Like I said, just ticks me off. I checked before Saturday then forced an update on my Comcast DVR and checked early (1:00 AM) Saturday morning. And not one of the shows listed was the pilot. The only one that stood a chance was the first which, like I said, didn't have a description beyond "Heroes marathon". Since I didn't feel like recording 21 hours worth of shows just to catch one not shown I missed it. Doesn't really matter as I'll pick up the DVD set anyway.
But it shows why I've had to cancel two of my season passes lately. Both Sopranos and The Riches tape every frickin' broadcast even though I set the DVR to only record new showings. Both shows continue to replay the same one but tagged as new and not repeat. Almost as if HBO and FX are purposely trying to rig DVRs. As much as I love the machine it can be a pain in the @$$ when the networks don't cooperate.

I had had an image of Nathan flying Peter into space to save New York, but I didn't commit it to writing, so it doesn't count! I'm glad Nathan was a hero at the end, and I'm glad they kept us in suspense until the last moment.
I had thought before that Hiro would end up as the samurai dude, and had forgotten about it completely until tonight. Now, we find out just how long his father has been alive.
So Mr. Deveaux has/had some sort of dreamtime power, which explains Peter's past visions. Thank goodness that got explained. It was bothering me. Now, we should wonder if he and Simone are really dead, or sharing Brainiac 5's consciousness with Nura, kind of like a condo.
Live, Parkman, live!
I'm kind of glad Nathan's dead. Not because I didn't like him -- Pasdar was the often the highlight of the show. I'm pleased because it ruins all of Linderman's and Angela's plans. Not only does New York survive, but their hand-picked Manchurian candidate is gone, too. Can't wait to see Mama P. next season. She angry, my guess.
Let's revisit how the course of the future changed. What REALLY made the difference? How was "5 Years Gone" prevented? As we saw, Hiro kills Sylar, but ports out before the end, so if Peter had exploded, Hiro wouldn't have known. Not sure how the other cast members would have survived the bang, unless Hiro ported back and rescued them a split-second before the explosion. There are other differences, too, with Ando being in Tokyo and not in New York. Given these inconsistencies between 5YG and tonight's ep, it's hard to say really how that future could have come about.
Back to the question, though. I think the turning point was Hiro telling Nathan he would become a villain. If Nathan knew anything of Hiro's powers, he would know that Hiro could have seen the future. This would be the key difference in the timelines, and why Nathan makes a different choice. Another open question, though, is how Sylar survived the sword and the bomb WITHOUT Claire's powers in the "5YG" future. My guess is that the REALLY bad guy saved him somehow, as we saw at the end of the episode with the manhole cover and the missing body.
In the end, I think you have to invoke some "turning point in history" argument, that both futures were out there, waiting to happen, and that the heroes needed to see the bad one so they would do the right things to stop it. You wonder if Linderman knew that all along. That the way to get the good future was to convince all the chess pieces (even Angela) of the inevitability of the bad future, so they would all do the heroic thing. Maybe it wasn't even Linderman who knew the whole truth, but Deveaux? If so, it's a neat twist on the Watchmen scenario. You don't actually have to cause doomsday to save the world, you have to convince the heroes it will happen, so they stop it. Kring may have one-upped Alan Moore here, and that's pretty cool.
...but you don't have a moment where you're sitting there staring at a table full of twenty-five characters with little name signs that say, "Hi, my superpower is confusing you!"

there is one thing still dangling - Molly's "boogeyman" which she is afraid to find him or her....since I suspect that the boogeyman is the one who "steal" Sylar's body...hmmm... Micah and Molly...becoming fast and probably more lasting friends...that's my prediction. Sylar will the big bad evil guy who will be on the killing spree, killing DL, Jessica/Nikki, Micah... I am wondering about Nathan's wife and Mother too...what are their powers if hidden? hate to wait through the summer to start watching the Volume 2... saw the nice previews of Silver Surfer/F. 4, Transformers...July 4th here I come!

Nathan isn't necessarily dead, you know... we didn't technically see him explode...
I am kinda curious about why Peter didn't just fly himself out of the city. We've been calling him Duplicate Boy, but perhaps he's really Ultra Boy.

That's just what I was thinking. He can have let go of Peter once they were up high enough, and let him explode while falling. Peter would have survived the fall as well...

I was wondering about that, too. I don't believe we've ever seen Peter use more than one power at a time. But the explanation that came most readily to mind was that it probably took everything Peter had to suppress the radiation buildup as long as he did. As for Nathan surviving, wouldn't the radiation exposure do him in, if not the actual explosion?

There a lot of problems with that whole "exploding man" scene.
Even if you suppose that Peter couldn't fly/teleport himself to safety...
Couldn't they have just knocked Peter out?
Couldn't they have killed him with the old "glass in the base of the spine" trick, and then removed it later?

I think it's safe to say that Peter is still alive. It might be a while before we see him ( I love Peter), but we'll see him again. Nathan may well have been able to survive, as Doc One suggested, simply because he can fly so fast. I expect both brothers may show up as amnesiacs (Yeah, I know. It's cliché.). I really liked this episode and, with one or two exceptions, the whole season. Do we have a date for the season premiere?
The only character in all of literature who has been described as "badnass" while using the phrase "vile miscreant."

