I know folks in the States don't have it yet, but:

That. Was. Great.

I think I liked it better than LSH #1. Teenagers acting like teenagers (and not jerk teenagers from threeboot), The Legion being "new", but still with the obvious seeds of where their personalities are going. Clark being a young Clark (moreso than in Secret Origin). Paul hit this one out of the park.

Even the Twilght-baseball thing worked for me.

With the possible exception of Superboy's Legion, this was the best Superboy-and-the-Legion story ever. It's the perfect encapsulation of Superboy's relationship with the Legionnaires.

A fun tale, but what was up with Brande's stilted syntax?

I was confused by that too, but I think he was supposed to be speaking with a Durlan speech pattern. I vaguely remember other Durlans using that type of syntax in v2 #301.

The speech pattern threw me off as well, in fact I read his lines twice and then just ignored it.

As for this issue, it was cute and I really enjoyed it, a fun light hearted tale (even with the random retcon of Saturn Girl being an orphan).

Still someone needs to teach Paul a bit about baseball, you don't have to tag the runner out on that play you just have to beat him to the bag, still I loved the use of Invisible Kid in that scene.

That said, I hope this art team isn't staying on the book. The art to me was just serviceable, but not what I want to be seeing month in and month out.

Levitz said on his Facebook page that he was wrong about Saturn Girl being an orphan. He misremembered the cover of Adventure Comics #356 (The Five Legion Orphans) and thought Saturn Girl appeared in that story instead of Dream Girl.

So Saturn Girl being an orphan is not a retcon, just a mistake, and we can safely ignore it.

I just read it and it was a very good first issue for Levitz's take on the young Legion.

I too thought Brande's speach was a bit hokey but I think Paul is trying to establish his exoticness to the readers (he obviously didn't grow up on Earth), plus we all know his speach improves over the years, thus giving the book a more authentic feel to it.

Superboy was his naive best, what with all the Legion girls swooning over him ... lucky boy!
The Legionnaires acted like kids and I found that to be refreshing, especially knowing that as their older selves they are in for quite an interesting time over in their regular book. The story was light, and the dynamics between Clark and the Legion were quite believable in my opinion. Just what you would expect would be the real verbal exchange for the getting-to-know-you-guys-better early stage in the Superboy/Legion's past. Thank you Mr. Levitz for handelling both first issues of your new writing titles with enough diversity as to clearly set them apart. I like it.

Now I can't wait until next issue so we can see what this "and the real story of how the Legion was founded" is all about.

Haven't read it yet, and may not get it until next month, but damn. Two Legion books a month. And Legion #1 goes to a 2nd printing.

...but you don't have a moment where you're sitting there staring at a table full of twenty-five characters with little name signs that say, "Hi, my superpower is confusing you!"

enjoyable story though a couple of things were confusing: RJ Brande's speach pattern and Garth and Imra's relationship. For a married woman she was awful flirty.

So what.

This story is a flashback to before Garth and Imra were married.

The confusing thing was that they listed her name as Imra Ardeen-Ranzz instead of just Imra Ranzz. This story definitely took place years before their marriage. There only appear to be the first "10" members at this point.

Otherwise, it was a fantastic story, and I look forward to many more of both Legion books!!

Oh, and the alternate cover, a bit of a homage to the Great Darkness Saga cover (LSH 294 IIRC) was pretty cool. Cost me $10 from my CBS. They only got 3 copies of it. I believe it was a 25 to 1 variant for DC's 75th anniversary.

I found another mistake in this issue.

Superboy is from the 20th century and the Legion is from the 31st.

I suspect Paul just thought "Superboy's in the past, and it was still 20th century back then even by comic book time" without realizing that since the Legion is normally separated by 1000 years, the same reasoning applies to them and they should be in the 30th. The *modern* Legion is from the 31st century, but this isn't the modern Legion, it's the Adventure-era Legion.

Having been underwhelmed by LSH v.6 #1, I was pleasantly surprised by this issue. What a wonderful story! Now I'm more confident that Levitz will eventually find his footing on v.6.

So are Saturn Girl and Lightning Lad married in #12 or not? Is it a recon or poor editing?

The cover is posted a couple of places.
I think I posted it on the August solicitations thread and I got it from somewhere else here earlier but couldn't seem to find it again.
(edit: here, I'll just add it here for you):
[Linked Image]

Imra's maiden name is Ardeen, not Ranzz.

I liked the story, even with the mistakes.
The early innocence, relative low tech (except for the rings rather than jet packs) and lack of tons of ultra evil, murdering badguys was refreshing but almost so unfamiliar I had to get used to it again!

I wonder how the other guys feel about the three Legion gals all intent on smooching Kal?

Is Vi the next girl to join?
Ayla doesn't join until after Garth dies.
He was still revived by Proty, right?
Was Lar revived by Eltro, still?

So, in the end, we still have Proty-Garth and Eltro-Lar?

Just teasing, sort of.

Duh, of course. That's what I meant. My hands must not have been listening to what my brain was thinking...

Thanks for the catch Candle!

You know, this story was a pleasant surprise! I thought it was a really great Legion/Superboy story and if this is what Paul's run on Adventure will be like, I'm really looking forward to it!

It also made me realize DC is just missing the boat in a huge way by not having a Superboy series for Superman when he was a boy. I'd love to see more of that, including adventures with the Legion. I hope that's what Adventure stays (since we have no indication if Superboy & the Legion will still be the lead following Paul's story).
