See, Imra loved Garth... but the original Garth was a hothead and a dangerous choice at best for a love interest.
Then along came Proty reanimating Garth's dead body with his... "e-word" and whatnot.
So, Imra got the body she craved with a sweeter disposition that was now an all-around excellent choice for a love interest.
For me, the whole scenario completely humanized our miss Imra Ardeen Ranzz. i always thought she kinda suspected but maybe just thought you know, dying, mellows you out. and by the time she knew for sure she had fallen into a deeper love with proty garth. and then had kids and stuff. and hot head garth was dead anyways. and i dont think she boinked t-wolf, she almost kissed him. cause they're both smokin hot .... i'm sure the other legionnaires could understand.

I thought the ponytail made more sense than wearing her hair loose--she'd want it minimal-maintenance and out of the way. I'm not crazy about the short hair, but it does fit her personality.
How about flying out to fight the Persuader while nine months pregnant with twins?
And Black Canary's been around longer, but again, her early adventures have been retconned as her mother's.

I liked the threeboot hair, all pinned up carelessly and out of the way, as if she could give a rat's patootie what other people thought of her hair. It kind of fit the notion of her being from a world of telepaths, who would be far more concerned with the inner person, than how many hours they spent arranging the stuff on their head.

Saturn Girl guest starring in BOP is a natural fit Rhino and MUST happen! Sometimes needs to give Gail the lowdown on Imra's importance in comic history as a strong female!

What a great idea this is! And it's making my imagination run wild now... Wouldn't it be so cool (and unprecedented so far ... well except for Karate Kid in the 70's, but he was the star of his own series) if one of our lovely Legion ladies travelled back in time, even for a short period of time, and joined the gals in Birds Of Prey? Not Saturn Girl pers se but perhaps someone else who might not necessarily receive the same amount of exposure as SG might in their regular series. Say someone like XS? Their own personal speedster right at their fingertips. My personal recommendation would be for Dream Girl. A low-key but powerful in its own way power combined with the raw charisma that Nura exudes naturally. She'd have them all eating out of her hand in no time (including her cohorts!). Or wait, even better, how about Duplicate Damsel? Hey Babs, need someone to be in 50 different places in the city all at once? No problem .... Luuuu-uuuuuuuuu???????

It was great to see Imra & Garth sharing affection in #3. When she telepathically brings Garth up to date on what is happening with the twins with just a touch & he responds, "Got it." was a great moment.

It almost felt like when Garth is around Imra, he becomes more heroic; like he strives to be the better man Imra knows he is.
It's the first time in awhile that the two of them together felt right on all levels.

For me, the whole scenario completely humanized our miss Imra Ardeen Ranzz wasnt all this garth is proty business: 1) a theory among some in legion fandom (not the original writers of the story. 2) not actually true at all till post issue 4 (&5) of the glorithverse (kinda like Laurel Gand being a longtime member for the longest time and Kid Q 1). 3) didn't Garth come back during that flash of light after Infinte Man got absorbed by Glorith and Mordru that changed a lot of the legionnaires (and restored Ayla back to adulthood) after all i would think he would have had too...since that would have made the last scene of the 3(6) founders holding hands less poigiant and the fact no one brought it up there... 4) was garth really a hot head? because he seemed to be in that moby dick (heh i said moby dick) of space story but he really wasn't.

Every Legionnaire has an incident or two in their past where they could be called a hothead, if it served the needs of a particular story. This was particularly common back in the '60s and '70s, when Superman and Batman themselves changed characterization from issue to issue, depending on what the 'shocking event' on the cover was. (Hence the point of the entire superdickery.com site.) Rokk has slapped more women than Hank Pym, and yet he's not a 'wife-beater.' Silver Age stories, IMO, are fun, but should be taken with a grain of salt as any sort of precedent for characterization, lest we be stuck with a Princess Projectra whose first reaction to a combat situation is *fainting.* As of the previous Levitz run, Garth is not only not a hothead, he was low-key, and was a bit overwhelmed by the joint demands of leadership, marriage and parenthood, appearing more burned-out by the situation than the hothead we saw on the cartoon. I *liked* cartoon Garth, hothead that he was, and felt that he added an interesting dynamic to a team that had no Drake (and had Brin in a more Drake-ish 'angsting over his condition' role and less of an anger-management role) just as I *like* Vril Dox, but neither of them should have been personality-transplanted onto their originals, IMO. This team is not the cartoon team, and Garth as a hothead isn't needed. The team has people to fill that dynamic already, such post-kidnapping Violet.

Garth was only retroactively said to be a hothead so that his personality could be distinguished from Proty/Garth.

So, it's occuring to me that I've enjoyed the issue 1 presentation of Imra, away from Garth, and enjoyed the dynamic between Garth and Ayla, away from Imra, and this has gotten me thinking that it isn't the Founders + Brainy quad that I dislike, it's how much it limits the characters, having them always together, repeating the same old dynamics with each other.
I bet cash money that I'd like Imra, Garth, Rokk and Querl more if they stayed the hell away from each other, and we saw more of them interacting with *other* Legionnaires, rather than repeat the same interactions we've seen between Garth & Imra and Garth & Rokk and Brainy & Rokk so much recently.
More of Imra interacting with Cham and Rokk interacting with Gim, and Garth & Ayla, etc. would, I think, make the Founders + Brainy square dance seem a little less inbred.

The worst thing that happened to cartoon Garth was the presence of Super-clone in S2, which overbalanced the level of "hothead" on the team. There was much to like in S2 but the presence of Superman X was not one of those things. [slaps the marketers with a big fish]
