I really can't understand it. Despite Legion fans continual requests for Dawnstar's return, DC has apparently decided to keep her in comic-book limbo until hell freezes over. Come on, people! She's LONG overdue. Even in the last two Legion series, Legionnaires and Legion of Super-Heroes, there was a constant flow of letters asking for her, a flow that DC seems determined to ignore. Do the readers have to spell it out? W E W A N T D A W N S T A R !

Soon I hope. One of the gripes I have is the members are all early members. Waid is a great writer but gets kinda fanboy on me sometimes and this is good example. Can we have a member that was introduced sometime after I was born please??? And I am not that young. Wildfire, Dawny, Blok! I want them now.

Who was introduced after 1964? Yes I NEED to have Wildfire and Dawnstar also. I'd like to see what Waid and Kitson would do with them.
Whatta ya gonna do? Bleed on me?

When? Five years ago would be nice. Tomorrow would be desirable. By later this year would be at least possible. How about it, Mark and Barry? My sister has had a few cameo appearances since Zero Hour (click for examples) ... ~ In a newly made chapter (taking place between issues 4 and 5) of "Crisis on Infinite Earths" ~ In "Superman/Batman" 15 , as part of a Legion crew brought from the 31st Century under mind-wiping to defend the LSV trio that's controlling Clark and Bruce ~ In "Justice League Adventures" 28 ( page 1 , page 2 ) ... well, sort of, as Hawkgirl adopts a disguise, when working with the Legion in the 31st Century, that's nearly identical to Dawny's original outfit ~ On the cover of Mythology: The Art of Alex Ross, as well as in Legion group "shots" such as the new Ross cover for the re-released History of the DC UniverseThat's better than nothing, but with the potential for this character -- in powers, looks, and (inevitably adjusted) background -- it's not nearly enough.

Well, add me to the list of those wishing for the return of Dawnstar. I do miss her.

[joeboy] { What is this? I want to read it ... } The full title of this one-shot, published at the end of 1998 (cover date of February 1999), was "Legends of the DC Universe: Crisis on Infinite Earths." Subtitled: "The Untold Story." It took the same type of cover logo as the "Legends of the DC Universe" limited series, but was not part of that series. Its story used the "Crisis" cast as was present in that series' issue 4, telling a lengthy tale of an alternate Earth in peril that was resolved (in some ways) before the events of issue 5. I'm not sure why they wanted to revisit "Crisis" in this way, but it was a well-told story and beautifully drawn. (Written by Marv Wolfman with, here, other artists, George Perez not being available.) You can see its listing at Mile High Comics here (it's discounted at the moment), and view the striking cover (which features Dawny) here .

I have to confess that I don't recall anything close to continual requests for her in the preboot. Still, you know that Waid is currently focusing on the Adventure-era Legion and Dawnstar wasn't around at that time. Personally, I'd rather get the introductions of the present members out of the way before adding new characters that will have zero focus due to overcrowding. Also, I'm pretty sure Waid has no plans to add anyone until at least the second year.

I'd really like to see Wildfire and Dawnstar return, and I mean that ASAP. I'd rather let Waid hit his stride and tell his stories, but these two are so essetially Legion to me, and so tossed aside for the majority of the last fifteen years, that I want them now.
DnA did a great thing in bringing back Drake as (kinda) Drake, but they *really* dropped the ball with not bringing back Dawnstar.

I want Dawny back, too, both because of her look and powers, and because she's a First Nations' woman. So far, Starboy and Karate Kid are the only non-white caucasoid core members in the Legion, and that simply isn't representative of even the current make-up of the North American population, never mind the future when people of colour are expected to make up a much, much larger segment of the population.
Having said this, however, I do applaud Misters Kitson and Waid for deliberately changing the ethnicity of the two existing characters, because this is certainly a step in the right direction.
If the meek shall inherit inherit the Earth, then I at least want Baffin Island - and a property manager to work for me who is made of sterner stuff than I.

Yeah, I have a little problem with that as well if only this was supposed to be a "new" Legion that wasn't about reliving past stories. I can understand wanting to keep the founders the founders and I can even understand not wanting to introduce totally new Legionnaires yet (which I thought they really should've done from #1, but...), but even now they appear to be introducing the members in the same order of eras. Even if they introduce Wildfire or Dawnstar now and call them older members, it'll still feel like they came later. I would've preferred that Waid and Kitson mixed it up a bit between the Adventure gang, the Levitz additions and the postboot members.

