I am impressed with how the writing worked very hard to give us the worst ever 'first impression' of Chemical Kid, and then turned that around.
It's an interesting choice, from a writing standpoint, to start out with one of the characters 'in a hole,' and then dig them out.
Dragonwing, on the other hand, has said some pretty dark stuff, casually dropping comments like that she isn't a Legionnaire, so the code against killing doesn't apply to her.
Gravity Kid, on the other hand, is coming off as a little too perfect, and could very well be the mirror opposite of Chemical Kid, being all respectful and competent and focused on the outside, and have something else going on underneath... I don't want any of the kids to turn out to be bad guys or whatever ('cause that would just be a ripoff of what they are already doing in Avengers Academy), but having the 'obvious' targets of Chemical Kid and Dragonwing not be the ones with something sinister going on could shake up some assumptions.
Gravity Kid, the teacher's pet, having something going on, would be a bit of a shakeup.
Glorith already could have a 'dark destiny' going on, if Mysa's comments are to be believed.
And then there's Grava, who has suffered some sort of trauma or brain-injury or something, and isn't 100% who she was before.
Last time an Academy recruit suffered a traumatic injury, and had a bit of a personality change afterwards, she turned out to be a Manhunter robot assassin... Is the 'new' Comet Queen also a trojan horse?
