Okay, so we've had a new thread for each season, so I don't see any reason to break with tradition, eh? In just three days, we'll see one of the finest series ever to grace a television screen race toward the finish line. As excited as I am, I'm sad because we may never see a sci-fi show of this quality ever again. Spoilers, anyone? Find here the apparent first four minutes of Tuesday's premeire. While more than half of it is a replay of the final moments of the finale, the rest shows what happens immediately after everything went white. And apparently...Click Here For A Spoilermission accomplished?

If this is the legit opening (and I think it is), this clip completely spoils the apparent direction (at least to start) of the new season. So click on the link at your own peril if you want to be surprised Tuesday.

I have a general theory of the direction the final season might take. Putting a spoiler alert below, just in case my theory comes true. Read at your own peril. Click Here For A SpoilerIt will be like the movie "Sliding Doors" with two alternate realities going simultaneously, one where the plane lands safely in LA, and the other with Sun/Lapidus/Ben as we left them. The basic premise the series has followed is that "whatever must happen, will happen" as it did with Charlie's death despite Desmond's multiple attempts to change fate. This means that eventually, these two parallel storylines will merge into one. That merge will lead us to the final showdown that gets Jacob's army, our island castaways, into direct conflict with the Man in Black (Fake Locke) and bring vindication and victory to Jacob.

(I'm just getting this quick post in now before the risk of spoilers precludes me from visiting this thread again between now and when the final episode has aired.) First of all - I LOVE LOVE LOVE Lost! I don't think I have ever gotten into a show as much as I have this one. I wish it had 10 more seasons in it so I could continue spending time with these poor, doomed, beautiful people on their fantastic island... but since it had to end eventually I'm glad it's doing so on the show-runnners' terms. Second of all - Can I just say how suprememly jealous I am of all you Americanos who get to watch this final season on time and as its creators intended? Here in Australia we won't get it until weeks (maybe even months) after its US airdate and even then it's going to be at 11.30 at night, full of adverts in the wrong places and cluttered with annoying advertising graphics! I HATE Australian TV! So to all my fellow Losers (my pet-name for Lost fans) out there - have a great time watching this once-in-a-lifetime show and I look forward to reading all your comments once it's all over.

Blacula, if you have good internet protection, go to surfthechannel.com. You might be able to find the eps there a day or so after they air here in the US. Hope that helps.

Great opening. I have tons to say (like always ) but don't have the time to get into it now. My wife was a little frustrated by a few new characters and no clear answers but that just made me laugh. After five seasons now is not the time to lose patience--answers are coming and its time to sit back and enjoy the ride. I personally loved it. We're so close to knowing so much and yet the suspense has never, ever been higher. The writers of this show are just brillant.

Fantastic episode. We get some actual information about the smoke monster we see what was in the guitar case (though we don't yet know exactly what Jacob's message was). The "alternate reality" is a nice twist, but I suspect that ultimately it will prove to still lead the gang to the island, because "time has a way of course-correcting."
The Japanese guy and his interpreter annoy me. Is there any reason the creators couldn't just ditch the interpreter and make the guy in charge an English speaker? Is the fact that he's Japanese going to end up being important? It better be, otherwise this was just a nusiance.

I must say my head is still spinning after those two hours! Lots of juicy tidbits, and I'm at a loss as to how they're gonna somehow reconcile the two realities...maybe the show will have two endings? In any case if Chaim's right and the "made it to L.A.X." group ends up going back to the island, they're gonna need either a submarine or some gillyweed! (gratuitous Harry Potter reference)

I also feel that the two timelines will merge at some point. Great episode, first one i watched on tv since season 1 (I usually wait for the DVD releases). Provided my work schedule doesn't screw things up, I'll be sticking with the show each week.
On EP Daily yesterday there were interviews with Hurley and Ben. While they didn't give much away, they did say this....(paraphased of course) Hurley - They told us to get in shape because this season is going to be a rollercoaster ride Ben - I don't know how it ends yet, but I suspect it will be sad. I don't think it will make a lot of fans happy, but it would be fitting.

I thought it was cool, by the way, that we had Doc Arzt and Frogurt among the L.A./Oceanic guest stars! (And Cindy again, finally, on the island!)

rickshaw1 & Dev Em - Thanks for the tips guys. But I don't think Hulu works in Australia and even worse - I only have a dial-up internet connection. Fortunately it looks like Lost will actually start airing in a week or two over here so I might not have to wait as long for the series as I thought.

