Funny SNL bit. Food for thought on the Palin phenom. What would public perception have been if Michelle Obama had shown up at the Democratic convention with five children, one an infant with Downs Syndrome, and another a pregnant unwed teenager?

The SNL skit was decent, but this election overall has been *incredibly* disappointing when it comes to comedy.
Honestly, the complete hesistation that everyone seems to have about making fun of Obama just bewilders me. And jokes about McCain's age were boring six months ago.
Fey's Palin at least has the potential to turn things around in this regard.

Eryk, the comedians are either supporting Obama or fear being accused of racism even if they carefully avoid racial caricatures in lampooning Obama.
BTW, I plan to vote for McKinney/Clemente [Green].

On MadTV, it was funny how the Obama impersonator was saying that we need change...
we need hope.
Change.
Hope.
Chope.
What we need is chope.

That had to be one of the funniest things i have seen by SNL in years, course i quit watching a long time ago when they quit being funny.
But, I think it was funny not for the intended skewering of Palin, but because as it went on more and more it skewered Hagary. The hate and desperation that you pick up from her on her interviews really shown through in that skit. And since SNL is pretty much lib, i think it really backfired a lot.
Now, before anyone says anything, no i am not trying to start a war here. This is the one place i am not willing to go at it with anyone. I just thought it was funny, Hagary was lampooned much more effectively than Pale-on was.
First time I have found SNL funny in a very long time.

Some equal skewering going on there, Palin, Clinton and the media. One of their better efforts in a long time, someone from NBC/SNL should send a thank you note to McCain for his choice of running mate. I don't think any of the other options had near as much comedy potential as a small-town former beauty queen/rifle toting gramdma to be.

Obama's theme is "Change". Marvel's new TV campaign? "Embrace Change" . Conclusion? Barack Obama isn't a closet Muslim. He's a DIRTY SKRULL!

A curious political move from Governor Palin today. Supposedly, she's quitting the Governor's office to concentrate on a presidential run in '12? Does that even make any sense?!?!

The only thing that would make any sense is if she decides to run for Congress in order to increase her profile in national politics. Considering her name recognition, I don't see the necessity. Maybe she's got a Mark Sanford-level scandal percolating, and she's making a pre-emptive strike?!?!

It might make sense in a "You won't have Nixon to kick around any more" kind of way, if she withdraws from the spotlight for the immediate future, only to re-emerge once the campaign starts in earnest.

Ain\'t It Cool News (admittedly not a political site) has an interesting speculative theory about why she's quitting that makes sense. Could Sarah's departure mean she's capitalizing on her ten minutes of fame for monetary, not political, gain? Is she destined to be the next Fox News icon?!?!

The comparision between Palin and Nixon is interesting, though there's one important distinction: Nixon, as I recall, gave his speech after he had been defeated in the run for president.
Palin's announcement reminds me more of Ross Perot's decision to bow out of the 1992 presidential campaign. Perot changed his mind a few weeks later, but his reputation had already been damaged. If Palin intends to kickstart her own presidential run by quitting, then it doesn't sound as if she learned anything from Perot. (Either that or her supporters are more gullible than Perot's supporters were.)
From her rambling speech, though, it's hard to pinpoint any reason for her decision. If Palin's learned anything in politics, it sounds like she's been basing her rhetorical skills on those of George W. Bush.

While the tone of the article was kinda over-the-top, it would be a pretty brilliant career move for her. She'd get more pay, and more conservative exposure and credibility as a media pundit / think tank talking head than she'd ever get in an elected position.
