I bet he wont be green for most of the episode (because he has to hide his alieness from the humans) but I hope to God they do a flashback or something where he's green with a purple costume! smile

Oh yeah, that too. He better be blond! He wouldn't be our Brainy if he wasn't.
smile
I just hope they don't dye his hair that awful platinum blond (Spike) colour again. Yuck!

Not green. Not blond. Not Querl.

I loved his blond hair as Spike!

I hadn't watched this show in years. Now I remember why. It's pretty lame and WAY over dramatized. All the long dramatic pauses and drawn out unrequited love angst are so over done. Put the show out of its misery already.

The show started with Clark in high school. Now he's going to his high school reunion. I think that pretty much shows that the show's gone on a little too long.

Nope.

But it's an alternate reality, for goodness sake.
It NEVER claimed to be anything else, much like 'Lois and Clark' and the original Superman series all those long years ago.

I loved this episode!
Loved that this was the 5th addition of Brainy and he was an older version, like the original in the 'Smallville' series.
Loved the Christmas past, present and future play on images.
Loved that the last one (future) was real.
Loved the CS on the phone screen.

I love that they're winding up the years of Kal's earlier years and moving him into his Superman era without all the silliness of the 'Superboy' costume, etc..

I'm sad that ya'll couldn't enjoy the show for what it was and is.

Have I loved everything that the show did?
No.
But I haven't loved everything that the Legion/Superboy/Superman COMICS have done either.

I don't know what on Earth made any of you think that any of these characters stayed in high school or didn't age or had to follow a storyline totally, that we've already seen, adnauseum?
I love the Elseworld stories, which this is one of.

Anyway, is it perfect?
No.
But, a lot of it was fun and Tom Welling is how I see Supes now, period.

From a 'Legion' point of view it was a little disapointing. However, as someone that has watched this usually dreadful show off-and-on, it was great to see Brainiac 5 tell 'Kal-El' to stop moping and get on with being a hero. If only this had happened 9 seasons ago.... smile

Thank you, I am Legion! I'm so tired of Clark's moping around, whining about why he can't be with Lana/Lois. That's why I stopped watching it years ago. I do wish I would've seen the episodes with Kara though.

Kara said the exact same thing as Brainiac 5 last episode. 'Kal-El instead of trying to force the noise out, why don't you just focus on one thing? Like that butterfly. Live inside that one noise, make it your whole world.' Clark never listens to her because he ultimately thinks he's right about everything. Its kind of sad that SUPERMAN can't place that much importance in the little-st lifeform. How Smallville to make it all about his hormones.

I think Clark has treated Kara pretty badly throughout so I guess it was accurate to the source material.

I was also disappointed with this episode from a Legion standpoint, because I was hoping it was going to be the sentient Querl that appeared as Brainiac 5, not some cartoon series morph/robotic knock-off. I guess they had established the Brainiac character as a robot construct at the beginning so they had to maintain that, instead of delving into the whole Querl/Colu/descendant thing. Way to much explaining there for the viewers to make that happen!
I guess Smallville creators were fans of the Legion cartoon? That's a compliment I suppose.

Anyways, like Candle said, it was great within the confines of its own little universe.
Just not what I was hoping for in terms of a continuation from the whole Legion founders story arc from a couple of seasons ago.

It was still a nice little episode though!

Actually you still can ... just go to YouTube and you can watch this episode in 3 - 10 minute parts.
Type in 'Smallville season 10 Kara' for the search.

personally, i thought brainy was too understanding of human nature. then again i haven't seen all of Smallville so i don't know how the previous Brainiac's were, but he was all getting emotions and things of that such nature that i used to him not getting. But over all cant say he was bad i like James Marsters and the first few seconds of his reintroduction seamed very Querl like. he was only in the show for a grand total of maybe 5,6 minutes, it was nice to see in a throw away line that he brought the legion to a whole new era of heroism cause Brainiac 5 so took the legion up a level by being their many sue .

and my tiny nit pick..the legion doesn't using there there rings as time travel devices..i dont like that

Brainiac was never really a 'robot' in Smallville, I think.
He was a computer 'construct', sort of like Gear, I imagine, a step up (or down) from Data, an android.
We didn't see any other Brainiacs between the first and 5, either, not unless they included his download into Lana's computer system and then Chloe or something.

