Has that story made *any* sense since Zero Hour, anyway? Given that it was, you know, tied to a continuity that was wiped out then?

Time travel Plus inter dimensional travel = one confused Faraway. perhaps... but since Supes remembers Sensor Girl and knew she was Jeckie, that means HE, not the pocket-Kal-El was the Legion's Kal through the v.3 10s and 20s (Sensor Girl saga, Mon's "back home in hell" story), and there would be very little opportunity for the Legion to go to the pocket universe and their acquantance with its Kal-El would have been very brief. So its unlikely they would have felt such devotion to someone they had little or no interaction with.

Thinking back to that Computo illusion... Jeckie sure was cruel to make Clark relive that. It was glossed over at the time, but it must've made quite an impact on young Clark Kent to witness a comrade's death.
I guess she chose it to distract Superman, but- sheesh- that's a blow to the gut.
I think that's why she's crying in later scenes... she knew *exactly* what she was putting Clark through.
Why this LSH death, though?
-- Ferro Lad's would've had *huge* impact, but perhaps wouldn't have had enough elements to it to keep a combined JLA/JSA team occupied. Plus, it'd be too much of a tip-off to the readers. AND, the Fatal Five were used elsewhere at around the same time.
-- Invisible Kid's was too low-key.
-- Did Superboy directly witness Chemical King's death? I don't remember.
The first time he saw a teammate die would have the most 'punch'. Good choice, Jeckie. Who must've studied the holos in depth, since she wasn't around for Computo's first attack.
Though I guess it's possible that she was on Earth at the time, isn't it?

But wasn't Clark there when Lightning Lad died, the first time, in Adventure #304? That would have been a few years before Computo killed Triplicate Girl's third body.

Actually... no.
He shows up for the funeral, but he wasn't actually there for the death itself.

OK. I thought he was. It's been awhile since I've read that story. My bad.

any chance they were trying to ( and succeeded in) reviving Kal-L? Starman, mentioned him during the "revivial" process and said how his new team were going to be mad at him........

that doesn't really fit Brin's comments to Hal, but it's not impossible.
Also, Brainy comments "West?" at the unexpected outcome - referring to a specific Flash - rather than "Flash" or even "one of the Flashes?" To me, it suggests an unexpected result, but one close to the intended target.

also, this whole op seemed less about bringing back Corpse X than tapping into the speed force to free someone there who'd gone beyon.

Have we already discussed JSA 7 whereupon kooky, sloppy joe-eating Star Boy talks with Superman about the 3 Legions and meeting the other Star Boys?! It's makes me sooo hope/wish the 3 Legions are Waid/Kitson, Post Zero-Hero, and Pre Zero-Hero teams! It's quite epilogue-ish to the JSA/JLA/Legion story...

What I didn't get was, if Wildfire's energy was Reddy's old body, why did Drake still need his containment suit? Either the anti-energy was harnessed by Reddy's android body, or the anti-energy would burn through it, hence the need for the familiar containment suit??? Strange twist they tried to go for, but it didn't work for me for that reason.

In retrospect, the whole thing read rather like over-enthusiastic fanfic to me. ![wink wink](/forums/images/graemlins/default_dark/wink.gif)

The big problem with the Wildfire/Red Tornado thing is that part of the appeal of Wildfire is his vulnerability to his containment suit being shredded/blown up, and the fact that he periodically has to get a new one. Now, I know Red Tornado traditionally gets blown up quite a bit, but still it seems to me awkward to think they have to put him back together rather than having him simply don a new "body".

I have wondered why we haven't seen androids in the Legion time. I am guessing because like Computp they usually turn bad. Making androids is probably illegal as is cloning probably. But I have wondered why Brainy hasn't made an android body for Wildfire. Maybe that's another Legion story featuring Brainy, T-Wolf, and Wildfire. In v4 they had those blue androids which seemed very...slave like.

Early Legion stories have tons of robots, but they become much rarer as the series develops, except for a few specific characters.

I kind of thought the containment suit was a recycled version of Red Tornado's old body.

Could it be that the Red Tornado body acts as just one of Wildfire's suits? He could still do the 'last ditch release power blast'... there just wouldn't be that dramatic sagging bit of cloth as a visual.
Maybe he sometimes wears the Tornado bodysuit, sometime he wears the more traditional uniform.
I would think that Reddy's body would have some obvious... practical advantages.
It seems to have worked out OK for Tornado and Kathy Sutton.
However, I wonder what's happened to Red Tornado's soul/spirit/sentience. Maybe it's evolved into an independent elemental state by the 31st century.

As some of the later intervening posts may reflect, I have less of a problem with Wildfire getting a more corporeal body than I do with him specifically using Red Tornado's body. It seems like a pretty blatant effort to tie a character to a whole new legacy--a legacy that won't be under the control of a LSH writer. I'll try not to get hung up on it though. After all, if I really wanted to be skeptical I would wonder why someone transformed into a whole different sort of existence would remain so fixated on the corporeal for so long, but I don't really want to fuss over that either.

You would like to think that they'd have invented something better to contain a being of anti-matter energy in in a thousands years than a thousand-year-old hollow android body.
The whole premise is weaker than any Silver Age logic.

I don't know about that. We still use plenty of thousand year-old pieces of technology: rakes, shovels, bows and arrows. Sure, there are more advanced versions of all of these, but the original versions are still in use from time to time.

Ah, I can see it now... During a big battle sequence, Wildfire is blown out of his containment suit (again). Fortunately someone has a Ziplock baggie handy, to keep his energy together until they can get back to headquarters!! ![lol lol](/forums/images/graemlins/default_dark/lol.gif)