My pet theory I'm nursing at the moment (some spoilers):
. . . . . . I think the alternate reality / parrallel world (whatever you want to call it) will be used to explain how the Losties went from 1977 back to the present; in other words, they stopped into that other reality first. Why make it so confusing? I think ultimately the important sequence will between Jack & Locke: somehow Locke provides Jack with the means to fight the nemesis, *or* something happens that allows the real Locke to return to life (which will ultimately lead to the Nemesis not posing as Locke anymore). Or something like that. Obviously, any such theory is all speculation.

Spoilers! (Tho' at this point, that should be a given) . . . . . . I was all set to believe landing in LAX was going to be a "what if" scenario, showing us how life would have been worse for the Losties than landing on the island. Then Miles does his thing, and Juliet tells us time can be reset.
I liked seeing our Dharma shark again, if only for a brief moment.
Well we got our explanation of what the smoke monster is. And what was up with the ash. And what was in the temple. And who Bram was working for. So plenty of answers.
What is Sayid's fate? Since he first mentioned he was with the Republican Guard, I've been fascinated with him. There was no way the writers were going to make him a stereotypical Iraqi solider/antagonist. And they didn't. Now tho' I'm even more interested in where his story is going.
Sawyer and Jack at odds again. More like the first season than the fifth tho', it's a general dislike than a disagreement of opinions. And Kate is in the middle of it all.
And Sun. Why wasn't she in 1977? What will she do surrounded by Others, other Others, UnLocke, Richard, Ilana....
Just spouting off.

Did anyone see the Last Supper photos that were released before the season premier? There were three of them, using our cast to depict Jesus and company, with poses and props to hint at this season's story.

Jeepers! At this point I'm wondering how they're going to cover everything this season!
I love Rousseau-ifaction of Claire, and the reSawyer-fication of Sawyer!
I really have no idea what's going on with the alt-timeline, but it sure is interesting!

So far, I don't find the alt timeline nearly as interesting as the primary one. It sure seems they're coming kinda slowly out of the gate there, especially with so few episodes left. Other than showing us "what if?", it's hard to see the hook it has to bring us to the end game. We saw Ethan this episode but no indication he's any more than he appears to be in this version of reality. Really, without the alternate timeline factor, this episode's "sideways" flash fit in with every other Kate-as-fugitive flashback we've seen in tone and predictability.
In the main timeline it's nice to see the further exploration of the sickness that took Rousseau's crew. I would've liked to have seen the Others be more straight with Jack (and us) about its nature. Apparently, Claire's already fallen victim to it; I guess we'll see more about that next episode.
Overall, I didn't find the episode all that strong. It didn't suck or anything--it just didn't feel all that consequential with the series' clock ticking. I know there's room for this kinda thing with there still being around 15 hours left, but I don't feel like it really raised the tension or added all that much to the stew.

Well, one of the interesting things about the alt-timeline is the idea that the Losties would've ended up meeting and interacting even if the plane hadn't crashed.
There's also been a few divergences from the original timeline that have been interesting, such as Desmond's being on the plane and Shannon's not being on it. Plus, there seems to be various hints that the island experiences are affecting the alt-timeline Losties, such as Claire calling out Aaron's name, and even the way in which Kate acts towards Claire.
I kind of suspect that the timelines are going to interact in some way, so that the alt-timeline Losties will somehow end up saving the day, but I don't know exactly how that will work.

Well, episode three didn't really do much for me. Not a whole lot was really learned, and I think they should really be answering at least a couple questions per episode at this point. Some minor things were advanced...Sayid and the pool, where is Claire, and Sawyer wrapped up his Juliet arc...but nothing major was really revealed.
The alt time-line better have a great payoff for them to spend so much time on it in a season where they are supposed to be wrapping up things instead of introducing a hole new reality to explore.
Active LMB character is still Beast Boy.

Wow! I'm really surprised there's been absolutely NO comments on yesterday's episode to this point! Used to be, comments would appear while the show was still in progress!?!?! Has it LOST its lustre in its final season?!?!?
Anyhoo, I thought last night's episode had some of last week's slowness problems but was otherwise a big improvement. The stuff with Sawyer and Flocke was pretty interesting and gave the sense of things heading somewhere. Especially as we see the numbers pop up again and we learn just who the "candidates" are and what role they may play. The bad guy may have a sympathetic side, and he's found an ally in Sawyer.
The Locke sideways universe stuff was similar in tone to the Kate stuff from last week, but we got more easter Eggs and a better sense that things may at least be developing more with Ben's appearance. I especially liked seeing Helen again and how this Locke achieved some happiness with her. The reference to Locke's dad had me wondering whether things went better between Locke and Cooper in this version, which begs the question of how Locke became crippled here.
So a better episode than last week and anxiety increasing as we begin to countdown to the final episodes...
