According to "The Puzzle from Planet X", from Strange Adventures #72, in the spring of 1958 a rogue band of criminals from the super-hot world of Thar landed on Earth and tried to conquer it by setting off all of Earth's volcanoes. Fortunately, we were saved by a message sent by the good Tharians.
This story was written by Edmond Hamilton, who a few years later would use the name "Tharr" when he introduced us to the homeworld of reader-created character Polar Boy.
Hamilton had previously used the name "Thar" for a "super-scientific" world a couple of issues earlier!

I suppose that its not too far fetched to imagine that if the bad Tharians' plot had panned out, they probably would have gleefully shouted out, "Thar she blows!" 
If the meek shall inherit inherit the Earth, then I at least want Baffin Island - and a property manager to work for me who is made of sterner stuff than I.

Maybe that's why they rejected Polar Boy - they discovered his father was one of the band of criminals.
