[more tangent] Blues guitarist Sue Foley is writing a book about woman guitar players. I hope she, or somebody involved, mentions this syndrome;because I suspect it happens about 358 times a minute in showbiz. [/more tangent]

We should ALL stab them.

Guys, if you can't find a way to make foreplay fun and romantic with your wives, don't be surprised when we're tired or have a headache or need to do the dishes.

That obnoxious stuff is for grade school.
Adult males should try to be more sensitive and expressive!

My dear Candle, sometimes, after a particularly tough week when both wife and hubby are tired, its not a bad thing to get a little passion by proxy going. Besides, its like rodeo sex...tickem off and hang on for 8 seconds.

Besides, romantic foreplay, each time, get dull and boring after about 8 years. Variety is the spice of life. Ticked off sex, angry sex, sexy sex (no, thats not a typo), funny sex, disastrously bad sex...its all good as long as both are having fun.

We happily go along with you when you play dress up to feel better about yourself, when you fish for compliments, we are happy to give them and are much better to you than you are yourself. the things you tend to worry about, little crows feet, "hideous elephant feet" (I showed my wife that show by the way, she loves it)...those are things we don't care about yet ya'll seem to obsess over.

The fun part about the fighting and teasing is the make up sex, or the angry sex, or the "I'm so gonna make you pay" sex.

There's more than one way to skin a cat, and more than one way to have a little fun.

wink

I was going to say this before but I got a little embarrassed over the last two posts.
But, I'm over it now!

Men, most women do NOT, repeat NOT cook using 'receipts'.
Baking, yes. Cooking, no.

Especially not after the first or second time.

We use what we have, usually and a dash of this and a scoop of that.

I TRY to remember and repeat, especially is my husband likes something, but repeating it exactly, with the same results?
Not often.

sorry guys

Candle, I didn't mean to embarrass you. I'm told I'm a little to straight up sometimes.

As to recipes, they don't have to be exact. Just don't go trying to get me to eat turkeyburgers when I'm geared up for Hamburger.

My wife makes a phillipino dish that i love. But, for some strange reason, she keeps tinkering with it. Don't do dat. We are men. Big, loud, brutish. Fix that mastodon steak the way it was meant to be. I don't eat it with broccoli seasoning. wink

I'm comfortable with my gruntness, I'm not afraid to try something new, spiced differently and I'm not afraid to say I prefer something another way.

If you're going to use "we," know for whom you speak. Most "men" I know would never look down on a gift. Plus, in my neighborhood, they're smart enough to know that next spice might be arsenic.

You want a hamburger, the meats in the fridge. Don't burn yourself.

Gotta' say: at chez_cleome, we both cook. And we both vary the recipes. Generally experimentation happens because money is tight and sometimes you run out of a crucial ingredient.

Granted, time and experience dictate that some variations will never work. I'd rather have cornflakes for dinner than waste time trying to make a proper pot of spaghetti sauce if I've run out of garlic. There is no suitable substitute for garlic in spaghetti sauce. Don't even try.

But lots of other recipes like soups, salads, and marinades, are very forgiving of having certain ingredients adjusted and shuffled. So no problem there.

that would work except I ain't allowed in the kitchen. The wife has really big knives, red hair, and a temper ta match, lol.

However, when she specifically asks me what I want, and then gets ticked off when I ask what do we have (how'my gonna know what to ask for unless I know?) and then tell her exactly whut I want, then thats whut my mouth gets geared up for.

Me Tarzan, her Jane. Jane was always the smart one, Tarzan just did the heavy lifting and screaming when Jane missed her vine.

Traditional romantic gestures/giving?

Overrated.

If you have money burning a hole in your pocket, forget the diamond tennis bracelet. I'd rather have a dishwasher. (You can slap a satin ribbon on the dishwasher, just like they do in the ads-- if that makes you feel better.)

Yeah, no kidding.

I swear, the whole holiday ad thing where men should be psychics with bottomless pockets if they expect women to not kill them is seriously pissing me off. I don't know what's worse: the idea that men are all chintzy morons or the idea that women are all just one diamond solitaire ring away from committing spousal homicide.

Blecch. It seems especially onerous in the current economic climate, too.

I suppose the ads that pressure Mommy into buying the kids whatever they want are just as bad. But I don't have to take those so personally, since I've got no kids.

'Every kiss begins with Kay's?'

That's kinda pricey... And is it really a great idea to equate romance with financial gain?

Isn't that, yanno, illegal in most states?

Thank you, Cle. I've said that for years. It isn't the "big gesture" on some prefab holiday, though we do that to a small degree. Instead, it should be the times when we give up something we've been looking for to take the wife to something she wants to see, or we pick up some little something we know she will like that she hasn't even mentioned just because we love them.

I might do the big gestures if I was a rich person, but I'm not. Instead, I try to do the things that actually show i think about her, care about her, listen to her and love her.

I mean, what says I love you more, a box of chocolates, or the act of your husband making sure your tires are okay to drive on, that your cell phone is charged when you are going to be driving in bad weather?

My dad bought my mom a new lawn mower for her birthday one year. She was pissed. She got diamonds for Christmas.

Jerry, so you're saying the family had some communication issues?

My Mom owns a couple of (small) diamonds. I dis-remember where they're from, though. Anyway it's her birthstone so I figure that's excuse enough.

Yup. And one of these radio ads I heard yesterday totally makes fun of this idea: Haw haw on you stupid men! Your shallow, emotionally unstable wife/girlfriend doesn't care about that crap! Spend spend spend!

Y'know... whatever product they're pushing could be fantastic, and yet I can't fight the feeling that everyone involved in its creation and marketing should end up on the Unemployment line ASAP, after hearing that kind of retrograde, manipulative [bleep].

Still, they keep doing it, so it must work on a lot of people. shake

Well, unfortunatey, even in a "well" educated country like this, there are still far far far too many people willing to be led around like sheep rather than think for themselves.

You are not a horrible provider and/or a horrible person just because I'm applying to get us some kind of very modest public assistance.

This also applies when I suggest that I get up an hour before you in the morning to fix us breakfast and/or pack up last night's leftovers for your lunch at work-- instead of us going out. It's no big thing. I'm stuck at home all day and can always go take a nap in the afternoon.

So relax.
