This is a book by William Gibson that I'm reading now. It's the story of a woman who is a "coolhunter" for ad agencies - she just instinctively knows what is cool, but she herself suffers terrible allergies to brand names (especially Tommy Hilfiger). More to it than that - intrigue, adventure, people trying to kill her - the usual Gibson stuff. Lots of fun, and some interesting descriptions of how people behave on message boards too!

(I'm a total music geek so I don't know what you're all talking about in the music threads.)

Also, I did get some Mercedes Lackey (The Fire Rose) and Laurell Hamilton (A Caress of Twilight) at the library, they're next on the list. Thanks, Princess Cru, for the recos.

I like it when people live happily ever after... that is, unless they are a SHAMELESS HUSSY like you-know-who!

Alright you! Do I have to follow you around into every thread and try to convince you she's not a hussy? She was...ah...um...she was just trying to get us home. Yeah, that's the ticket! I'm sure anyone of you would have done the same.

There was an incredibly shameless hussy in that book, but she got her comeuppance. The creep.

And they never had cake, they were always going to high-priced coffee shops and eating Indian food because they were so cool. Uber-cool, global cool.

I think cake and ice cream are cool, especially the ice cream of course, but what do I know?

How about in comic books?

In comic books, they go off panel. Or it's just a dream, a rather vague dream with a lot of conversation.

In Pattern Recognition, there was sex but it was sort of an afterthought. I guess they didn't want to get their cool clothes rumpled or even take them off.

There was an interesting example of how to take a girl and turn her into a Japanese sex goddess using Photoshop. It seemed like a good trick. You could probably use it to turn someone into a shameless hussy, as well.

I actually mentioned to my doctor that lately, I'm much more tuned into patterns. Like, some random pattern on the floor becomes a cartoon face, or I can pick up on the patterns in freecell very easily. He said as I get older, my brain is essentially getting lazier. Basically, I'm filling it up with junk and it's starting to get sloppy, so it looks to make quick connections.

Great, as my old body starts to wear out, my brain decides to bunk off for a smoke and a drink or two.

Yay old age.

That’s an interesting insight, thanks for sharing Rick. Kinda explains why, say, grandma and grandpa think the way they do…

Yeah, it's kinda depressing actually. I like music, but notice that even though I like a lot of new stuff, I default to the older. I play a lot of card games (no money) to try and stay as active and sharp as possible, but then it really comes out in them. I don't mind the body aging. I've led a physically hard life from an early age, but the mind.... that's another matter.

I feel ya, Rick. My mind is also my prize, and... it would be great if that stayed sharp as long as possible. Easier to accept the body aging than the mind aging.