I took it that the Brainy 5 that we saw was the current version as tooled by the Legion, something Garth had said that they'd use the data stream remains that were pulled out of Chloe.

I think that Kal has learned a lot in the last few years, actually.
I get frustrated with him and the whining but I probably whine more than I'm aware of, too.
I like that he's growing out of the 'hormones' now, and stablizing emotionally as an adult.
I also like that he's been shown by a number of sources, that he's been unforgiving of himself and others, arrogantly so.

I hope that the network will end 'Smallville' and begin a new chapter on Superman using the same characters/actors/universe.

I'd love to see more of Mrs. Kent as the White Queen, Perry White, the Justice League/Society, Lana's life as a Guardian type, Chloe as Doctor Fate or whatever, and lots of other things.

I'd also like DC and CW to work something out with the Batman and Wonder Woman estates so that those two characters can become a part of this continuum, too.

One can dream, anyway.

A season or so ago, Clark ran into Kara in the Zone, and she had these cool scalp-lock looking braids among the rest of her hair. She looked very distinctive and cool.

And she's back to the boring look. This show is so frustrating sometimes. They are afraid of going too far from the 'iconic', but veer far enough away that it's never quite satisfying to the comic book fan in me. It's either annoyingly 'not quite right' or 'not different enough to get excited about.'

The show still suffers from the fact that he's just too darn powerful. The only way he can't solve half the world's problems before breakfast (and all of the story plots thrown at him, effortlessly) is if he sits around and whines about stuff, making empty promises that 'I won't allow that to happen!' and then does nothing for 15 episodes while everything goes to hell around him.

The only way the writers seem to be able to make 'drama' is for Clark to be;

A) an emo twit, too wrapped up in his own romantic drama / daddy issues to notice that Zod / Lex / Jor-El / whomever has lied to him for the seventeeth time (and he fell for it, again),

B) too stupid / clueless to actually use his powers.

The last two episodes have slapped him in the face with the idea that he won't ever be a hero as long as he keeps refusing to actually be a hero.

Much like the show Heroes, the writers seem to epically fall down when writing a story based around a dude with super-powers, since his main tactic seems to be 'standing around with fists clenched, with a determined look, promising to stop something from happening, before forgetting about it and letting it happen anyway...'

Dumbass. He never learns. "Oh, I can't tell Lois, because she's totally hot for the Blur, and remember how awful it was when I didn't tell Lana for *years* 'to protect her' and she kept getting attacked by the monster of the week every single Thursday anyway, and then she found out, and we had amazing earth-shaking sex, and it was totally cool, and it was so much easier to protect her without having to hide what I was doing or knock her unconscious everytime? Yeah. Can't risk that happening again..."

I have an English degree LOL.
The chances of WB even reading unsolicited scripts is low. If there was a chance they would take it a little seriously I would start it right now.

In a stunning display of how expectations can affect perception:

I *loved* the Brainiac 5 episode, but I think that relied heavily on the fact that(being a bit busy/out of it of late), I didn't know he was going to be on it!

When he revealed himself to be B5, I was quite pleasantly surprised and excited.

However, had I known AHEAD of time that there was going to be a B5 appearance, I probably would have been disappointed at his lack of green-ness and the relative lack of Legion mention.

I also would have enjoyed the episode quite much on its own merits if, say, it had been some other character who was his guide (e.g. the ghost of Charles Dickens would have been hilarious.)

Then again, like Candle and a few others, I am a big fan of the show. YES, there are times when the drama gets way too drawn out, sometimes I think just so they can extend the plot threads to last a whole season, and sometimes it is WAY too melodramatic...but it is fiction. Realism is, if not boring, at least commonplace (we get it everyday), and I'm sure anyone of you who has had to defend your love of comics/sci-fi against claims that it is "stupid" because of its lack of realism are familiar with the arguments that its very usurping of everyday reality is what makes it exciting and fun. That can be true of drama as well, it takes a nugget of life and makes it more than it would normally be.

Anyway, it IS in its last season, so those of you saying they should put it out of its misery will soon have your wish.

As a Legion fan, it would have been all worth it just for the Legion episode (from season 9), even if I couldn't stand the rest of the show.
