It seems as though just about everyone liked Legion of Super-Heroes #1. This is very unusual. In my ten or more years of experience with Legion fandom, I can't remember any other issue that provoked a similar reaction. Generally, every story tends to divide the fandom, with some people loving it and others hating it. If there's a broad fan consensus about a Legion story, then the consensus is usually that no one liked the story (v5 #50 is a recent example of this).
So when was the last time that everyone was united in liking a particular Legion story? Has that ever happened before?

I'm tempted to say Adventure 247. I think The Great Darkness Saga is a story that has overwhelming approval as a great Legion story that everybody likes.

Yeah, I think you'd be hard-pressed to find a Legion fan who didn't like GDS.
For what it's worth, Waid's first issue got fairly positive reviews as well.

Yeah, I think Waid's first issue was pretty universally well-received, even by those who disagreed with the decision for a "Threeboot". I remember a general feeling of excitement for all things Legion. It wasn't too long before the bloom was off the rose though...

Waid's first hadnful of issues were good for me, but yeah... I'm pretty sure the shark jumped that series around Dream Girl's death if not sooner... or the series jumped the shark... whichever, it went into the crapper quickly.

I think for me the cracks in the armor of the almightly Legion was after The Sensor Girl Mystery but before Magic Wars.
I liked the reboot because I got to be on the "ground floor" and we got to have Lyle and Condo. Of course, Kinetix Gates and XS are also all favotites
I hated Waids stuff from day 1

I think The Great Darkness Saga is a story that has overwhelming approval as a great Legion story that everybody likes. Oh, yeah. I like it fine, but I admit that some of the less "cosmic" stories are more meaningful to me. That's the case with pretty much every comic, actually.

My impression was that the fandom was strongly divided about Waid and Kitson's first issue. I specifically remember a review that began "I hated, hated, hated this comic!", and I remember that lots of people violently disliked the kids-versus-adults angle, or the idea of another reboot, or both. I personally loved Waid and Kitson's Legion, but I never thought that there was a strong consensus in support of it.

Just judging from our review thread here , at least from the first few pages it looks like people were pretty enthusiastic.

I also remember some strong negatives on Waids first issue. DnA's Legion #1? I know Legion of the Damned was more positive but it wasn't across the board because of Copiel's early art.
Earlier than this? Maybe as far back as pre-Crisis?

This is such a huge question to answer for any of us I bet. I would probably say one issue, then completely change my mind an hour later.... then again tomorrow, next week, oh yeah and I almost forgot about THAT issue back in the 80's, and so on. There have been far too many good ones to single one out as a fave, for me. I think I will just keep my trap shut on this one. Ah what the heck ... The Great Darkness Saga! There... NOW BRING BACK DREAM GIRL DAMMIT!!!!!!!!!

Issue 38 of the Baxter run was a huge hit for me. I love new characters and tryouts and all that jazz. Lightle's art is gorgeous, and the story was full of fun stuff.

Issue 38 of the Baxter run was the death of Superboy.
I think you meant 14.

Ah, silly me, I might be confusing it with the Legion tryouts in Shooter's run on the Threeboot (which may or may not have been 38, but that number's stuck in my head, and I'm gonna apply it to everything until I'm right, darnit!).
