Just saw where "Mars needs moms" didn't do so good. I have a sneaking feeling that it will do better on DVD. But, it seemed like it lost a lot of that BB magic when they changed the animation to fit motion capture rather than maintain BB's style to add to things. Or... I it could just be a bad economy and people are looking to actually do things with their kids rather than hunker down in theaters with them.
Who knows.
Still, sad to see it didn't do so well. I'll be getting it for sam as soon as I can.

It's hard to translate a children's picture book into a full-length movie.
The book is a delightful little number that would have maybe filled a half-hour TV special. But they had to add a whole bunch of stuff to it to pad it out, and it sounds like they lost the essence of the story.
I haven't seen the movie, so I can't say for sure, but after seeing the last couple trailers, I pulled out my copy of the book to see if I was forgetting something.
The nature of the source material just doesn't lend itself to full-length feature animation. I just hope they don't try it with "Zen Shorts." Or "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus."

Plus, BB's art is a great draw. He manages to exaggerate facial expressions just perfectly with his particular brand of art. A lot gets lost in translation it seems.

[While Binkley's getting existential, Portnoy's about to drop a live beehive on his head]
BINKLEY: What do you think, Portnoy?
PORTNOY: 'Bout what?
BINKLEY: Do you think deep down, we're all just basically evil?
[Portnoy changes his mind]
PORTNOY: Nah.
BINKLEY: I'm relieved. Really.

I sought truth.. and found friendship and love, which even your lies can never take the memory of from me. (B5 to Time Trapper LSH 50)

I actually invoked a "Bloom County" reference last year in the Evil Lash storyline. The reference is to one of Oliver Wendell Jones' nutty experiments going awry and Milo (I think) asking "Wasn't this a Lucy episode?"
The only character in all of literature who has been described as "badnass" while using the phrase "vile miscreant."

I liked the one were Binkly waxed poetic on how the little things seemed to take on much more importance in the face of looming doom.
