I loved the first episode, too. In fact, I'm re-watching it as we speak. The character diversity in terms of background, ethnicity/citizenship, and temperment really grabbed me. Conversely, the fact that most of the heroes-to-be are so ordinary appealed to me a lot, too (in particular, the geeky, idealistic Japanese officer-worker, Hiro, blew me way, and is more than enough reason alone for continuing to watch the series, in my opinion).
If the meek shall inherit inherit the Earth, then I at least want Baffin Island - and a property manager to work for me who is made of sterner stuff than I.

I want to like it and will stick with it a while, but my wife and I were a little bored. Actually I even dozed off a few minutes. The two brothers kind of annoyed me. It's bound to take an upturn when Greg Grunberg debuts. I just like that guy.

Ah, that must have been during when I dozed off. Now I see how it all falls into place. Thanks for the added perspective BB.

Just watched it on DVR.
I liked it.
I'm glad that at least one person enjoys their new abilities.
It's such a cliche that the person who gets super powers is all "woe is me" angst ...

I enjoyed it a lot! Nice-looking production!
What worked for me best is that they are believable people. I know the Japanese guy was kind of a stereotype, but he was really cool!
Looks like there's a nice uber-story, as well. If it stays this good, I'm onboard for the duration!
Still "Lardy" to my friends!

According to Comics Continuum , "Heroes"'s debut was a major ratings success! The key here will be whether it can sustain a good portion of that audience, so we can be assured of much more to come! <crosses fingers>

My favorites were the Japanese teleporter guy-- what with teleportation being my all-time favorite power-- and chick with the apparently evil (?) super mirror-reflection.
I'm wondering if it isn't mirror-chick's son who has the actual powers there.

wasn't it a little stereotypical that the Indian guy who's trying to finish his father's research came to NYC, and ended up driving a cab?

The previews for next looked far more intriguing than the first episode. I enjoy the premise of this show, although I thought it was a bit slow.
Things I didn't see coming: Adrian Pasdar's character having the ability to fly and "evil guy" being the super cheerleader's father.
Question: Are we to understand that super cheerleader is adopted? Did she not say to her mother that it was time for her to know about her real parents or something like that?

Naw, those are normally from one of the "Stans." I missed the beginning of the show (twice). Who was that guy in the cab that freaked out the cabbie? Is that the "evil guy" to whom Owl Lad referred?

Yeah, it was the "evil guy" who is also apparently the adoptive father of Indestructo-Cheerleader.

Which brings us back to the garbage disposal.
Okay, "indestructable," but not too bright. You can mess up a good garbage disposal doing that.

LOVED this show! Any tv show that can work in a Kitty Pryde refrence has me hooked for life.
Studio 60 also ROCKS! As far as Must See TV goes, it's looking like Monday is the new Thursday.
I'm excited about the uber-story, too, but wonder if a tv show can retain viewers over the long haul with a serialized story? Lost seems to be doing okay, but...
I don't think Research Boy driving a cab is stereotypical at all. His father did it becasue he had to get a fairly anonymous hide-in-plain sight job while on his hero hunt. The son drove a cab for a similar reason, but also because his father did. Note, the idea occured to him under pressure while in his pop's apartment for the first time.
I doubt Mirror Mirror Lady's son is the one with powers, since the same trick is already in use with Fly Boy's brother.
I don't think Indestructo-Girl is actually adopted. What I got out of that exchange is that she assumes she is because she's all, like, funky weird, and stuff. Coming right after the mother-daughter conversation, I assume the mother took it as the daughter feeling typical teen-agnst alienation, rather than as a real question.
My only problem with Hero Stalker Man being Indestructo-Girl's father is that it all takes on a real X2 riff, but we'll see where it goes. It certainly caught me by surprise.

And presumably evil guy has teleportation powers or something because one minute he is trying to kill Indian Guy in New York and the next minute he is back home in Texas.

As I watched this first episode evolve I kept gettiong a "Dark Angel" vibe, where Jessica Alba et al were genetically created. If evil guy had a hand in this, it would explain the adopted cheerleader since he'd have access to the "hatchlings"

Hiro's powers aside, they were certainly taking some liberties with the timeframe.
Evil guy did say he was on his way home when he got in Suresh's cab. And if it's daytime here, wouldn't it be night (or at least predawn) in Japan, which would make watching the solar eclipse difficult for Hiro.
And I think making the brilliant geneticist a cab driver, besides being the flexible job Portfolio Boy mentions, is a comment on race in America. I know I've read (and seen on other shows -- I remember an African immigrant on "ER" way back) that a large portion of immigrants are highly educated people (doctors, college professors, etc.) who for various economic/immigration/racist reasons wind up doing menial jobs when they arrive here.
I thought a couple moments were too conveniently "six degrees" (like when Hiro's co-worker was watching reflection lady), but overall I found the show thoroughly entertaining and will be watching next week for sure.

Actually this happened several times, there was one instance when flying older bro was playing in the background on someone's tv (some political campaign ad). Since it's the same netweork that brought us Lost, I'm guessing they're using the same ploy used there, where if you look in the background during one characters scene, you're likely to see something connected to another.

I wonder if Hiro's friend was the one that called her "BITCH"?
In any case, I loved the dialogue between Hiro and his friend. It was priceless! I laughed aloud!
It's cool that Hiro can bend time and space though I'm a little confused about how his powers work.
I thought that the cheaper plot gimmicks involved 2 of the 'powers' knowing the same girl! Not to mention the coincedence of the Indian cabbie guy picking up the guy who thought he could fly (love the twist that it was his bro instead, though!).
Still "Lardy" to my friends!

Is the SuperCheerleader the same girl who was the son of the white coach in Remember the Titans?
I enjoyed it, but wasn't blown away. I know it was a set up show, but there seemed to be a lot of set up and very little payoff for a pilot. I'll give it a couple of weeks.
Another aside--a lot of what went on seemed to have a very Lost-y vibe to it--people from different places and backgrounds in the process of being brought together due to ominous circumstances. I think Lost will cast a long shadow this season, even more than last.
The only consistent feature of all of your dissatisfying relationships is you.
Don't judge me!

It's definitely in a kind of post-Lost genre.
I enjoyed it, but wasn't wowed by it.
I found the depiction of Hiro's "time bending" powers rather odd. All he seems to have done thus far is speed up/slows down clocks. Maybe if he speeds up/slows down other things, I'll be impressed.

Well, he did teleport to NYC (and, possibly, the girl's bathroom )! Did you miss that part?