Meh. I could take or leave Dawnstar. She had one of those non-existent personalities that comic creators always describe as "cold and aloof". And seriously, did her superpower ever actually work? Everytime a legionaire would go missing or they had to find a supervillain or something she would suddenly start babbling about "space warps" and other "dimensions" or "technically I wasn't tracking the right person" or "my powers don't work very good on earth." etc. etc.
Visually she was quite good except the massive stereotyping involved in her native american inspired costume. I've always thought that if they combined Shikari's interesting personality and half-decent powers with Dawnstar's aesthetic appeal they could have had a great character there.
Wildfire on the other hand should join the legion as soon as possible. He's a great character visually, power-wise and personality-wise and could be a good drawcard for new readers.

I agree re: Shikari's powers. Dawnstar should have both tracking and pathfinding abilities, so she can find those people the Legion needs to find as well as get the Legionnaires where they're going. And with the current team, I think making her more like Kari in terms of personality would make for more diversity. But her old personality made her interesting to me, and I don't think we need to fix that to make her work.

Waid has admitted in the past he's not a big fan of Wildfire and Dawnstar, nor of Blok, Tellus or Quislet or any post-Adventure character for that matter. I suspect Barry is less conservative, which is probably the main reason we have Brin Londo, who apparently isn't one of Waid's favorites either despite the fact he's technically an Adventure. Personally, I miss Wildfire, but if the creators (especially the writer) don't care for him, I'd rather they did NOT reintroduce him during their run, and instead stick to the characters they actually enjoy. Ditto for Dawnstar. We've all seen what happens to unwanted and unloved Legionnaires - they're either ignored, treated with disrespect or worse...much worse.

If a writer don't like the main characters (Like Dawnstar, Wildfire or Blok) of a large team like Legion. Why DC give the work to this writer? For now the 5 & 6 are good, but I hope in the issue 12, change the writer for one who love every character in The Legion.

You have a point there. I never liked...um...uh... this is tougher than I thought. We all have favorites but I believe that whether a character is liked is entirely up to the writer. That's one of the reasons I don't get X-books, I don't like most of the characters. However if I were to get a job writing one I'd really search for the qualities of those characters that I do like and work hard to magnify those traits in the stories so that I would like writing them.

I agree! I really couldn't care if Dawny came back, but I realize how popular she is with many readers (especially Greybird) so for their sake I hope she does make an appearance this time around. (Everyone should have a chance to see their fav again) Since the introduction of Shikari (whom I love) I have found Dawny to be redundant and not necessary to the Legion. Shakari really outshines her in personality and character and I would really like to see where she went after Legion/Titans special.

I never liked Dawnstar. I hope she's never seen again.
As for adding newer characters: Be patient. It's only issue #6 after all.

Fans may want Dawnstar, but they also want Bouncing Boy, Ferro Lad, Matter-Eataer Lad, Chamical King, the heroes of Lallor, the Wanderers, the Tornado Twins, Wildfire, Infectious Lass, Porcupine Pete, the Legion of Substitute Heroes, Reflecto, Tyroc, Blok, White Witch and do I really need to go? I will, if need be.

I predict all those heroes mentioned by MLLASH (plus Quislet - natch) are part of the angry horde terrorizing the Rimworlds. They're just as frustrated as some of our readers!

Everybody has their favorites. I would rather have some old characters than brand new ones. Especially since this team is way to Adventure era. Wildfire has the best case. He is not an adventure era character but IMO has become part of the Legion fabric. Ofcourse after his last origin they need to really think about his new origin. I just hope this doesn't turn into Waid's favorites from the Adventure era...and his new creations. ick.

Wow, something Jim and I agree on! Oh, and as far as this turning into "Waid's favorites." Guess what? Each time a comic book is written, it turns into the author's favorites. That's why Dawnstar / Wildfire were featured as much as they were back in the 80's. Writers' favorites.

While each writer, of course, has the choice to include (or ignore) certain characters, that doesn't mean he can do entirely as he pleases. Remember Monstress? Sensor? Ultimately he HAS TO pay some attention to those readers who purchase the title. It's ultimately a two-way street
