I think it was Jed and Berta who were killed during the Khund Wars but yes - keep them away from somewhere that another writer might just use them as canon-fodder please Paul!

*sigh*

The only place in my small town that sells comics (Hastings, not a comic shop) sold out before I could get this issue.

I'm not happy....

I am enjoying the Legion Academy stories. I think Lamprey and Power Boy are much more colorful and interesting than Earth Man (and Cosmic boy for that matter). I would like to see Lamprey, Power Boy, Nightwind and Crystal Kid all graduated into the Legion proper.

BTW, how does Sir Rokk get to choose who qualifies for Legion membership? I thought ALL Legionnaires get to vote. There have been much worse candidates who actually had more of a chance in the open auditions than Lamprey and Power Boy here. I think Lamp and PB would be much more valuable evacuating exploding planets and such than marching Mano back to his cell.

I was slightly disappointed with the Mordru episode, but I understand this was just a foreshadowing of what will be coming for the Black Witch (and Blok and the Legion). When this story is told, I hope Harlak and Glorith have a big part in it. Maybe the next Adventure saga after Legion Academy will Be Sorcerer's World?

The artwork again was outstanding throughout!!

I agree about Rokk not deciding who gets into the Legion.

Lamprey is water-based, too, something Garth and Ayla aren't.
Jed's current abilities make him much more versatile than Tinya, imo.

No Legion Academy graduate should go to guard duty, Takron-Galtos be darned!

the thing I loved about this issue was Lydda's stcicking it to Rokk with just about every line she had that was directed at him.

Outside of that, I agree...the graduates should get an actual shot at Legion membership...and not just Rokk saying no.

The backup seemed like fluffy filler...but maybe it's just me. Nothing really seemed to happen that couldn't have been taken care of in about 2 pages.

Active LMB character is still Beast Boy.

Strange issue....too much going on, but it felt like not much happened...but a lot did.

The blue flame is going to stir up all kinds of trouble before this is over. I hope we arent't disappointed by this incredible build up.

Lamprey and Power Boy not in the Legion...understandable, but disappointing. That doesn't mean that membership is out of the questions some day. Shouldn't Nightwind and Crystal Kid get some kind of test too? They appear to be in the same class.

Loved the dialogue between Night Girl and Cosmic Boy....best part of the issue.

Having actually read the issue now - I don't NECESSARILY hate the idea of Lamprey and Power Boy being posted to Takron-Galtos if they are there as a special powered unit and not just miscellaneous prison wardens...I guess we'll see how it pans out.

Kind of weird that they weren't given full info about the spaceport mission going into it - I get that they shouldn't have everything handed to them on a silver platter, but if that were actually a Legion mission that info would be readily available to them, no?

Kind of a shame that we haven't seen Nightwind, Shadow Lad or any of the others beyond the occasional cameo...I don't expect every character to be equally well developed, but they should at least get a line here and there...

Moving on to the freshman class:

I actually really like Chemical Kid after this issue! He is snotty and has a bit of an attitude problem, but his heart is definitely in the right place. I think he'd be a great Legionnaire.

Really NOT digging Glorith as plot device. Mysa herself has teetered on being a little plot devicey at times in the past, but I always felt there was a conscious effort made to explain that her power really did have limitations and such. She cast specific spells with specific effects. I don't really even get what Glorith actually *did* in this issue, just that she single-handedly saved the day. Would not like to see that become a pattern.

A shame we didn't get to see anything with Variable Lad - so far he's just a cool power gimmick with not much of a hook outside of his relationship to Gym'll. I hope his forms are always as monstrous as we have seen so far, it's an interesting look for a hero.

If I had to choose out of the new class, I would say Chemical Kid, Gravity Kid and Dragonwing would be my Legion picks (though now Star Boy's back, having GK as well could be problematic).

What happened to the other Shagrek between issues? Given that the bad guys were taken out so blithely, I don't think it would have made a difference to have him there so it's strange that he was ommitted.

Alchemical Girl has some pretty cool potential!

Still really enjoying the Academy stuff in general, it's a shame it will be finished so soon!

I am impressed with how the writing worked very hard to give us the worst ever 'first impression' of Chemical Kid, and then turned that around.

It's an interesting choice, from a writing standpoint, to start out with one of the characters 'in a hole,' and then dig them out.

Dragonwing, on the other hand, has said some pretty dark stuff, casually dropping comments like that she isn't a Legionnaire, so the code against killing doesn't apply to her.

Gravity Kid, on the other hand, is coming off as a little too perfect, and could very well be the mirror opposite of Chemical Kid, being all respectful and competent and focused on the outside, and have something else going on underneath... I don't want any of the kids to turn out to be bad guys or whatever ('cause that would just be a ripoff of what they are already doing in Avengers Academy), but having the 'obvious' targets of Chemical Kid and Dragonwing not be the ones with something sinister going on could shake up some assumptions.

Gravity Kid, the teacher's pet, having something going on, would be a bit of a shakeup.

Glorith already could have a 'dark destiny' going on, if Mysa's comments are to be believed.

And then there's Grava, who has suffered some sort of trauma or brain-injury or something, and isn't 100% who she was before.

Last time an Academy recruit suffered a traumatic injury, and had a bit of a personality change afterwards, she turned out to be a Manhunter robot assassin... Is the 'new' Comet Queen also a trojan horse?
