Fabien said over on the DCU boards that the Lost won't be ALLOWED off Earth and this may be a source of conflict down the line. Supposedly whatever it is they are carrying with them will get them the cold shoulder all around.

Something else else would have to limit Gates and his powers, since lately he's been able to zip himself and others to different planets, unless it's some sort of political edict where he chooses or is compelled not to leave.

I would LOVE to see a guest appearance by the REBELS, particularly Wildstar and see what reaction Wildfire and Dawnstar would have.

Fabian mentions on his Q&A that Gates will be limited. He avoided stating whether that would be an intrinsic limitation (re- defined power set) or a result of external factors. Maybe they're quarantined? He appeared to choose his words with some care.
Whaddya mean I'm out of continuity?

Well, the characters and the stuck-in-the-21st-century bit seem to have been decisions by editorial staff. I wonder if they have more specific plans for these legionnaires.

So, er... While the present-time DC books are all starting up as if the characters in them had only been heroes for five years, that's not the case so far as the Legion book goes?

Actually it's the first time it's made sense. Every other time something happened in the 20th/21st century and somehow SUDDENLY had effects 1000 years later, that was weird. I never understood why the red skies of the Crisis on Infinite Earths (not a time-based crisis IIRC) should be taking place in the Legion's time period, or why Laurel Kent had to be sacrificed to a crossover which occurred ten centuries earlier.
Compressing time for all characters that are contemporary with each other is necessary (and exactly what they neglected to do after Crisis), but there's no reason it should make a difference in current legion stories whether Superman appeared in 1938, 1985, or 2006. It's all over a millennium ago for them.
So given the LSH has been through so many readjustments of every kind, and the last being of course only 14 months ago, thank heaven someone had the sense to let this one go by with only a renumbering.

The red skies and white walls appeared in all times supposedly. They appeared in Anthro's time and during the second world war. Where it got silly was why didn't they appear when Superman was Superboy or six months before they appeared.... or when Superboy waas just joining the Legion in the 30th century rather than at the precise time that Legion stories were up to. As for Laurel, I suspect that Paul Levitz was happy to ditch her for a company-wide edict. It's all over a millennium ago for them. When Superman appeared is, as you rightly say, irrelevant to the Legion but his history (ie was he ever with the Legion) isn't. The danger is that Flashpoint, like CoIE and Man of Steel before it, will affect the backstory of Superman and Supergirl and this will have repercussions on Legion down the line

I'll have to wait and see what the age compression idea will have on the Legion. However, I was encouraged by what Levitz said in the interview about shifting concentration in the Legion onto many of the younger faces with older Legionnaires going on with their lives and only being seen from time to time. At least, that's what I got from his words.
It also shows that the Legion Academy stories were more of a planned intro into what's happening next, as was Paul's reintroduction of Tyroc, really. Sort of dusting him off for extended further use.
It also gives us a little insight into Johns keeping Gates. This whole thing might have been in the works for a number of years.
If that's true, than I'm looking forward to what's been planned.
A singin' and a dancin' along the way.

He had originally planned to work the Legion into his All-Star Superman but ran out of runway (I don't think he counted on three issues of Bizzarro), so he obviously likes the concept. Hopefully this means the Superboy & The Legion stuff is left in the quasi-canonical state its in.
