Sensor was somewhat annoying on her own rather than simply because she was a replacement Jeckie.

I didn't like Monstress from the start but I did like her in the few issues of Legion Lost that I managed to get ahold of. Maybe it was how Monstress was written that was bad rather than the character herself.

As for paying attention to readers I would guess that the presence or absense of a particular character outweighs the better qualities of the book. It would also depend on how big of an outcry there was. I wouldn't mind seeing Dawnstar myself, eventually, but I'm in no rush to add to the existing cast.

Starbucks Kid, thou needs to read more Steve Engleheart. As any fan of the most amazing writer in comics knows the ones he liked least usually became the fan faves.

But for all I know Waid is thinking "I hate Dawnstar but she is a fan fave how can i make her work to my liking?" and then i imagine an evil laugh...just cause that's what i imagine Waid does. wink

Admittedly Dawnstar is not a favorite of mine, but I have no problem with her returning at some point. Before adding even more characters, though, I would like to see more of the existing roster. After all, it's only been 6 issues, and we've barely seen some of the current members in action. Maybe in year 2 they can add more members...

For Legion fans, Levitz's development of Dream Girl after her surprise win of the leadership election stands as a paradigm of a creator being forced to develop a character they didn't necessarily care for, and then succeeding with wonderfully. I think as long as the creator is open-minded and willing to explore the possibilities of various characters, this isn't a problem.

How far could Dawnstar (or another) be re-imagined and still be considered to be Dawnstar? She would need wings (and have to be a "she", IMO) and the somewhat reserved/independent/prickly personality. I'm not sure about the native American origin. The bounty hunter history and the relationship with Wildfire could be abandoned. I'm thinking along the lines of what made Shikari NOT Dawnstar - it wasn't just the look, but the personality, for me.

Eryk good example with Levitz and Dream Girl. For all we know Waid will use some post Adventure members soon. At the rate this series moves it may take some time. I hope this is the case...that he is open minded and willing to explore possibilities of various characters. Barry had to fight for Brin Londo for crying outloud...it worries me. wink

I think if Dawnstar ever comes back (and I really hope she does) she should *definitely* retain her native-American heritage.

Sure, it may be a little stereotypical to have the native-American be the tracker of the team but that's a lot better than the alternative - having no native-American characters anywhere in the DC Universe.

For all the calls for more representation of black characters in the DCU (and I agree with them all - see my approval of the new Thom) you hear very little complaints about the lack of other minority race (in America - not the rest of the world) characters.

Since Dawnstar is probably DC's highest profile native-American hero I think this part of her character is an absolute MUST to stay the same.

This was one of my problems (among many - hated that character) with Shikari actually. As much as I am all for more 'alien' members on this team I don't like it when its at the expense of real-life minority race characters. After all, someone of a native-American background is much more likely to pick up a Legion comic and find a role-model to inspire them than a Kwai is.

I'm agree with Blacula.
And we need a asian member.
I don't know why Waid don't make Karate Kid origins from Japan or China.
But the euroamerican concept is silly.
All the white americans origin's in USA are from Europe. U.K., Italy, Ireland, Spain Or Not?

Sorry, one character isn't going to make the series a success. In fact, its doing quite well now. You already had your dawnstar re-incarnation (Shikari) and it really didn't do much for the last run.

And as for DC's highest profile Native American, Apache Chief has Dawnstar beat--no contest. NEVER underestimate the consumer awareness of the Superfriends cartoons!

It seems pretty clear from KK's appearances in the last few issues that Barry thinks he's at least part-Asian. Possibly "Euramerican" just isn't a racial label in the 30th.

Just to be random...

...I don't know if anybody else has ever read Marvel's New Mutants or X-Force (ew), but Dawnstar really reminds me of Dani Moonstar. A lot. Like, a lot, a lot. In both name and appearance, excepting the wings. (I'm not really familiar with her powers.)

Anyway, I just found it kinda interesting and... wanted to share. And now I have. So... yes. <.<

That is all.

Yeah, Dawnstar and Dani Moonstar do look a lot alike. Mainly because of the hair, I think, but also because artists use the same kind of features to make them look Native American.

I got into LSH and The New Mutants at about the same time, and I think the resemblance between the two characters was part of the reason, but now I can't remember which came first.

I'm almost positive that Dawnstar came first.

Dawnstar was the first. Her initial appearance was in Supeboy #226, April 1977. Dani didn't show up until 1982

I always thought they looked different. Dani's nose was flatter than Dawnstar's. Dawnstar also had a slimmer face and body.

I believe Dawnstar came first, though possibly not by much time.
