to check on progress. lol

Really a fantastic scene. While DnA may have great big scope, you should be put in charge of their humanity.

I do not think I would want a single bit of dialogue on the first page, maybe something in the first panel. No more.

On the second page, I'm guessing Jo and Cham are having second doubts about Jarth, whether to trust him or not.

Great to see some sequentials from you, Drake! Yes, this is the scene many of us would have liked to see. Now I'd be interested to see what turned Ayla off of Garth. Why she prefers to leave him alone now.

(All of your character depictions are right on the money! Great job!)

YEAH! YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH!!!

That's what I'M talkin' about!

Drake, those 6-panel pages were AMAZING. Legion creative team, take NOTE!

That shot of Ayla, stunned and getting out of her seat, was absolutely breathtaking. So alive.

That's so awesome.

Drake, this was absolutely amazing. I've up my mind to just include this in Legion continuity. I love it! More please, if you could, we might need you to start drawing extra pages every month if the stories are thin smile !

Thanks!

Do you have any idea of what direction you want the scripting to go? I wouldn't mind trying my hand at it, actually...

I'd love to see KP's dialogue on the scene. It would be great to get a collaboration going!

Excellent artwork, Drake!

Firstly, thanks to all for the nice words -- as a fan, this was the scene I wanted to see as well!

I don't know about the script, KP -- I just wanted to show two different reactions to "Jarth" -- Ayla's joy (and trepidation) and the following page with those from the "Lost" crew that I thought might have the biggest problem with Jarth's appearance since they actually saw and experienced "evil Jan" I figured they'd have the hardest time accepting him: (there's also that recurring "conspiracy" tradition where there's a group of Legionnaires with their own agenda)

-- KidQ as leader and friend of not only Monstress but of Jan would be concerned about unanswered questions.
-- Shikari and her people's history with the Progenitor.
-- Cham cuz of his reaction in "Lost #12" (he was enraged and ready to kill Jan) and his protective feelings for Ayla.
-- Jo cuz of his background I see him as slightly jaded.
-- Wildfire cuz I thought he'd look cool in the shadows smile ... and also partly because of Shikari.

Drake, the two pages are amazing. Now we have two artists who had better try out for the next round of Comic Book Idol. Hell, I'll sponsor you and Dean both.

Well, I don't know if this conveys exactly the emotions you're going for, Drake, but here's what I came up with.

Page 1, Panel 1:

Cosmic Boy: “They’re ready for us to go in now. Don’t be nervous, pal.”
Saturn Girl: “Garth??”

Panel 2:

Silence.

Panel 3:

Kid Quantum: “That about wraps it up, folks. Those of you on assignment to the Kwai galaxy should report to the threshold chamber by…”

Panel 4:

Invisible Kid: “Incredible.”
Ultra Boy: “I don’t sprocking believe it.”
Kid Quantum: “Oh my gods.”

Panel 5:

Spark: “G-garth?”
Live Wire : “Ayla.”

Panel 6:

Silence.

Page 2, Panel 1:

Live Wire: “…and that’s all I can remember. The very next thing , there I was on Trom.”
Spark: “And in Jan’s body.”
Garth: “I… I guess.”

Panel 2:

Chameleon: “Saturn Girl says he checks out.”
Ultra Boy: “I know, Cham. She could also be seeing what she wants to see, y’know?”

Panel 3:

Chameleon: “You mean like with you and Tinya in the Kwai galaxy?”
Ultra Boy: “…yeah.”

Panel 4:

Ultra Boy: “I mean, I want to believe, man…”
Chameleon: “Look at Ayla. She hasn’t smiled like that since… well, before we were lost.”

Panel 5:

Wildfire: “And if that’s the sprocking Progenitor? We’re in for a world of nass, guys.”
Chameleon: “You don’t know that, Wildfire.”

Panel 6:

Kid Quantum: “Exactly. None of us know what we’re dealing with here. That’s why I need you to keep your eyes open over in the other galaxy, Cham. We need some answers."

Drake, Kid Prime, thank you both for providing me with my favorite Legion moment since this series began. In just a few lines and pictures you have conveyed a sense of how a number of Legionnaires would react. It's been three issues now, (counting the Secret Files) and I still don't know how ANY of the Legionnaires (Saturn Girl included) feel about Jarth. Like Cobalt Kid, I have decided to consider this part of regular continuity.

Thanks KP! Along with Drake, you've just made me feel better abgout Jarth appearing smile .

Yup Super Lad Kid, this is in continuity as far as I'm concerned smile ! Levitz and even Giffen would have at least had a few panels to show this...

Drake, this was excellent. I really thought I was looking at spoilers for a moment...flashbacks to be seen in the next issue or something. Someone mentioned that you were "right on the money" with the character depictions...they weren't kidding! The look of disbelief on Ayla's face before she collasped in her "Brother's" arms. Jo and Cham lurking in the background with looks of apprehension (well Jo anyway). No dialogue was needed, none at all!!! Great stuff!!!

Thanks for this Drake!

It's the story we should have seen. Not in the Secret Files, but in the book itself.

Awesome art as always!

I've looked at this about half a dozen times now. The scene with Ayla and Jarth hugging is so much more realistic of what would happen if a dead loved one were suddenly to appear. Not "He likes to be alone so we'll just fly around him."

I would have accepted the whole Jarth subplot much more easily if a page or two like these were included in any of the recent issues.

*Sigh* I guess I'm just getting a bit frustrated with the current writing. They're not the only ones to seem to gloss over an issue like this, though. I was always annoyed with the way Levitz brought "Lyle Norg" back from the dead, but Jacques was the only one who ever talked to him.

Hey, KP -- brilliant job! I especially liked the bit about Jo and Cham discussing Imra and the nod to Cham's mission to the Kwai galaxy. Nice continuity there wink
