Issue #159 (January 2005) of Wizard magazine had quite a few Legion bits. Here's the ad found on the very first page right inside the cover -

Never doing Universo? I have a problem with that. The Legion's villains and supporting cast are as important as the members. I don't like the idea that they are being cast away so easily.
"Never read Legion before? Great, you are the core audience." I guess my hard earned money isn't good enough. Or am I being too sensitive to that statement?
"They're disposable?" Makes me want to buy the book. Nice sell, Mr. Levitz.

They're the core - we're the hardcore.
The legionnaires will have language differences? That could be interesting...
Thanks for posting these pages, Gary!

2448, eh? Guess I'll have to work doubles on the holidays this year.

I just want to know if the last Legion, fading away into nothingness will ever return. There were too many plot lines that were abandoned.
I'm quite tired of the characters I've grown to know & love get erased from continuity. Yeah, great, fresh stories, new ideas, whatever.
Waid is undoing the Crisis creating "Hypertime", and I feel this new Legion is just a Hypertime facsimile. All I know is I got very tired of Waid's run on Flash when every storyarc was either: "Is the Flash gonna Die?" or "Who's the Flash?" Swear to God every issue was Flash skirting on the edge of the "Speed Force" being called to it.
WHATEVER!!!
Anyway, maybe it will kick butt. I'll buy it anyway because I loved the characters. Even if I don't count.

Wow, I've actually been pretty upbeat about the relaunch up to this point, but these articles make the new series sound more obnoxious than anything else. Then again, I'm not a big Wizard fan, so it's not a huge surprise that what they print to try to attract new readers is a turn-off to me.
Bleh. I wonder if someone who wasn't a Legion fan already would find these descriptions and quotes appealing.

I don't think they got that quote right. Wasn't it more like, "I told them to fire me if they ever heard me use the word Darkseid"?
I've never been a big Wizard reader either but it's good to see they're giving the new Legion a little bit of a face time in their magazine. I guess this means they'll get a few of my dollars this month just so I can show a bit of support. Fair's fair, if they'll support us then I guess I can support them. Now they just need a reason to fill another couple of pages with a Legion article for the Feb. issue too.

Jim Lee? Grant Morrison? Jeph Loeb? Some of the biggest name in comics...not as old school as Waid...why didn't we relaunch with them? With Morrison or Loeb writing and Lee drawing the book is guaranteed to be a top ten or top three even.
Ok sorry....too late gotta hope for the best with this latest Legion.

Funny, I thought the same thing a decade ago, only those characters had been around for over 35 years,

I'm sure Mark's used both, and maybe other variations, at various times while promoting the book. That's likely just the version he gave the Wizard guy. The main point hasn't changed, though.

Because there's a difference between someone wanting to do something "someday" and someone having something workable right now. Morrison's dance card is full with his various upcoming projects. Loeb has Supes/Bats, and that baby does not exactly come out like clockwork. And while I like Jim Lee's art a lot, I've seen a few of his Legion costume designs, and I don't think they work. Plus, I think he's pretty busy these days too.

I would have loved to see Morrison on the Legion, but I'd have to pass on Loeb. I'm not all that excited about his work. I read the Supergirl storyline and now I've been sucked into the next one because of the LSV, but I don't expect to be a regular reader of this book. And Jim Lee on writing? I'm not really sure how that would work out, but I can think of several artists I like better.

Thanks for posting these Gary. I never look at Wizard normally and would have missed these. Now I have an excuse to go to the comic shop today.

And I know that it's a puff piece, but why not give Waid the byline and be done with it?

That's probably going to be change in the second issue. I'm not going to post a spoiler but believe me they're definitely not happy with what the kids are up to in number one.

Waid is either in serious promotion mode trying to draw in new readers to the title or he's in full blown denial. How can he claim to be throwing away everything but the concept but keep most of the characters from the adventure era and roll back their names to the "Lad/Lass" motif? Of the Legionnaires we've seen so far, none of them are new. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he's keeping the old characters, but from the articles you could never tell that this is the same old Legion with a facelift.

It's like Aquaman & the orange shirt. They announced a BOLD NEW DIRECTION for Aquaman. But they put him back in the orange shirt with it. Y'know, the one that's mocked incessantly. Outside of a brief initial bump, sales... haven't improved, shall we say.

Someone might note that being endorsed by - especially reluctantly or falsely - is not the same as being on the payroll of the UP.
