One thing to think about with Jins decision is that he may indeed love his daughter, but he has never seen her in person. He struggled through years to get back to Sun, and I can understand his refusal to leave her...even if I don't necessarily agree.
Glas to see Sayid meet a heroic end, he was always a favorite from the beginning.
I think Frank is gone. He got nailed really good with the door when the water finally broke through in earnest. I'll miss him, as he was a good character.
Great episode.

It's weird, though...even though I felt Jin and Sun's deaths pretty strongly, it's hard to know how to take the deaths at this time when there are other versions of them alive and well in the sideways timeline. I guess the way to take it is that the versions we've been following since the beginning are gone. But I know before it's over we'll see sideways Jin, Sun and Sayid (and Charlie, Libby, Boone, probably Juliet, etc.) again. There's some doubt about what they'll all actually do, yes, but right now it's kinda "Goodbye Jin, Sun & Sayid...hello Jin, Sun & Sayid!"
Meanwhile, I believe we've yet to see sideways versions of Shannon, Eko, Juliet and Ana-Lucia among former principal cast members. I think I read somewhere a while ago that Maggie Grace was definitely finally signed to appear as Shannon. I would be shocked if Elizabeth Mitchell doesn't return as Juliet. I thought I'd read somewhere before the season ever began about Eko and Ana-Lucia returning. Anyone else I'm overlooking?

We haven't seen flash-sideways Frank. It would be interesting to know if he actually flew the plane in that timeline.

Hm? No I guess we didn't. I guess I was thrown off by Michael's recent on-island ghostly appearance.

In this year's opening episode, the original guy (the Heroes one) is heard over 815's PA welcoming them to Los Angeles and thanking them, so unless Frank was the co-pilot he still missed the plane.

Y'know, I'd actually really like it if Nikki and Paolo showed up in the sideways timeline before it's over! I'm not saying they were all that great or anything, but I also think fans never really gave them a chance, either. The concept was sound--bring out previously unseen characters from the group of survivors--but the execution could sure have been better, I admit. I think their farewell episode "Expose" was actually pretty great, though. I don't see any harm at all in them showing up for at least a brief scene. (probably not gonna happen and too late if it didn't)

I'm pretty sure the producers have confirmed that they won't be appearing.
I also liked the concept of Nikki and Paulo, if not the execution.

Have you seen confirmation (either way) of the other characters I mentioned, Edie? (or has anyone else seen confirmation if not Edie?)

I'm fairly certain Shannon will be appearing, though whether off-island or on, I don't know.
Not sure about Eko and Ana-Lucia.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I read a blurb about the producers 'closing a deal' with Maggie Grace. I could SWEAR Eko was mentioned before the season started as definite, possibly Ana-Lucia as well. Ana-Lucia's appearance as a ghost last season seemed to make that very likely. Seems like running into Sawyer at the police station would have been natural. With Elizabeth Mitchell still working for ABC on V, Juliet would seem to be a natural, as well, especially given her dying ramblings that would seem to come from the sideways reality.
I really, REALLY enjoyed both Eko and Ana-Lucia and hope they appear.

Maggie Grace is supposed to have a small role in the finale night. I think Sayid runs into her or something. Photos have shown the actor that played Walt showing up on set as well.

EDE: Except that the pre-island encounter between Bram and Miles, in which Bram tells Miles he's choosing the wrong side by working for Widmore, suggests that at least Ilana's group doesn't believe Widmore is on Jacob's side. Right, I remember that. But Widmmore definitely seems to be doing what Jacob would have wanted done. Perhaps Jacob (the Ilana/Bram group) doesn't want Widmore involved because he's not "pure" enough (having violated various rules, which is how Ben forced him off the island in the first place) but Widmore still believes in Jacob's aims. Or, very possibly, Widmore wants to exploit the island's unique properties for his own profit (something Jacob would disapprove of) but "Locke" would have to be eliminated/contained in order for him to be able to do that - and he knows that Jacob's way is the only way to do so.

Jacob has removed a number of candidates from his list in the watchtower, and not all of them are dead (Miles.)
Widmore may have Jacob's goal in mind, but that doesn't mean he can obtain it. I do think he was trying to keep the Losties alive by imprisioning them in the cages on Hydra. Whether Sawyer believed him when he mentioned it was for their own good, that's not something Widmore can control. But his actions have led to a similar solution. I'm sure there's a certain amount of pride and self interest involved tho. The same reasons he's likely no longer a candidate.
Bram and Illana may have been working for Jacob's more immediate goal- find a candidate for him. So they would see Widmore's role as problematic. In trying to recruit Miles, they were likely looking to save his candidacy.
Just spouting off.

Originally posted by rouge: I still think the cave is MiB's and the Lighthouse is Jacob's, and MiB isn't aware Kate is still a Candidate. This could play out in a few ways:
1) MiB finds a way to kill/removes Jack, Hugo and Sawyer, thinking if he wipes them at once he wins only to find Kate is the final Candidate and then becomes the new Jacob.
2) MiB tries to kill Kate directly, violating the rules and leading to his undoing. MiB has to be acting on different intel. Why would he save Claire from catching the sub? Sure he knows she's not a candidate, but if he blew up all the others, would he need Claire for any purpose?

I don't think MiB prevented her from getting on the Sub. It was her loyalty to him that kept her on the dock providing covering fire while the others abandoned him to jump in the sub. She also obviously couldn't hear Sawyer calling to her. I don't think he cared one wit if she survived or not.

I don't think it matters to him at all...or more importantly, she doesn't matter. If she needed to be dead, he would have gotten her on the sub somehow.

4 questions 1. Whats the light 2. Why did the mother kill everyone she met 3. Was the smoke monster ..evil, or what now MIB is because of rebirth. this is the first episode where i was interested and yet confused, i dont know if i missed something or what but i just dont get the light, why she killed the mother and now it seems like the reason MIB couldnt leave was because jacob was like his mother and doesnt want to be alone. And another question What exactly was Jacobs adoptive mother anyway? I am so confused

Well, the answer to 2) seems to be that she was trying to stop anybody else rom having access to the light.
What confused me is the fact that she stopped the MiB before he built the Frozen Donkey Wheel. So... who built it?

Presumably, MIB/Smoke Monster built it up later.
Definitely they are playing up the good/evil light/darkness angle between Jacob and his brother. But did you notice that it was Jacob who resorted to anger and violence twice (three times if you want to count sending MIB into the light.
