Yes, there is, as odd at it seems. Johns was mentionning in an interview on Wednesday the fact that they didn't know what the Countdown team was preparing with Karate Kid and all.

Well, that could explain the ambiguous gender of the character, if they didn't even know who it was when they wrote that scene in the Crossover!

Was anyone else excited when Starman mentioned XS in this month's JSA? Jenni is one of my favorite Legion characters, so I hope this means we'll get to see her sometime.

I haven't seen that issue yet, but it's intereting ... I wonder how far this "retcon" is going to go?

Did anyone else notice that when Superman was telling the JLA and JSA about Star Boy being expelled from the Legion, he neglected to mention that Thom was later reinstated? A curious omission.

I tend to think anyone reading that scene who didn't know anything about Star Boy's history with the Legion would've concluded that Superman was unaware of Star Boy rejoining before Crisis.

Whether that's supposed to be a clue to a continuity difference or just a misleadingly written scene... who knows?

Anyone who didn't know Star Boy's history with the Legion would likely conclude that he wasn't reinstated.

But what are longtime fans supposed to think?

Here's what we know:

1. Superman was a member of the Legion in his youth.

2. Superman lost contact with the Legion after "the first Crisis."

3. Superman knew of Star Boy's expulsion but was unaware (or didn't think it worth mentioning) that he had been reinstated.

4. Star Boy was expelled for killing Kenz Nuhor (as in the original continuity).

5. Star Boy/man in this reality suffers from schizophrenia, which is managed by 31st century medicine but not outright cured.

6. Starman is still haunted by killing Nuhor.

7. Starman mentions XS (again, I haven't read the issue, so I don't know the context).

Some possible conclusions:

A. Star Boy was readmitted into the Legion after Superman lost contact with them.

B. Star Boy was never readmitted into the Legion (which means that Dream Girl rejoined under somewhat different circumstances).

C. Star Boy was readmitted but it was kept low key; perhaps his reinstatement was even kept from Superman for unknown reasons.

D. Star Boy's schizophrenia is to blame for the killing of Kenz Nuhor (a totally illogical conclusion, but one that must be considered: Why else would the one Legionnaire who killed be revealed to have a mental disorder?).

E. Star Boy suffered from guilt so much over killing Nuhor that it led to the onset or exacerbation of his disorder (also not logical, but I feel they're tied together somehow).

F. Starman comes from a reality that diverges so much from past continuity that XS was a member of this Legion.

G. Starman is somehow aware of multiple timelines, incuding ones wherein XS is a member of the Legion.

All of this is just speculation, of course, but so far, I don't like the implications of this story line, even though the story itself was well done.

I think the meeting with XS is pretty clearly a reference to the untold "Legion of Three Worlds" storyline.

As for the Star Boy's membership, this story is really chock full of things that can be interpreted as clues as to huge continuity divergences between this version of the Legion and the "original". In fact, it seemed to me when I was reading the story that they were going out of their way to point out significant differences between these versions of the characters and the originals. The Star Boy stuff is probably the most blatant.

My advice is to wallow in the nostalgia as long as you can and don't think about this stuff too much, or else you're liable to end up as cynical about the whole thing as I am. smile

Nostalgia isn't even all it's cracked up to be, as I've learned in doing my review threads.

But thinking about it part of what makes it so fun. wink

G. Starman is somehow aware of multiple timelines, incuding ones wherein XS is a member of the Legion.

This has been pretty well established through some of Thom's off the wall comments and those of some Legionnaires and JSA/JLA members during the Lightning Saga. It has been stated that instead of traveling to the present day time like the other Legionnaires, Thom was somehow bounced around multiple continuums, imcluding "Kingdom Come" and others. This being the case, it would make sense that he would be aware of Legionnaires from other continuities such as XS.

Thom is the key to all of this and the clues are in his offhand comments.

Una is better than being called "Single Girl". She'd be hit on by every male sentient she encountered!!!

Besides, if she is the preboot Lu, she wouldn't be single anyway, she was married to Chuck.

She could team up with X-Bomb Betty. They could be the Una-Bomber!

Or if she teamed up with Reep, maybe they could be known as Una-Form.

Or with Ronn Karr, they could be known as Una-lateral

(These are a bit of a stretch, sorry)

So now back to Luornu (I don't care for XS at all):

Am I the only one who thought that the Luornu appearing in Countdown was the DEAD third body killed by Computo? It' been some time since I read Adventure and Baxter series, but with Karate Kid being officially deceased, my first feeling was that the dead body of Triplicate Girl was next (inmplicating a return of Chemical King as well :-) ).

Now all of you were quite certain that this Luornu is the Baxter one after the second body died... how could you be so sure? Something else else about the colors?

I'm not certain about anything of the kind; I never assume that anything to do with the 2x+unboot Legion is the same as it was for the original Legion. It might be, of course. But I'll let the details come out in the story.
