Best cover yet for the Academy series.

I'll always have a sentimental preference for NG's Eighties look (straight hair, cute veil-like cape) but since Jimenez draws so nice the "retro" look has kind of grown on me.

I liked her 80's look, too.
This one is okay except for the key hole and eye placement on the owl. One or the other might be okay, but the two, especially by Borges, is rather obscene, imo.
Am I the only one who thinks it's creepy that there are parts of Condo at the library?
And, Chuck's comment about giving the Legion what it needs was interesting. Does that mean they might be sending some freshman to the front?
A singin' and a dancin' along the way.

Not a fan of the keyhole thing either, Candle. But better that than boob windshields-- er, windows.

I did really like Night Girl's 80's look, but I love the beehive and full bodysuit so much more, there's just something really elegant about it. It's the same reason my favourite Shadow Lass costume is the full bodysuit with high collared cape. Not EVERY woman in comics needs to have her boobs all hangin' out everywhere....
While I like the art STYLE in this preview enough, that cutout on Lydda's costume just looks silly and gross, especially with the eyeholes of the owl cut out as well.

I had to go back and look again, I missed all the scandalous stuff! Dragonwing does have a more rounded face, and a less pale tone, it seems. I do like her better with the thinner, eyebrow-less pallor. Although, with her commentary about killing and stuff, I'm less enamored of the idea of the 'goth chick' being typecast as dark minded. I guess I watch too much NCIS, 'cause now I associate 'goth chick' with disturbingly cheerful. I'm less bothered by Night Girl's boob window or the placement of the eyes on her hooters, than her strange posture. Who stands like that? Chuck looks a little off in that scene as well, less like a heavyset man, and more like a melted wax figure of a man. Gravity Kid's gonna have to work on that 'my pants disappear when I use my powers' problem he's got going on.

I think the Dragonwing thing is just due to the different artist, though I have no doubt that she'll end up looking a lot more like a normal redhead if she becomes a long-term character....same as Chemical Kid will most likely lose his Asian features; a lot of comic book artists have really bad sameface problem unfortunately....
I didn't notice the posture so much first time around but I went back and had a look, and she kind of looks like she's trying to drink without spilling any on herself - which makes me think she's already had more than a few kono juices, and a Rokk dunn knoowww what'ee's missin' out on*hic* rant is just around the corner, lol

The lead story was fun and everything we've come to expect from the Academy series.
The backup story was a surprise. I'll admit that I was not Moy's biggest fan during his run on the Legion. I was not expecting to get all nostalgic and sappy feeling over his portrayal of XS, but that's exactly what happened. He's welcome to come back for guest appearances and backup stories like this anytime IMO.
We finally get the story on Rokk and Lydda's break up and her status with the Legion proper. Jenni's reaction to Lydda's offer made me proud of her. Levitz captured her personality and spirit.
RE: The letters page. A letter from Neil Ahlquist printed in an actual comic book letters page. It's been too long, baby. Talk about getting all nostalgic and sappy feeling...

I'm glad they showed Lu's softer side in that last panel.

Yeah, seeing Lu in that light was nice. She'd come off pretty strident over the last few issues.
I'll admit, XS is a character from a time I wasn't reading the book, but it doesn't seem so much like 'unheroic' as 'doing something important that we don't understand yet.' This mosaic thing is clearly somehow supposed to be important, and revealing information that's intended to be vital, in some way. After multiple seasons of Heroes playing with that same sort of artistic foreshadowing crap (which ended up rarely useful, exact as a framing device), I'm a little sick of the pattern-building / creative foreshadowing myself, but it remains a valid storytelling device, and XS, with her connection to the Speed Force and her fair share of time-travel hijinks, seems like a sensible choice to be assembling the pieces to the puzzle.
The 'assembling it without super-speed' thing seems like a bit of a writer cop-out to explain why she's off-stage as long as she is, but the idea seems okay. Dream Girl would, in theory, be better suited for pulling information like this out of prophecy, or Sensor or Mysa from the mystical legends of the past, but XS is certainly viable in the role, and it at least creates the impression that she's somehow at least tangentially involved in the events going on, even if she hasn't appeared in the main LoSH title yet...

He seems to have missed the point with the new female member of Taurus. He called her Mystique and talked about her mental powers, but she's not Mystique and has no mental powers. Speaking of the wrong powers, Dragonwing is supposed to have flame breath, not shoot flames from her hands.

He's one of those fans who was a prolific writer to letters pages back in the day. His letters were frequently published -- much like T.M. Maple and the Wu sisters.

Did I miss something?? i always thought XS' father was black, wasn't he? she always looked black to me too, even if her skin has of course a lighter tone than her dad's. i guess we should ask mark waid! does he have a social network account? btw, i wanted to add that what i hated the most about the XS short story we're talking about is that it feels to me like totally story-driven, just like the rest of levitz' current run on vol.6, which i also can't stand. it doesn't look to me like any of the stories levitz currently writes have a point, they just look like they show a series of unrelated events, like a poor video game or something. i like stories that have a meaning, that draw a moral, instead.

I used to think her father was black but got convinced otherwise or visa versa. Being from India would make him look, skin colorwise, like he was from Africa, too. Maybe, by 3011 Africa and India will be mostly one people? (I couldn't find much on Africa or India in the World Book that Levitz wrote. However there was a ton on the Legion Academy! Interesting! For those who think the Glorith's magic might be too all encompassing, this issue might have helped make her more limited and that what happened last issue was due to Mysa's intervention. The colorist gave her a more purple/lavendar coloring, too. On Lydda, she said that Rokk sent her to the academy to get her out of the way, and I'm sure she was quite the distraction, but he might have put her there for safety, too. She DID have a tendency to put herself at unreasonable risk.