Well, I guess we could submit these questions to the writers via CBR's "Behind the Eclipse" article, which will have a final installment for the season next week, but... I'm guessing they'll say there's no guarantee that those alternatives would definitely have worked. And if you're talking about millions of lives hanging in the balance, there's no room for error.

Yeah, but it's not as though the plan they used was so surefire that there wasn't plenty of room for error. What if Nathan dies of radiation poisoning before Peter explodes, and he falls on the city? What if couldn't get him far enough away? There'd be massive fallout from an explosion like that, which would still hit the city even if the explosion didn't.

I was very satisfied with the ending and the season as a whole. and nice seeding of plot points for the next season. I can hardly wait for the DVD to get the commentaries, webcomics and any other goodies that will be in it. don't suppose suppose these guys will move into a New York Brownstone.

I wrote this massive post, and it seems to have vanished into the ether. Just as well, I was being a know-it-all.
EDE, there actually isn't fallout from an exploding man in the stratosphere. Fallout is 1) leftover bits of atom bomb and 2) irradiated ground debris. So, Peter goes boom in the upper atmosphere, no fallout. Should have been an EMP big enough to black out the East Coast. However, we already saw with Ted that his power was either all heat or light (EMP).
I was a little disappointed there wasn't more of slugfest between Peter and Sylar, but I guess Peter really is a lover, not a fighter. I was psyched to see Nikki whallop her some Sylar with that parking meter! That rocked. And Matt was the good cop, shooting the bad guy and then taking the bullets.
I had a few queries to keep my brain going until next season:
1) Who inherits Linderman's fortune and empire? Does it self-destruct, go into some sort of trust contingency plan? Does Angela get her hands on it? Or Nikki?
2) Who gets Nathan's congressional seat? Tradition says it's his wife Heidi. Does Angela allow that? Does she start manipulating Heidi? Does Heidi start learning about her husband the dead super-hero? Does the election fraud get revealed?
3) Just what happened to Papa Petrelli? Did he oppose the plan for his boys, so Angela and Linderman offed him? Could he be the super-duper bad guy that Molly spoke of?
4) What happens to Molly? Linderman and the Primatech leadership are dead. So are her parents. She's just the potentially most valuable person on the planet.
5) Who was Claude protecting all those years ago? Was it the super-duper bad guy?
6) Had Nathan decided to play hero back at his victory speech? He spoke of "healing a sick world." Not the sort of fascist speech Linderman would want. Sounds like something more up Peter's alley.
Finally, I wanted to say how great it was to see Richard Roundtree again, and I hope we see more of him next year. How delightful to hear him say that love, not strength, will save the world. We could stand to hear that more often.

Yeah, but we saw in the 5YL episode that saving the cheerleader wasn't sufficient to save the world. Anything that changed from that timeline must've been the result of Hiro's knowledge of that future. Even though it *did* seem like Claire had a lot more to do with Nathan's decision than Hiro did.

hmmm she was alive in the 5YL wasn't she. Seems to me they muddled that point. Ultimately, was her only function to give Peter healing abilities? That would be sad.
I agree with most, that final battle was much too quick. I was just getting into it when poof.
I also thought Hiro's bit came off a bit too comical. I would have liked to have seen a bit of future Hiro show up after all that training. But to tip the see-saw back towards the positive, I love Ando's role in the final resolution.

The scene between Ando and Hiro in the Nakamura offices was fantastic. It was sentimental but not treacly, and it showed how far Hiro (and Ando) have come together. I didn't mind Hiro's attack on Sylar. I think each of the characters (with the exception of Peter) used his/her power as effectively as possible to take on a truly dangerous opponent. Hiro's effort left nothing to be ashamed of. I personally don't want to see him turn into future Hiro for a long time, if ever.

One of the problems with the fight scene is that it was done in very much a "one hero attacks Sylar at a time" fashion. Basically, Peter and Sylar would face off, Peter would go down, then someone else would attack, then it was back to Peter versus Sylar. It just seemed kind of artificial.

While I thought the final battle was just a little too staged so that everyone could get in their licks against Syler (Nicki's bit seemed the most forced since there was really reason for her to join in), I can't help but admit the fanboy in me was ecstatic! Yeah, the fight seemed a bit too ... straight forward given all the build up, but I admit I wasn't really expecting Nathan to come through in the end.

I didn't think the battle was too bad... admittedly, there could have been more between Peter and Sylar, with their cool telekinetic powers and stuff, but it was nice that everyone had their chance to get some licks in.

The finale battle didn't compare to Peter and Hiro giving their powers a workout 5YL. Maybe that's on purpose, but it left me a little disappointed. Sylar's apparent NOT death was also a little anticlimactic.
I sure hope Lost doesn't go out with a bit of a whimper like this one did. Last week's episode was so good--why can't anyone in Hollywood justify the buildup anymore? It's all foreplay, no payoff. Great first season, I'll probably watch some reruns over the summer, but the producers made such a big deal about NOT "Lost-ing" us, then seem to have done nothing but set up for next year with the finale. I am looking forward to Samurai Hiro, though.
I don't believe for a second that Peter or Nathan are dead. If Nathan dropped him and sped away, theoretically Peter could survive both the explosion and the fall. How much of him has to be left to regenerate?
The only consistent feature of all of your dissatisfying relationships is you.
Don't judge me!
